Re: Top Summer Film of 2012
The Dark Knight Rises - This is a no-brainer. This flick has a lot to live up to and I trust Nolan to finish this trilogy right. There's no way this will be another Spider-Man 3.
Avengers - A close second. I've enjoyed or loved all 5 of the pre-Avengers flicks. With Whedon at the helm and those trailers my nerd boner is still raging.
The Hunger Games - I want to this movie to be really good, but I'm more than a bit wary about a Twilight effect.
The Amazing Spider-Man - As cool as Raimi's flicks seem, the only one I truly like is Spider-Man 2. The first was insanely boring (especially upon a second viewing) and 3 had so much wasted potential. Based on the trailers this one looks like it could be too dark but it feels like a different enough beast to separate itself.
John Carter - The marketing on this film sucks hard, but the reviews give me some hope this could actually not be a shitfest.
Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter - The book was an absurd, yet entertaining take on Lincoln. I'm hoping the movie will be the same.
Prometheus - Lots of hype, but I'm indifferent right now.
GIJoe: Retaliation - The trailer looks promising, but fuck, that first flick was almost as bad as Transformers. I just can't muster any real excitement.
Men In Black III - Men in Black is awesome. Men is Black 2 was the exact opposite of awesome. I'm curious as to where this one will land. It looks potentially promising. Josh Brolin looks like a great young Tommy Lee Jones.
Battleship - Fuck this flick. Not even Liam Neeson can save it.

The Lorax beat John Carter at the Box Office this week. That's not a good sign. But I know no matter what, that JC is probably better than ye Lorax. Because the Lorax is a fucking abomination. Also, I've gotten a couple positive reccommendations for JC from friends.

The JC recommendations I've gotten are more than merely positive. They're gushing.

The teens rule the world's hunger games will rake it in. The only movies on the list ill pay to see in theater are avengers and batman which will finish 3rd and 2nd.

I figured out another movie that was left off the list. The Three Stooges comes out in April. I thought there were supposed to be big names like Sean Penn and Jim Carrey in it, but I guess they dropped out. With or without them, I'm sure it will still be an amazing film.
It looks like there is going to be a bunch of cameos, including people from the Jersey Shore.

Re: Top Summer Film of 2012
I keep seeing ads and tie-in shit for The Hunger Games.
I am going to have to watch The Running Man again soon.
All kidding aside, given the obvious similarities, I'm surprised that it doesn't look like some cable station isn't airing the fuck out of The Running Man in the next week or so.

Of course it's a remake! Arnold Schwarzenegger was a great man, well, until he started going lib. Living in California will do that to you. Fucking commie state. Hunger Games is a warning about what things will be like if Barack HUSSEIN Osama keeps getting his way.
I ain't watching that fucking movie about the half-naked guy who fucks aliens. That shit is totally gay.
I would watch a movie called "Abraham Lincoln: Liberal Killer."

Supposedly there were 1 million pre-sold tickets for the opening of Hunger Games. I really know nothing about it other than people compare it to Running Man and that it is supposed to be the same quality and target audience of Twilight.

Not having read Twilight, I'm gonna go ahead and call bullshit on the quality part.Ran wrote:Supposedly there were 1 million pre-sold tickets for the opening of Hunger Games. And the The Running Man comparisons are pretty slim - People fight for their lives on tv.
As much as I want to see The Hunger Games, I'll probably wait a week or two to avoid most of the tweens.

Re: Top Summer Film of 2012
I'll split this into two posts so each gets enough attention (screw you, Grimlock). I have no real interest in Hunger Games; I'll probably see it on HBO and may eventually read the books, or not. But, by default, it has to be better than Twilight. I couldn't survive more than a few pages of that monstrosity, and the movie was one of the most painful experiences I've ever had, beating out almost losing a damned finger to an infected animal bite (which was worse than childbirth; don't believe what any woman who's given birth says).
The soundtrack's quite good. All Americana stuff produced by T-Bone Burnett; I'm not sure how it plays into a remake of The Running Man with a girl who shoots arrows, but I'd get the soundtrack to fucking Three Stooges if it was all Americana stuff and produced by T-Bone Burnett. That's like slapping a label on it that says, "The contents of this soundtrack absolutely do not suck."

Re: Top Summer Film of 2012
Second post: I just got home from watching John Carter.
Or, as I will refer to it from this point onward (at least in this post), "Speed Racer 2: A Sequel With Absolutely Nothing to Do With the Racer Family."
No shit. Critically reviled. Box office bomb to the level that unfunny radio DJ's joke about it while obviously having never seen it. Probably going to more or less end the career of an amazing director. One of Michael GiaIcan'tspellhisnameaciano's best scores. And one hell of an amazing movie. Definitely the Speed Racer of 2012. I'm not 100% committed that it will be the best film of the year, but Avengers and Dark Knight Rises have a mighty high bar to strive for.
If it's still showing in your area, you need to see it. Quit your job, abandon your kids, whatever the hell you need to do. Just see it.
