Re: What are you reading right now?
I've got about 80 pages to go in The Road, so I don't want to venture in the spoiler thread just yet. Let me say this however: books in which people have to contemplate killing their kid(s) suck. Always. Regardless of well the scenery is described. If this book ends without resolution like that stupid fucking No Country movie, I'm swearing off McCarthy. Life's too short for filling one's mind with depressing horseshit like that.

I honestly had no clue about the letters in Ringo Starr rearranging to spell DOUCHE until I heard your blurb about the deadline on the local radio station, DOUCHE. Fuck you're a knob.

Re: What are you reading right now?
Finally finished A Cather In The Rye.
Originally I said:
The more I read it the less I liked it. It started out just fine, but as it progressed I began to hate Holden Caufield.
He's a 16-year-old version of JT with ADHD. The little bastard hates everything and everyone.
Next up I have 2 books I'm going to work on.
The Road, based on the recommendations of you jerks.
And Heroes: Saving Charlie, which is in paperback now.

Now that I'm done - a total 180.So far I like it. I figured I'd feel it was overhyped crap.

Re: What are you reading right now?
I read Night by Elie Weisel. Very short book, but no less powerful for its size. It was not a great book. It was horrible, but in the way works like Schindler's List, The Pianist, Maus, Life Is Beautiful, or The Diary of Anne Frank are horrible. They should be required reading (or viewing), but somehow I can't bring myself to use positive words to describe them. It was well-written and impossible to put down, and I'm glad Diabolical's recommendation moved it to the top of my reading list, or it might've been another two years before I got to it.

Finished Heroes: Saving Charlie.
I wish I could've saved myself from reading that book. It was like the bastard love child of EU and fan fiction with a little teen novel thrown in.
Apparently Hiro has met the love of his life twice - in modern Texas and ancient Japan. Who will he fall in love with this season?
Next, I'll either read Animal Farm, The Lost World, Killing Pablo, or SW: Labyrinth of Evil.

Re: What are you reading right now?
I've read two of those (and Animal Farm is high on my "to read" list). Labyrinth of Evil is much better than The Lost World. (Unless you're talking about the Doyle novel.) TLW is the worst Crichton novel I ever read, and it's painfully obvious he wrote it to make money. It has no relation to the movie of the same name. In fact, I think the reason I like that movie and no one else seems to is because I read the book and anything is better in comparison. At least the science in the film is consistent with the first film, even where they'd since learned it was wrong. Scientific bits that were MAJOR plot points in the first novel are cast aside. (It's a spoiler, but a minor one, but T-Rex no longer is dependent on motion to see its prey, and Malcolm makes a comment about someone believing that being mistaken, never mind that that's exactly how it worked in the previous novel.) I wouldn't consider this to be a spoiler, since it's in the first couple of pages, but Ian Malcolm isn't dead. The only time it's addressed is when someone at a lecture asks him, and he says that reports of his death were exaggerated. (He might even comment on it being a quote from Mark Twain.) Never mind that I'm pretty certain we got explicit confirmation he was dead in the first book, and I'm talking severed bits and organs being tossed about, not simply someone saying that they thought he was dead.
Don't want to speak ill of the dead, but the book reeked.

Re: What are you reading right now?
I'm now reading Deception Point by Dan Brown. I'm only about 100 pages in and it's okay. It definitely hasn't kept me riveted like Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons though. I still don't see how it can turn out with a surprising ending but I'll stick through it and find out.
Sweet berry wine!

Re: What are you reading right now?
I read Animal Farm in high school. It isn't a very long book because I remember reading half of it the first night. Either that or it was that good where it went by fast.
