Pinky and the Brain

most tv sucks these days, but there are some shining examples of good writing, acting, camera work, etc... we call those Deadwood and Arrested Development. Family Guy sucks ass, though...

Pinky and the Brain

Post by anarky »

This may be one of the finest achievements ever produced by man.

I call for a constitutional amendment to honor this work of art and require its being played every morning in every school in the country. And to proactively issue a pardon to Spielberg when the massive brainwashing wears off the American people, and he and Michael Bay are sentenced to death for crimes against humanity for Transformers.

I used to watch this and Animaniacs during their initial run and have caught a few episodes lately (on Jetix, which I think is Toon Disney, but I actually don't know). Most of the human characters bug the shit out of me, but it's held up really well. It's always good to watch shows from childhood that are still funny and notice jokes you obviously wouldn't have as a four-year-old.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

I actually didn't consider the fact that you (and Double_G?) would actually have been kids when this aired. I wasn't sure if it actually appealed to kids then, as everyone I knew was watching it, but were college age or older.

"Are you pondering what I'm pondering, Pinky?"
"I think so, Brain, but this time you put the trousers on the chimp!"

P&TB (and Animaniacs and Tiny Toon Adventures as well) hit a perfect balance with stupid humor, smart humor, and totally random pop culture references. I actually think they got the mix better than Family Guy. The only other show I can think of that is in the same vein, even though it's a totally different type of show, would be Arrested Development.

Freakazoid was pretty hilarious, too, but it was a little more "out there." Doesn't mean I didn't piss my pants laughing for about 18 minutes of every episode, though. (Henry Kissinger communicating with Air Traffic Control is still one of the funniest moments in TV history.)

Oddly, I've found recently that, though they're still pretty funny, Ren & Stimpy and Rocko's Modern Life haven't held up nearly as well.

They used to show Freakazoid before school for a few months when I was in sixth grade, I think (in reruns). A lot of that was really funny, too.

I haven't seen Ren & Stimpy or Rocko since they were originally on (or in reruns a few years later, but it's been quite a while). I'd like to see them again, even if they are now shitty.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

"Next time the unwiedly atomic weight of gold will NOT stand in our way"

Fucking classic show- I liked the one where they did the "format change" BS, that was a real classic. I'd watch this show whenever I got the chance (and whenever FOX wasn't moving the whole goddamned schedule around every fucking week)

I ALWAYS thought Ren and Stimpy sucks moose cocks except for a few select bits, that over-the-top shit reminds me of the trying too hard "weird/zany" folks you met from time to time

Eeek the cat was pretty fucking funny at times, as was Terrible Thunderlizards (that stupid soap opera that was ALWAYS on idiot-folk TV's in the background where the whole deal was "I wish I could help, but I'm drowning in this tar pit")
Guess you had to be there eh??

the one where they added larry?

"i'm larry!"

i never got into P&tB as much as animaniacs. loved animaniacs. i have the first two season box sets, but i can't find the one episode i want to see so much - they were on jeopardy (i think it was called gyp-parody or something) and they kept yelling "good answer! good answer!" like they were on family feud, to the chagrin of the host. classic.

and i NEED freakazoid on DVD. seriously. need. when the fuck are they going to put that out???

Pinky and the Brain were fine as part of the Animaniacs, but I couldn't watch them for a half hour. Nark.

vyn - was that the one where Brain was dressed up in the giant suit (John Brain)? I had that one on a video compilation of Pinky and the Brain stuff from when they were on Animaniacs. I loved that shit.

I gotta go watch that.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

Vyn, total guess, but I'd think Freakazoid would be next as far as the Spielberg toons go. I'm hoping they jump back to Tiny Toons after that.

"That was kinda a jolt, Freak."

P&TB was better on Animaniacs, but it was the best part of Animaniacs. BTW, Rogue II, it's "narf," not "nark."

I don't recall watching the Pinky and the Brain half-hour TV show, but I do remember watching them on Animaniacs when I was a kid. But I did watch reruns later on when I was about thirteen and I was able to appreciate a lot of the jokes more due to the "above kid's heads" level writing.

Freakazoid! - A Follow-Up On Freakazoid! DVD Rumors

Planned for Mid-2008 Release Along With Tiny Toons
Posted by David Lambert
11/10/2007

This past week we gossiped about Freakazoid! supposedly being planned for DVD release in 2008. We posted that info the same day we passed along word from Ron "Keeper" O'Dell's long-running WB Animation fansite that Tiny Toon Adventures is coming to DVD.

Later that same day, Keeper updated his site to note that Freakazoid! - Season 1 is planned to release on the same Mid-2008 date as Tiny Toon Adventures - Volume 1. However, whereas TTA is a 4-disc set, Freakazoid! will have the first season, which is only 13 episodes (so probably 2 DVDs). Keeper speculates that this is to keep prices down.

Warner still hasn't confirmed or announced these titles, but stay tuned and we'll keep you posted on further updates! Thanks to "Keeper" himself for alerting us to his update!
Life is short. STUNT IT!
