America: The story of Us

most tv sucks these days, but there are some shining examples of good writing, acting, camera work, etc... we call those Deadwood and Arrested Development. Family Guy sucks ass, though...

Moderators: Zero, John Madden, Bob Ross, General Zod, Richard Simmons, Batman

America: The story of Us

Post by Ran »

Anyone watching this on the History Channel? The celebrity interviews are puzzling. Ok, I guess I get Donald Trump, but Sheryl Crow and Michael Douglas? Does anyone really need their opinion on westward expansion and how they think the settlers might have felt?

As with most "events" on the History Channel, I figured I'd wait to see if the reviews were good, and catch it in one of the endless cycle of reruns.

The idea is intriguing, but the commercials make it look like "American history as directed by Michael Bay." Is that the case?

Well, they just interviewed John Legend while talking about Abe Lincoln. He basically said that you can do whatever you put your mind to. Other than the celebrity interviews and a few actual historians, the whole thing is re-enactments and CGI. I'm turning it off.

CGI Abe Lincoln sounds awesome. Especially if he was fighting dinosaurs attacking Washington DC or some awesome shit like that.

No CGI Lincoln, but they did have a re-enactment of Daniel Boone getting attacked by a bear.

CGI was mostly used for showing maps. Everything else was live action.

Bah. I would've "embellished" the history of America with giant squid monsters and George Washington actually being a gestalt robot made up of hyper-intelligent pygmys in Voltron style battle suits. And Teddy Roosevelt could shoot lasers from his eyes and invented sharks.

What a waste of CGI. :|

i thought you said you'd embellish, not just quote from textbooks.
