You may have heard that I spent the past few days looking through the archive photos of the old GI Joe line. That line peaked around 86, and got worse the closer it got to the 90s...especially the Cobra figures. The

Beachhead was probably the last GI Joe figure I got as a kid. Unless he mixed in with my vintage SW figures in the Darth Vader case, it's long gone by now. Hell, my SW figures barely survived.

Shit. My dad sold ALL OF OUR GI JOE STUFF to a coworker for $50. My brother and I had literally everything from the first 5 years including a FLAGG and nearly 2 complete sets of basic figures - as a matter of fact, I'm quite certain we were only missing the 3 missile launcher with Hawk and the Jetpack with Short Fuze... we had everything else. The guy must have had to take 2 loads with a pickup truck to get that shit out of our basement.

I was some kind of bitter when I came back from university and saw the results of that.

I ahve to admit, those look pretty wicked. If I had to pick faves I would go with the Cobra Soldier and Stormshadow. If those end up being $10 (as they most likely will) then I say 'FUCK HASBRO' in advance. You fucking assholes.

Pretty cool, but nothing I would buy. If there is another wave and it happens to contain a figure I had as a kid, like Rock n' Roll or Torpeedo, I'd think about it.

Snake Eyes, Stormshadow and Cobra Trooper for me for sure.

Snow Job, Stalker and Firefly would also have me coughing up money faster than a crackhead on welfare day.

The rumor I heard is that there will be 25, and they'll be in two-packs that retail for $10.

Not sure where that leaves figure #25. Total guess here, but an early list showed Hooded Cobra Commander, and we've clearly seen a figure of the other classic costume. I doubt they'd release two in the line if they're only doing 25 (though it's a possibility, as "Snake Eyes with Wolf" was on some early rumor lists), and the two CC's have different colored suits, so I doubt the fanboy speculation of a removable helmet will happen. I'm thinking #25 will be a mail-away Hooded Cobra Commander, like in the old days.

If they wind up looking like the figures in the pictures, that will be WELL WORTH it. I hope they don't ruin these between now and their release.

I'm looking forward to them. Even though they have that overly-airbrushed look of most Hasbro preview pics, these sculpts look quite good.

Then again, the HML prototypes they showed at Comic-Con last year looked quite good, too.

Didn't we ban GNT? His posts are just total topic killers that have nothing to do with anything. It's annoying and frustrating.

Okay, so all of a sudden YOU, and YOU ALONE are responsible for creating the remaining 5 2-packs of figures for this line in 2007. Keep a stiff upper lip, and tell me who you're putting out there.

JJ's PICKS - assuming the 25th figure will be cowled Cobra Commander

1. Firefly & Major Bludd

2. Cobra Officer & Cobra Soldier again

3. Snow Job & Spirit

4. Stalker & Torpedo (all new sculpt for Torpedo - too much awesome SEAL stuff out there to have him show up in the god damned wetsuit again)

5. Airborne & Flint

These are sure-fire hits, kids. I dare you to try and do better.

The list actually surfaced somewhere. I'll see if I can't track it down.

Meanwhile... The Grip to be a Joe???

I'm less bothered by that than the mention of "Samurai Snake Eyes." Samurai does not equal ninja. They're historically quite different, in fact.
