Old X-Men show

most tv sucks these days, but there are some shining examples of good writing, acting, camera work, etc... we call those Deadwood and Arrested Development. Family Guy sucks ass, though...

Old X-Men show

Post by anarky »

Anarky Jr wanted to see a cartoon. Nothing's on. I didn't feel like digging out a DVD (or sitting through a whole one), so I looked on OnDemand, and they had a few episodes of X-Men. I queued up "Nightcrawler," which I remember as being one of the best episodes.

Damn.

This show is awful. Not unwatchable, but not very good.

The animation is piss-poor. The voices suck ass. Some of the 1990s designs are decent, but others (Rogue's boof hairdo chief among them) look stupid now. The writing usually isn't particularly good, either (there are some moments in "Nightcrawler" that border on good, but, like I said, this was one that everyone thought was so much better than the rest).

I know we all loved it. Was it entirely the "holy shit, it's an X-Men cartoon!!!!" factor?

(At least it wasn't as bad as Spider-Man, which wasn't as bad as Hulk, which wasn't as bad as Iron Man, which wasn't as bad as Fantastic Four, which wasn't as bad as Spider-Man Unlimited, which wasn't as bad as Avengers. Man, Marvel had a ton of cartoons in the 90s, and they all blew.)

The X-Men cartoon NEVER held my interest. I think I watched all of three episodes before I got bored of it. I think my major emotion at the time was gladness that the X-Men were getting some well deserved exposure in other mediums.

But I don't think I've seen ANY episodes of any of those other cartoons. I remember the Hulk/Spidey hour back in the early 80s, but after that I think the next Marvel Animation I saw was the MTV Spidey series and the Ultimate Avengers movies. And I haven't seen anything after that either. I guess I'm way behind.
