Call me insane, and I know you all will, but I wish there was no Clerks 2. Kevin Smith was going to let that whole thing die and focus on more serious films. Unfortunately, Jersey Girl bombed hard because stupid morons the world over saw J-Ho and He-Who-Is-Named-After-The-Aflac-Duck and thought "Gigli II" because they're stupid and shouldn't breathe because they're wasting my oxygen, and so Kevin caved in to do more Clerks comedies, which will certainly get ridiculously old sometime within the next few years.

The Kevin Smith Appreciation Thread

With the first trailer for "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" on the very near horizon (tomorrow) I figured I'd start a general thread for all of Kevin Smith's movies.

Clerks (1994)
Mallrats (1995)
Chasing Amy (1997)
Dogma (1999)
Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)
Jersey Girl (2004)
Clerks 2 (2006)
Zack & Miri Make a Porno (2008)
Red State (next, a horror movie?) (2010)
Ranger Danger and the Danger Rangers (after Red State?)
Clerks: Cell Out (Animated Movie - eventually?)
Clerks Uncensored (AKA Clerks: The Animated Series) (2000-2001)
An Evening with Kevin Smith
An Evening with Kevin Smith 2: Evening Harder
Ect.

Discuss.

not to mention all the comics:

Clerks: The Comic Book
Clerks: Holiday Special
Clerks: The Lost Scene
Chasing Dogma

plus marvel knights daredevil, green arrow, spider-man and the black cat: the evil that men do, and the one-issue (read unfinished mini-series) daredevil/bullseye: the target.

sure this is the "movies" section, but suck it. it's my site.

Also his books, My Boring-Ass Life and Silent Bob Speaks.

And his numerous acting gigs and cameos.

I'll appreciate everything from Mallrats to Jersey Girl. Clerks I always found to be a bit overrated. Clerks II was him trying desperately hard to try to regain some of the glory he'd once enjoyed and failing so miserably it hurt to watch it. Sorry. There were a couple of funny moments to keep it from going into Transformers territory, but not enough to make it not bad.

I'm definitely going to wait for cable for Zach and Miri, simply because I don't want to pay money to see whether he remembered he could actually make good movies.

Also, if we're counting movies he appears in but didn't actually write and/or direct, the list gets pretty honkin' long. I don't know why. The man is not an actor by any stretch of the imagination. You don't see folks casting M Night Shyamalan in other flicks just because he likes to cast himself and can pull it off in his own movies because he knows what the end result should be.

The Red Band trailer for Zack and Miri Make A Porno has hit the 'net.

Looks damn good.
Being a Kevin Smith fan this sounds weird, but it looks much better than I was expecting.
With the exception of a few familiar faces and the Star Wars references it almost doesn't look like a Kevin Smith movie.
Smith's highest grossing movies thus far are Dogma and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, which each grossed approx. $30 million. I think this one has a good chance to go much higher, especially with "it" guy Seth Rogen. Based on the trailer I think that Craig Robinson will steal the show.

This was very low on my radar, but that trailer looks awesome. Star Whores . . . fuck, that'll be worth the price of admission.

I'm sick of Seth Rogen.

Agreed with Slea. The movie doesn't look bad, but Seth Rogen gets on my last fucking nerve, and Kevin Smith has been plummeting hard after that supposed Clerks sequel I'll have to just agree to disagree with all y'all about. Definite HBO movie.

Huh? This'll be his first thing since Clerks 2.

Yeah, but it retroactively gets worse, at least in my opinion. It was like this horrible mash of the original movie and the TV cartoon, which were totally different beasts, thrown together and trying too hard to make up for what a lot of his hardcore fans saw as a weak movie in Jersey Girl.
