Too far in terms of gore? There really isn't a lot there. I find a little confusing actually. I see a couple of legs and part of a hunk of bloody something.anarky wrote:if it's an actual cover for a 616 book, it might go a little too far:

If you're... oh, wait, I forgot only comic shops carry comics anymore, so no worries about anyone not stocking it.
In any case, it goes too far in terms of stupid.
The piece on the right looks like a torso, with the right arm chopped off (closest to the front of the picture) and the head apparently torn off (slightly above and to the left). The little bit of the Punisher skull logo we can see seems to affirm this orientation of the torso.

Remember, this is a character that has been killed, brought back to life by angels and given the power to magically produce weaponry in order to kill demons.anarky wrote:In any case, it goes too far in terms of stupid.
And he was turned into a black guy for a while.

Re: NO!
Also, this whole reveal kinda-probably ruins the end of the current storyline.

Re: NO!
I'm not familiar with Remender's work, but in this interview, he sounds like sort of a sanctimonious prick. "Don't judge it before you read it!" I'm pretty sure a lot of people judged black Punisher and angel Punisher before reading them, and were right. I'm getting kinda sick of the entire internet-age "Don't judge anything until you buy it and read/watch it." Honestly, man, some shit you can tell is shit before you waste your money.

You know what actually could be a pretty wild ride? Get someone who's damned good, maybe not Ennis himself, but maybe Warren Ellis or Keith Giffen or Alan Grant or even Chuck Dixon without Comic Code restraints, and go back and re-tell the entire 1980s ongoing series, including spin-offs, but not as corny and kid-friendly as before. The storyline that led into the black Punisher had the potential to be great, it was just executed badly. Imagine a 616 Punisher who's closer to the MAX version fighting shit like that mobile superfortress run by drug dealers and formed by a conglomeration of merging cars and trucks. That could be a lot of fun.
Given that they have to eventually acknowledge the entire timestream was fucked up by Mary Jane's deal with the devil, it would give them a perfect opening to re-tell all these stories.

Re: NO!
With the exception of the latest issue's revelation, Remender has been doing a pretty good job on The Punisher thus far, so I'm going to give this new direction a shot. And if it does suck as much as it appears it might, everything will go back to normal eventually.
I would love to see a second MAX Punisher that handled superheroes, but there ain't no way Marvel would allow Spider-man or Wolverine to be included in a Max title with all the cussin', brain-splatterin', naked booby goodness. Punisher Max has had 3 616 characters appear so far: Nick Fury (which was awesome - he likes the whores), Jigsaw (he kinda sucked, but it wasn't Ennis) and Microchip (which was well handled, but got a bit messy).
The upcoming Max relaunch will introduce Kingpin and Bullseye, which is still a wait-and-see. I've always thought a Max Kingpin could work.
It really could be cool to see a Max Wolverine book outside of 616 continuity. Give Logan his own pocket Max universe like Frank Castle has.

Re: NO!
I really don't understand why they wouldn't do a more graphic Punisher book in the 616. I mean, Luke Cage talks about having anal sex and Peter Parker has drunken one night stands after listening to Aunt May talk about her sex life in detail, so why not dispense with the idea these are for kids already? (I'd be happier if they kinda toned it down, but, kinda like sex scenes on TV shows, if you're going to do it, don't do it half-assed.)

Re: NO!
when did this happen? i don't remember any talking about it, but if you're referring to the first issue of 'alias', that was a MAX title.anarky wrote: I mean, Luke Cage talks about having anal sex

Re: NO!
Gotta love the totally wrong-looking connection for the spine.
As lame as the idea is, I didn't realize they were going for the full-on stitches across the forehead and bolts in the neck Frankenstein shit.

Re: NO!
Just wondering based on his costume (and the fact he's alive): did they totally retcon the 1990s Morbius series out of existence?

Re: NO!
Just saw a preview at CBR with a commentary by the writer, who's still going to insane lengths to imply anyone who doesn't like this is a moron, because he's a typical internet troll given control of a comic book, it seems.
Just in the few pages, several huge problems stuck out to me:
1) Morbius looks way off, like you said in another thread, DB.
2) Punisher should probably know Morbius, and know he's good-intentioned, at the least. Something about his hissyfit doesn't quite ring true.
3) Man-Thing seems sentient. Man-Thing isn't.
4) They can control Man-Thing, and they need to make a monster? Why? This doesn't make sense. You've got Man-Thing on your side. The guy is indestructible and hugely deadly. Never mind Werewolf by Night and Morbius and who knows who else. Really, why do you need an undead guy with guns?
5) Monster Island? What the fuck?
6) According to his Wikipedia page, Morbius is a card-carrying registered superhero. That doesn't seem to fit with the mad scientist here.
7) Morbius isn't a pussy. Morbius is badass. His responses are way out of character here.
