Battlestar Galactica

most tv sucks these days, but there are some shining examples of good writing, acting, camera work, etc... we call those Deadwood and Arrested Development. Family Guy sucks ass, though...

Moderators: Zero, John Madden, Bob Ross, General Zod, Richard Simmons, Batman

Battlestar Galactica

Post by Eternal Padawan »

So I thought the original was lame ( even when I was five years old, that stupid dog thing was...stupid) but Cylons[cy] rocked. And talked cool.

So fast forward 20+ years. Remake? Mini series? Lame. Ongoing series because the mini did well? ho hum...then I start hearing from different sources how good it is. So I went out and bought Season 1 with the Mini Series included. Annnd....

I liked it. Grace Park is SMOKIN'!!! Especially when there are a like 50 of her walking around naked on the Cylon Starbase. Mmmmmmmm....[cy] With the magic of computers we can look forward to a little Grace on Grace action!

The only thing that suckles is they are releasing Season 2 in two halves, so I'll either have to have two helves on my shelf or wait a reaalllly long time for the COMPLETE season 2 to come out.

Well, Season 2.0 came out today. Season 2.5 won't hit until sometime in 2006. I resisted the urge to buy it. Waiting on whether the whole thing will come out eventually. it's sick that Universal thinks they can charge $50 for HALF A FUCKING SEASON.

so... i started taking your advice 3 years later and you are right, this show is so frakin' awesome. i've been watching the marathon they have been playing (thanks to the DVR) all last week (and i think this week?) leading up to friday's third (and final) season opener. man, the shit they went through, especially saul, on new caprica is FRAKKED up... great series. i got into it last tuesday, so i missed quite a bit from monday's marathon run, but i've been able to get into the swing of things quickly.

I saw the miniseries and was bored to tears, but it really does get better, huh? Well, thank heavens for Netflix.

i haven't seen the mini, so i wouldn't know if it wasn't somehow in the same vein, but if you hated on it that much, i'd have to say yes, it does. i watched literally from 8am to 7pm yesterday. got through a day and a half of the marathon, two days all told this past weekend.

SPOILERS!!!

I loved the mini series. It set the tone for the series. "Oh were fucked. We're on the run. We have to make hard choices to survive." I thought the part where the President ordered all the ships without FTL drives to be left behind really drove that home. And Caprica Six snapping the baby neck was a "oh shit!" moment. Then the VERY first episode of the regular series where they had to blow up the passenger liner because it MIGHT be being tracked by the Cylons and there MIGHT be thousands of people still on board. That was heavy.

Then it just gets more dark and angsty from there.

A recent interview with Katee "Starbuck" Sackhoff, in regards to the final few episodes, said "I didn't think this show could go any darker. Apparently I was wrong..."

This show is amazing. Was able to get through the third season in about five days. Now, I have to wait a week in between fourth season shows, like everyone else. Blasted!
I am not going to use an image. Dammit.

Wow. This was 20 years ago? We are old.

I saw it was Prime and rewatched the 3 hour mini series/pilot last night. The VFX don’t hold up that great. They were doing that shaky camera/documentary style footage to cover up the cheapness. I guess it serves the story, but they’ve come a long way since then.

The story held up well.

I noticed they threw a Firefly easter egg in there. When Roslin is getting her cancer diagnosis at the very beginning, a familiar ship flies by the windows.
"No Tom Foolery today, Ron. I'm tired of looking at your dreadful, speckled mug."
"Why do you hurt me in this way, Harry?"
”It’s a grid system motherfucker. Eleven up and one over, you simple bitch.”

the FX for the mini vs. the ongoing series are definitely low-budget. they got quite a bit better for the main run. i tried to get my daughter into this series, but she wasn't into it at the time. might have to try again.
