I go to a pretty liberal (I thought) church. Not politically liberal as opposed to mainstream society, but accepting of different people. This past Sunday, though, the preacher spoke out in favor of 8, and someone else made some anti-Arabic comments that were not only racist, but totally head-in-asshole ignorant. I should revise that sentence to "I WENT to a pretty liberal (I thought) church."

I'm getting a bunch of loony political calls (all on my answering machine so far, and all from Republicans). I have no issue with voting for a Republican, but, if you're leaving a message, give me something more convincing than "He's not a Democrat." There was one earlier today that said they were counting on my vote for McCain, 4, and 8, to protect our country, kids, and marriages. I walked in on that one and turned off the machine. Unfortunately, the number on the caller ID didn't work, and I was stupid and cut off the lady before she could've left a phone number. I really wanted to call back and make up some bullshit about how my brother was gay, and he died in the Twin Towers, and his boyfriend is still fighting to receive the military benefits normally granted to the spouses of deceased veterans.

Maybe I take it a bit more personally. Of all the people I've ever known, only a small handful have been gay, or at least openly gay. And only one of them is interested in marriage, but kinda thinks of himself as married anyway (he's in a state that doesn't recognize gay marriage), and hopefully there's not an issue with common property or visitation or whatever until far enough in the future for America to extract its collective head from its collective ass and clean the collective shit out of its collective ears.

But I can't help but think that the people who are so opposed to gay marriage because of a verse in Deuteronomy (which also mandates stoning for disobedient children, considers any skin infection to be grounds for banishment, and makes no bones about the superiority of men over women), well, they're the same people who would've said 30-40 years that a white guy shouldn't legally be able to marry an Asian woman for the same reason. Yeah, I'd have a real problem with that.

Here on the ballot in Colorado we have Amendment 48, which is causing a stir. It says that, as soon as a sperm meets an egg, that's a human being, so it will stop access to some forms of birth control. It's just retarded. There are a lot of hicks in this state so it might pass, but I really hope it doesn't. If it does, I'm gonna jack off onto a tampon and tell the government to give him his rights.
