Re: mariokart wii
Man, I'm not sure how much I like the online play. If I wanted to get my ass kicked, I could put on a white hood and walk around Compton at night. It'd be quicker, but maybe not quite as thorough.
I've tried three times now. Each time, I start with a small group of normal people. But they slowly phase out and are replaced by people with golden wheel icons and two or three stars by their names--people who never leave the Wii, even to wee. When someone votes to race on Rainbow Road or Ghost Valley or DK Mountain or the N64 Bowser Castle, you know your ass is grass.

Re: mariokart wii
i've only raced ghosts on WFC (what does that stand for, anyway?) so i don't know about that, but i think for the most part any online gaming is dominated by those that are simply on the most.

Re: mariokart wii
it seems that it does... but that's assuming a lot, seeing as how people COULD have the wii hooked up through their router via the ethernet dongle.Rogue II wrote:Does WFC stand for Wi-fi chanel?
i think, instead, we should say it means "whores for cheap".

I somehow missed this one.Rogue II wrote:I'm in, but I'm bailing if I catch Bizarro The Grin tailgating me.
You realize that one of us is now going to make a Bizarro The Grin Mii and have a friend or spouse play that character, just so s/he can tailgate you and scare you shitless.

Re: mariokart wii
I had a do-nothing day playing video games. I beat several ghosts today, took a couple more gold medals, and unlocked Birdo, Daisy, Rosalina, and two more bikes.
I'm a little miffed that the bikes (and karts) in the different size categories aren't more comparable. I'm much better with the large vehicles (ie, Donkey Kong, Boo, and, for some reason, Rosalina). My Mii, though I didn't make him especially small, is in the lowest weight class, and his vehicles aren't as good.
Speaking of Miis, added Jimi Hendrix, Freddie Mercury, and an Ozzy Osbourne I'm especially proud of to my collection last night.
My WFC score hovers around 5000, going as high as 5050 and as low as 4925. It does seem that the scoring is based on experience and skill. Last night, I came in 8th in a group of 12. I got 20 points, but the dude in 7th actually lost more than 100.
BTW, if you turkeys like Dr Mario, I downloaded it. It's a bit disappointing, as it costs twice as much as an NES game, and the Wii enhancements aren't that great. However, I can play online, and it appears I can send a trial version to anyone. If interested, let me know. It looks like you can only play online with it, and only against the person who sent it to you (or maybe anyone with the full version of Dr Mario Wii Prescription--I might be wrong on that).
My big qualm with it is the difficulty of the CPU players in Vs mode. Easy is ridiculously simple. Normal will smoke you in short order, usually winning by a margin of 20 viruses or more! I've not had the stomach to try Hard, and those are the only three settings. I like a challenge, but, damn, I want some chance that I can win if I'm playing well.

All the unlockables
Fuck me.
Here's an idea: if you go online, and you're up against someone in Mii (Outfit B) or Dry Bowser, with three stars by his name, and driving the Nitrocycle (or any of several other comparable vehicles), probaby a good idea to just unplug your modem or router and get it over with.

"mirror mode"? cheez, man, they really pulled out all the stops on this one! that's actually really cool, though - means they put a lot of work to make it as re-playable as possible.

Re: mariokart wii
I'm slowly racking up the gold medals in 150cc. They're really fucking ruthless, though, and it's almost impossible to keep a good lead on them. (I suspect a bit on cheating on the computer's part, but that just makes it a challenge. Well, until you get three first place wins, and wind up in twelfth for the fourth, when it just pisses you off.)
Those expert ghosts, though, man. You've got to beat regular ghosts by seven seconds to unlock them, and unlock several for certain characters and bikes? Shit, I have the toughest time beating those SOBs by 1/10th of a second! And a star rating on the 150cc circuits seems next to impossible, too. I'm hoping that one of these additional bikes or karts that I can unlock is really well-rounded and high end. Otherwise, I'll never unlock those.
BTW, when you unlock Rosalina, she's fucking awesome. I was totally a King Boo guy, but the Luma (little star guy) orbiting you and cheering you on is cool as hell.
I also read somewhere that the WFC matches are broken down into difficulty groups based on score. It's just not immediately obvious, since the first bracket appears to go up to a score of about 9,999. After reading that, I did recall I've never seen anyone higher, and only seen a very small number of the higher end characters (Funky Kong being, IIRC, the "hardest" to unlock that I faced off against).

Re: mariokart wii
I haven't been playing Mario Kart because of the TV situation. But when I was playing the 100 and 150cc races, I'd finish either 1st or 2nd in 3 races and then blow the last race. Gravity is a harsh mistress.

Re: mariokart wii
I haven't gone back to the ghosts yet. Seven seconds. That's like two eternities in Mario Kart terms. You'd have to practically lap the ghost.
