Cobra is not taking any shit whatsoever, are they? Fuck, Bludd and Bazooka already taken out of commission? Moscow disintegrated? Christ on a cracker. I've got to wonder exactly why Storm Shadow challenged Snake Eyes now--maybe to get him away from the main action? And who killed Major Bludd, and why? It wasn't a clean hit, so I'm not thinking Storm Shadow. Firefly, maybe, but I think there'd be a lot of goo splattered over the National Mall instead of a bloody corpse at the Lincoln Memorial if it were his handiwork. But, again, who in Cobra would want him dead? Destro? Baroness?

Everyone looks badass as fuck. I saw Duke, Scarlett, Spirit Iron-Knife, Doc, Major Bludd, Bazooka, Storm Shadow, Snake Eyes, Flint Cobra Commander, Firefly, Stalker, Roadblock, Vipers (the unarmored variety), and a couple of guys I think were Airborne and Slipstream. (If it was them, emphasis on the past tense. I can't imagine they survived that blast, and I'd wager some others bought it, too.) [Edit: definitely ground crew, not Airborne and Slipstream, though I suspect an unseen Joe pilot must've perished in that Skystriker that we briefly saw taxiing.]

This seems sort of like Superman Returns, a loose sequel to the cartoon and Marvel comic, but not specifically tied to either. More cartoon than comic, especially with Doc being alive, but I don't remember if Cobra Island even existed in the cartoon or not.

I think the first five minutes surpasses the body count of every movie I can think of except for Star Wars, Return of the Jedi, Independence Day, Titan AE, The Transformers: The Movie, and a couple others I know I'm not remembering, all of which (except ID4) involve at least one planet (or planet-sized battle station) being destroyed.

Why, I find it no more than just a typical attempt to make a beloved childhood icon more "mature" by adding necessary bloodshed.
