Not sure if we had a topic for the movie or not. Searching "The Road" was next to useless.

Finally...
The Road Will Finally Be Released on October 16th 2009

Dimension Films and 2929 Productions have finally announced that they will be releasing John Hillcoat’s adaptation of the Cormac McCarthy novel The Road, on October 16th 2009.

The film was originally set to debut during the 2008 Oscar season, but was supposedly pulled due to visual effects issues. Many speculated that the Weinsteins were starting to doubt the dark film’s award potential. Many had expected the film to be dumped in the first quarter dumping ground, but an October release shows that the studio still has some confidence in potential award consideration.

Academy Award nominee Viggo Mortensen, Academy Award winners Robert Duvall and Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce and 12-year-old Kodi Smit McPhee star in the the story of a man (Mortensen) and his young son (Smit-McPhee) traveling through a desperate, post-apocalyptic world. The flap jacket on the book describes the setting as “burned America”.

“Nothing moves in the ravaged landscape save the ash on the wind. It is cold enough to crack stones, and when the snow falls it is gray. The sky is dark.”

“Their destination is the coast, although they don’t know what, if anything, awaits them there.”

“They have nothing; just a pistol to defend themselves against the lawless bands that stalk the road, the clothes they are wearing, a cart of scavenged food—and each other.”

I'm still looking forward to seeing this. I was going to check it out in the theaters, but I think it had a limited release, and the shit kept getting pushed back if I remember correctly. Needless to say, I think the film had issues, editing or something. I dunno. It definitely hindered my expectations...

But I hope the movie is even half as good as the book. If so, I will probably be satisfied. I just hope I am not disappointed.

Trailer.

Looks good but there seems to be much more added with the wife than there was in the book.

Good lord. I thought this movie had already been in the theater. I thought the first post was pertaining to the DVD release - yes, I did not read the whole thing, obviously.

Yes, definitely seems like there is more focus on the wife, who was pretty non-existent in the novel, if I remember correctly.

But, I might be able to see this one in the theater yet. lol. Unreal. I used to be on top of this movie shit...

I saw this last week. Although it was a decent adaptation, I can't say it was better than the book. The book is so much more bleak.

i could never see them doing the book justice, since it's bad enough imagining the stuff in your head - seeing it just plastered on the screen would be too much for a LOT of people. my wife keeps saying she wants to read it and i keep saying "no, you don't".
