Anything good on TV this season?

Then perhaps I won't waste my time. Thanks, jj.jjreason wrote:Sadly, the only Canadian shows I follow are Hockey Night in Canada, Trailer Park Boys and the odd slice of Kenny vs. Spenny. No Corner Gas or Little Mosque for me.
I was a little made at myself last Saturday, as I forgot it was Hockey DAY in Canada and they were showing a triple-header. I caught about two minutes of the late game was all. I'm so happy to have CBC and be able to watch Hockey Night in Canada.
Interesting note. The abbreviation for Hockey Night in Canada is HNIC. If you've seen "Happy Kwanzaa, Charlie Brown!" you'd know that that has a much different meaning.

about "little mosque", I only watched the pilot episode and I didn't think too much of it, the "jokes" were all real forced, and at least one of the main characters is the most obviously NOT muslim dude in Canadian television, Carlo Rota
It is almost exactly like Corner Gas "with a muslim twist", and that hsow is pretty crappy too- sometimes I'll catch a piece of it and it's kinda funny (there's a few pretty fun characters on it) but the main guy, who's name not surprisingly is Brent Butt (real name AND his characters name I think, never seen enough to be sure, but the actors name is Butt for sure) is the most annoying asshole I've seen in a long time- can't place exactly what makes him so, but I kinda feel mad when I see him or hear him talk, so I can't enjoy it either
Best Canadian tv comedy would be The Rick Mercer Report (predates the Colbert Report) it's like a Canadian Daily Show only weekly- should be on tuesdays at 8. It tends to be political for the most part, but it's a bit less cynical, usually focusses on the sillier side of things, and Mercer has been doing the same schtick for a long time and has some "cred" with folkls, so he usually has pretty "big" political figures on his show and does crazy stuff with them, like gets 'em to go skinny dipping and shit like that, there's been some totally hilarious shit on there- there's also phony commercials that are usually pretty good...

I've actually caught the Mercer Report and thought it was quite funny. Also, there's a show called "The Hour" (I think) that's pretty good. Oddly enough, I find myself watching the CBC world news instead of one of the American network outfits. It tends to be less full of shit than its American counterpart.

The Hour- it's supposedly been on tv for a couple years but only came to non-cable this fall.
George Strombolopolous is kinda goofy, but most of the time the writing is decent, and he gets some pretty good guests, usually if I'm awake at the time I'll watch it since it's current and usually pretty funny for a Canadian show
If you get channel.. what, 17?? They show the BBC Wrold news at 6 and it's even better than Canadian news IMO, check it out if you want actual news presented as such- there's still a bit of spin, natch, but it is kinda presented so you can be well aware of it, they stay away from talking points and ad hominem crap for the most part (unless it's about British stuff, then all bets are off)

Its shown on the same network as "Hockey Night in Canada". The thing about the "spin" on Canadian news is that for us Americans its a much different spin. It doesn't tend to lean to the American left or right like FoxNews or NBC do.

Re: Anything good on TV this season?
Too early to revive this?
Most of what I'm seeing commercials for looks like more of the same. Lost and Heroes are doing well, so now everyone has to have a bunch of sci-fi shows. Journeyman looks to be yet another retread of Morning Edition, which sucked to begin with. There's that vampire show (Moonlight?), which will probably be doofy, as will the show about the immortal guy.
All said, Bionic Woman looks to be the biggest bomb of the season, if only because NBC is hyping the hell out of it, and it looks like the worst idea for a remake ever. I could be proven wrong, but I somehow doubt it.
My wife watches Singing Bee, which is mildly amusing.
What else?
Good Eats still kicks ass. Alton Brown is a fucking god.
Deadwood and Sopranos are gone, so is Arrested Development. Simpsons is no longer funny. I guess it looks like a year of Family Guy, American Dad, and various shows on the educational channels (on the rare occasion they don't run the same thing 47 times a week).

Re: Anything good on TV this season?
Well, I am going to be watching Heroes. I have started watching the Sci-Fi channel alot, gotten into Dr. Who, Flash Gordon and PainKiller Jane. Although Jane kinda sucks, I just watch it because its better than most shit out there.
As for Bionic Woman, I will give it a shot, why you might ask? Because its on Wednesday nights and there is not shit to watch on Wednesday ever. 24 picks up midseason, so hopefully that will be a decent year for it also.

I'll be tuned in to "Heroes", "The Office", "Family Guy", "My Name Is Earl", "Lost" and "South Park" this season. There's a remote chance that I might give "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" a try.
Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun.

Don't get used to it. Its been shitcanned already.kidhuman wrote:PainKiller Jane. Although Jane kinda sucks, I just watch it because its better than most shit out there.
My watch list is:
The Office
My Name is Earl
Scrubs (Yay for NBC Thursdays!)
Family Guy
Heroes
The new shows don't look all that interesting.
Bionic Woman looks like an Alias type of show (and Alias was boring from the few eps I saw).
The Sarah Conner Chronicles looks pretty meh. I may watch a few eps because of Summer Glau.
Cavemen (

I can't really think of any other new shows.

Re: Anything good on TV this season?
The only reason I watch it is because it is on between Dr. Who and Flash Gordon really.
I forgot about Scrubs, but that should go with out saying.
I liked Alias, well, the first three seasons are the only ones I have seen. Have to get 4 and 5.

Re: Anything good on TV this season?
Have you watched American Dad beyond the first few eps, DB? Just curious. I thought it was one of the worst shows ever when it first came out, but once they figured out it wasn't a second-rate Family Guy and started doing mostly political humor, it's been a lot better. No Family Guy, still, but pretty funny.

Re: Anything good on TV this season?
Sadly, yes, I've seen far too much American Dad.
I hate watching shows in the middle and very few shows start on the :30 on Sunday, so I end up watching American Dad between The Simpsons and Family Guy (or after Family Guy - whenever it happens to be on).
I think the show has actually gotten worse since it started. I laugh at The Simpsons far more than American Dad.

Re: Anything good on TV this season?
Really about the only interesting shows this fall season look like Pushing Daisies which has a quirky Tim Burton-esque vibe to it. I don't know how it will sustain itself as an ongoing series, but DEFINITELY check out the first episode, which sets up the premise. You won't be dissappointed.
And the only new show I'll be watching is Chuck. Which is like if one of us was the chick from Alias. You'll know what I mean when you watch it. And the chick in it is totally the hottest chick ever.
