Wow. Fighting constantly to try to get even 1st place ranking (forget the stars for now) on 150cc makes it butt-ass easy to rack up stars in the 50cc. I just swept through and got at least one star on each circuit, opening up Baby Daisy and yet another small kart. I think I could probably do the same in 100cc without much trouble.

I've also finally won a few matches online, though I still routinely get smoked. This morning, I was practically lapped on Peach Gardens, one of my favorite boards. I won one through some sort of weird error, though, I think. It was Rainbow Road, and I was in first for a good part of lap one. Then someone hit me with lightning right at a jump, knocking me off and into fourth place. (Luckily, on Rainbow Road, most people suck since there's no margin for error, or I would've been much further back.) I kept chugging along, passing only one guy and winding up in third. Suddenly, the race stopped, and told me the race was over since the rankings had all been determined. Huh? I thought for a second that the two people in front had somehow gotten a whole 1.5 laps ahead... only, I'd seen just one guy since getting knocked off. Weirder, when the results popped up, I was now in first place. I'm not sure, but I think the two guys in front were on the same Wii, and their wifi connection was interrupted for some reason, which automatically ended the race on the spot. I can't figure out anything otherwise.

If we're doing the invitational, we should probably set a time and make sure everything's working in advance. Unless you guys are familiar with how to do it.

Also, will vynsane.com's crack team of one cranky cybernetic reporter from the future be covering the proceedings?

i'm going to be at my mom's sunday morning, as it's the day after my brother's bachelor party and i'll be relatively hung-over, so it's going to have to be later for me... but since you anyone else with MK and a wii are on the left coast, i'm guessing that's not a huge issue...

The later (for you), the better. Even early afternoon for you would be late morning here. So far as I know, I've not got any plans.

Out of curiosity, do you guys have any favorite characters and vehicles? I usually don't use my Mii, since he's in the small weight class, and I prefer the large-class characters. I used Donkey Kong until I unlocked King Boo, who was my favorite (and the only character I ever use on Mario Party). However, I've become attached to Rosalina lately. It's just so fucking cool to have the star orbit you and cheer you on. Plus, it's a bit of psychological warfare when playing online -- since you don't see her up close, one can assume she's Link or some other super-secret character, and those not in the know might think the star is some sort of defensive mechanism. (That's what I thought the first time I went up against someone playing with Rosalina online.)

As for vehicles, unless a time trial calls for something with more speed, or if I unlock something that kicks serious ass, I'm pretty attached to the Wario Bike. It's badass-looking, got pretty got speed and acceleration, and has awesome handling. The drift isn't the best, but I'm so used to it, I actually do better with the weak drift.

i just unlocked the shooting star and am trying to perfect that one... pretty sweet bike. i also started playing with the wario bike, which made me win enough to get said shooting star.

like i said, i'm going to be at my mom's but i'm bringing the wii with me just in case. i set up a wireless network there a while ago, so it's not problem to get online. i may be home before we decide to start, but perhaps not. you know how these things go... grandma always wants the baby to stay as long as possible.

but, how's 1pm pacific (4pm eastern) sound for you guys? rogue deuce, you gonna have your TV set up by then?

Sounds good to me.

So, last night, I was going for my final 100cc star, on the lightning circuit (???--the one in the lower right corner). I got my sixty points, was looking forward to unlocking something cool... and only got an A. Then I had to sit through that damned closing sequence again. Funny, everything I've seen indicates sixty means one star, and the other two stars are dependent upon your time. I guess that's not the case. I'll have to re-do it, no matter how much I suck at that N64 Mario board.

stars seem to be dependent on how many mistakes you make, as well. i've noticed that if you screw up a lot (bump into walls, fall of rainbow road, etc... not get hit by weapons, because some of them you just can't avoid...) - i think you also have to keep in the front of the pack for most of the race, but i'm not sure about that one.

I'm not sure about the TV situation yet. Still need to pinpoint the budget and figure out exactly what I can get. There is a chance I will go TV shopping tomorrow morning before my wife and kids get home from Grandma's house. Probably easier that way. Already did some preliminary research online at Circuit City and Best Buy, but there are a few other stores I want to check out.

At worst, I'll sit really close to that 13" screen and hope for the best. I haven't been playing this game at all over the past few weeks so it might be ugly.

You must be right, vyn. I re-did the 100cc lightning circuit this morning, didn't have any noticeable difference in time, but fell off the edges less (which, the first time, were due to some really unfortunately timed turtle shells and lightning bolts), and got two stars.

Now for 150cc. I've still not even got all my first place wins on that one yet.

Either someone has your handle on Mario Kart, or I just had the distinct pleasure of racing you (and several other people--around 3:30 PM your time). I was using my real name and Rosalina on a Wario Bike. We were pretty neck-and-neck in Bowser's Castle for a while; you beat me at the last second when I made a serious judgment error jumping over one of those volcano things that was close to blowing its top (and, uh, did). However, I had the distinct pleasure of smooshing you with a super mushroom about half a lap earlier.

If this was you, nice driving.

If this was someone else with the same name, then fuck you, you name-ripper-offer, and go get a fucking Wii so you can come back and read this thread when it is about you. :p

i haven't even attempted the 150cc yet. i'm about half-way through the 100cc round... which i'm not having too difficult a time accruing single stars. i've yet to get any multi-stars, though.

Sorry to do this, but can we reschedule for next week (especially since R2's TV may not be replaced yet)?

I just was hit with some spur of the moment plans to go visit my parents. Since they live a few hours away and haven't seen Anarky Jr in a couple of months, I'm not passing up the chance.

(a little late...) postponing it worked out for me, as i was at my mom's house for a lot longer than i anticipated, and then ended up driving my brother and his future bro-in-law to the airport.

postponing it to next week, however, does NOT work as i will be in buffalo attending my bro's wedding. it'll have to be some other time.
