I was just flipping through the channels and saw a new video by an old band best left forgotten. I looked them up on Wikipedia and, sure, enough, they're back together.
Who, you ask?
The New Kids on the Block.
WTF? Didn't Donnie Wahlberg actually gain a little respectability as an actor specializing in spineless druggie characters? It looks like other former members went on to illustrious careers as real estate agents. No lie. That's only slightly less pathetic than the members of the Sugarhill Gang now working as garbagemen.
And, yet, here is this monstrosity. Who is it supposed to appeal to, I must wonder? It's total boy band garbage coming out of the mouths of five guys who are older than I am and look it. Their original fans have surely moved on (minus one or two really disturbed chicks who can't get dates and live with dozens of cats). And this isn't going to get any new fans, as the preteen set who digs this shit wants young guys who don't look like they've been run over by cars.
I have this feeling this will be a bigger fiasco than when Hanson proved they actually had musical talent and some pretty good chops, but no one cared, because, hey, it was Hanson. Only, well, like I said, Hanson proved they had talent--something the New Kids never did and never will. (Unless it's Donnie proving he can play spineless druggie characters really well, but not as well as his brother.)

My wife, who was all happy for about 5 seconds because she loved them as a kid and hasn't said a word about it since.anarky wrote:Who is it supposed to appeal to, I must wonder?
I have a feeling that the recent Spice Girls reunion will be considered a massive hit in comparison.

I didn't read it. It said you're gay if you did. So I didn't.

Re: Another "you're fucking kidding me" moment
this came on the other day while i was watching the baby... and i couldn't turn away from it. it was like watching a train plow through a herd of cattle in slow-motion. i was astounded:
a: that they're still alive
and
b: that they all thought this was a good idea
and
c: that they got a bunch of hot chicks to dance all over them, with not one look of revulsion! they must've paid each one of those hookers A LOT of money...
