uh, y'know, the sounds that sound good together... sometimes... and sometimes sounds like the disgusting "squish squish" sound Slicker's mom makes whenever she walks

so, i watched casino royale in its entirety for the first time the other day and was surprised to see chris cornell was the artist on the theme, 'you know my name', and a freakin' awesome song it was, too...

i went on a downloading spree. i already had 'the world is not enough' by garbage for a long time (but mainly because i was really into garbage, not because of the bond theme) so i got a bunch more themes:
  • you know my name
  • view to a kill (classic)
  • thunderball (um... not sure what to make of this one yet...)
  • live and let die (which i'm sure i have on another computer, and never before considered a bond theme so much as a wings song...)
    goldeneye
  • license to kill (pretty good, really. i mean, they get a bit dated, but this one holds up)
  • tomorrow never dies (sexy sexy sheryl crow voiceguuuuuuuuuuuh)
  • another way to die (the song from QoS, a movie which was so forgettable i completely forgot about the song... it's actually really a cool bond theme)
so, i defer to our resident bond aficionado... calling messrs. rollo tomassi, ro11o tomassi, ro!!o tomassi and whatever others there may be, which themes are worthy of collecting and which ones aren't?

Despite never seeing a Bond movie still, I can add Carly Simon: "Nobody Does It Better" (another I don't even think of as a Bond theme)

Louis Armstrong's "We Have All the Time in the World" isn't bad.

You might also like Madonna's "Die Another Day," if you're a glutton for punishment and like aging Italian prostitutes who pretend to sing to techno. (She's about as sad a case as Michael Jackson, but at least she still records, even if everything from the past ten years or so sucks balls.)

i actually have that song also, but haven't listened to it in forever. it's on my ipod but i skip it every time. why do i even have it? and the fact that i forgot to mention it speaks volumes, obviously.

I've actually got the "Best of Bond... James Bond" CD. :) The older version, which doesn't have "You Know My Name" and "Die Another Day." Of course, being a good little Soundgarden fan, I've got Cornell's song on Carry On (which also has a cool cover of "Billie Jean"), and I couldn't care less about missing "Die Another Day."

apparently, though, they've never actually released the version of 'you know my name' from the movie's opening credits. it's got more brass fanfare than the version i DL'd. there are two versions that were released, called the 'rock mix' and the 'pop mix'. i don't think i've heard the pop version, but the rock version just has the brass replaced with guitar. i would like to get the brass version, it's just that much more james bond-y.
