HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOYES!!!!
Hopefully this will not suck.
It certainly looks promising. Cartoon Network has a history of killing shows that don't suck, though.

Thundercats HOOOOOOOO!!!
Fucking awesome resurrection. Only one episode in, and it's not only a fresh re-imagining of the series, but it's definitely going to be episodic. I hope it's not canned as quickly as the Masters of the Universe and GIJoe Renegades series.
Thoughts so far:
Thundara is not a separate world, but a kingdom on Third Earth. It's the stronghold of the cats, the dominant species. They rule with an iron hand and rely on sorcery. Technology is a myth, and Lion-O, the crown prince, is the only Thundercat who believes it exists. Some of the things we see make me think that "First Earth" is our current world.
In the first episode, a legion of lizards, led by General Slythe (who's much, much nastier than in the original) invading and destroying the city of Thundara. The episode ends with Jaga sending the three Thundercats thus far--Lion-O, his older brother (!!!) Tigra, and the last of Jaga's clerics, Cheetara--along with Lion-O's pet, Snarf (who gets a Cringer treatment here and doesn't talk) to find a mythical Book of Omens, which will answer all their questions, before he pulls a "Gandalf Kenobi" and dies saving them. It's shown the "Thunderkittens" as street urchins, but it's unclear how they'll be involved; they have a partial map to a mythical town of treasure, "Eldora" (which sounds like a bastardization of "El Dorado," further cementing that this is our world in the far future), so I'm guessing the Book of Omens will be there. Panthro is apparently a prisoner of Mumm-Ra's forces somewhere; Mumm-Ra impersonates him to kill Lion-O's father. None of the new Thundercats from season 2 of the original (Bengali, Lynxo, and some other character I don't remember) have shown up.
This very much reminds me of the MOTU series from a few years back, keeping only the barest details from the original; it may even be further from the original than MOTU 2002 was. I really hope this lasts at least long enough to complete a full story arc, but MOTU 2002 and Batman: The Brave and the Bold prove that Cartoon Network is not kind to shows on Friday nights unless they suck. (Yes, I'm bearing in mind that Clone Wars airs on Friday when I say that.)

A girl I work with has twin 5 year old boys. She told me Friday that her kids couldn't wait to see this show. They are in really into the new Voltron.

Re: Thundercats HOOOOOOOO!!!
I saw part of an episode of the new Voltron. Like the three or four Voltron revivals that preceded it, it sucks so much ass it has to be classified as a black hole.
And you know I'm not hating on it because it's not the original. It really did suck.

Re: Thundercats HOOOOOOOO!!!
Looked on another forum, and people are insane. "Is this a reboot, or does it take place centuries in the future, and all the characters happen to have the same names as the characters from the original series?" I'm not making that up.
However, several folks did comment on a Lynxo cameo. I didn't catch it.

Kevin Michael Richardson as Panthro, doing essentially the same voice he used for Roadblock in Renegades.
Nice to know he'll be getting a steady paycheck still.

You might appreciate this, Snarf. (I wouldn't have known it existed if the DVR hadn't seen it as a new Thundercats episode.)

I'd call that more of an homage than a rip-off. I realize that homage is just a douchey French word for rip-off, but they seemed to do it with a sincere appreciation of TCats and Roger Rabbit both.
Tim Kring's Heroes is what I would define a rip-off. It's clearly a mash up of X-Men, Watchmen, and a hundred other comic books, but Tim insists he's never read a comic in his life and the entire idea was his.

I know, I know. Just ribbing Snarf, since he's an inverted cunt.
I love the way the theme music is a "Looney Toons-ized" version of the 80s theme, which isn't used in the new show, IIRC.

That was rather harsh. I take it you still have the taste of shit in your mouth, that disgusting shit flavor that comes from a lifetime of not watching The Blues Brothers.

If your not careful, you're going to build The Blues Brothers up too much and it'll never live up to expectations when he actually sits down to watch it. In fact, he'll probably find something to dislike about it and focus on that.
Kinda like you and Firefly. Hater.

I just haven't gotten around to Firefly and it's not at the top of my to-do list.

Nope. Minty fresh and I keep that way by not watching The Blues Brothers.anarky wrote:That was rather harsh. I take it you still have the taste of shit in your mouth, that disgusting shit flavor that comes from a lifetime of not watching The Blues Brothers.
That Snarf thing was just painfully unfunny. I understood what they were trying to do, but they failed miserably.
I know I'm going to be disappointed IF I ever subject myself to it. Kinda like when I watched The Exorcist and Animal House.Rollo Tomassi wrote:If your not careful, you're going to build The Blues Brothers up too much and it'll never live up to expectations when he actually sits down to watch it.
