Why did they bring back Reno 911?
Have you guys seen it this season? Fuck my ass with a splintered broom handle, this season is as bad as the others were good. Worse, even. I've not seen a full episode yet. After ten minutes of not laughing at what used to be one of the funniest shows out there, I've turned to a documentary or turned on the Wii to wait out The Daily Show.
I'm not sure which is worse--coming on the heels of great episodes of South Park, like last week and the week before, or coming after what could be the worst episode in South Park history (last night). At least last night it wasn't as big a letdown, but that could be because I already expected it to suck.
Doing the show without Garcia, Kimball, and Johnson is just wrong. That's about half the fucking cast. And these two new guys they got to replace them are unfunny and interchangeable.
The commercials for Krod Mandoon look funnier than this show, and those commercials are just a big load of man doon.

Re: Why did they bring back Reno 911?
Are you serious? I've been loving this season. Joe Lo Truglio is fucking awesome in anything. I never liked Kimball too much anyway so I wasn't sad to see her go; she didn't really fit well with the others when they introduced her in season three and Mary Birdsong just wasn't too great at improv. I liked Clementine and Garcia, but it's fine without them. So there's still five of the seven original cast.
What's been unfunny to you, apart from them not bringing back some of the cast? To me, at least, it felt like the kind of humor they regularly do. I felt like the last year or so (whichever season had the hot wings/pink cars episode) was kind of in a rut, always seeing the same criminals in the same places week after week and not really having too strong of a running theme throughout the episode.

Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

Re: Why did they bring back Reno 911?
Maybe it's that it seems too much like earlier seasons. Too much recycling. And introducing two guys with mustaches and shades at once without really setting them up is a disservice to both characters--neither has a chance to develop without the other.
The only thing I've really found even slightly amusing is when the big guy was introducing Williams to his street-level informant, and it turned out to be Terry. Trouble is, they probably should retire Terry at this point. He's seriously bordering on overexposure, especially when his ridiculous stories about his dad have been proven correct to the deputies twice now (and Seeemji was kinda just a play on that)!
Losing about half the cast at once is a bad thing for a show like this. Replacing one person smells of "last season desperation." Three at once is "how the hell did this escape cancellation?" Clemmy shouldn't be axed and replaced by a dude; it leaves a bit of a void. I'm sure they were trying to not be obvious about the new characters being obvious surrogates, but there's not really enough to set them apart. (Like I mentioned before, if they'd been introduced at different times, both could be better. They could've had only five people for a few episodes, even. There have always been "generic sheriffs" in the background.) Doesn't help that they mostly appear to be in the Garcia/Junior mold with minor tweaks, either.
And I thought Kimball was great partly because Mary Birdsong was so wooden at improv. She wound up being an unintentional "straight man" even when she was supposed to be funny--sort of the same deal as Adam West on the old Batman show, where he was the only guy who couldn't do comedy. (That's what makes him so funny on Family Guy, too.)
I'm sure I'll catch them in reruns, and I could change my mind, or the season could get better. Even Family Guy started off so godawful shitty that it should've been canned after two episodes, so a sixth season lull isn't too terrible in the scheme of things. Could be that, following the queef and fishsticks episodes of South Park, my expectations were too high, and last night I was just fucking bored after that terrible South Park, so I didn't watch them fairly.
Still, Reno with no Clemmy? That's like That 70s Show without Eric. Or Dukes of Hazzard without Bo and Luke. Wait a second.

to be fair, the dukes recovered from that. that 70's show didn't. it was canceled within a season of foreman leaving. say what you will about ashton kutcher, but at least he didn't leave the show that made him famous high and dry when he reached the heights that he did. topher grace bolted as soon as he had a few movies in the can and what have you heard from him lately?anarky wrote:Still, Reno with no Clemmy? He was canned from the Venom movie. And he's selling hot dogs in Huntington Beach.

Let's be completely honest. That 70s Show had been dead in the water for about three years by the time either one left. Not defending Topher, but the ship had already sank by that point.

Re: Why did they bring back Reno 911?
BUT kutcher had a huge career long before the show went down hill. topher didn't. i respect kutcher for sticking with it until it ended. i doubt it would've lasted another season anyway, had topher left or not. he should've stuck it out as well, but he didn't. that's why kutcher is married to demi moore and rich and famous and topher is... um... not boning the hot redhead turn blond from that 70's show?
other than that, i can't say much about that OR about the actual topic at hand, as i didn't really watch either with any sort of regularity.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) – "Reno 911!" won't be answering emergency calls anymore.

Comedy Central has canceled the mocumentary series after six seasons. The news broke the way a lot of news tends to break these says, with a tweet.
"Reno 911! was canceled at 1:30 pm today," the show's co-creator/star Thomas Lennon wrote on his Twitter feed Thursday afternoon. "Won't be wearing the shorts again."
The sixth season of "Reno 911!" wrapped its run July 8. The show, a parody of "Cops"-type law enforcement documentary shows," co-stars Kerri Kenney-Silver, Cedric Yarbrough, Niecy Nash and Robert Ben Garant.
An unidentified Colorado man dressed as Pee Wee Herman has been seen beating on the doors of Comedy Central's headquarters in Los Angeles, screaming, "Bring it back! Bring it back. Oh, God, bring it back! I will suck your dicks if you bring it back!"

From what I hear, Reno was depicted rather accurately in the show.
