Finally.... a chance to hook up my old systems!

With the purchase of our new TV, I've moved the old box downstairs. Almost instantly, I dug out my old, dirty box full of games & systems from eras long in the past... but was a bit disappointed at the number of missing cables I found (not sure what happened there, they might be in a box I haven't found yet).
Long story short, I've had my old Playstation and the Sega Saturn out for a spin lately. The fist Activision Spider-Man game for Playstation is still amazing! I got stuck on the second part, but am going to rekindle my efforts at beating it - sometimes a break is just what the doctor ordered.
Sitting there but useless right now are Mabs' old Super Nintendo (I have the hookups, but the games aren't starting for some reason - anyone got ideas?), my old Genesis, and a Nintendo 64 (which I apparently have no games for these days - another unpleasant surprise).
I'm looking at buying a used GameCube for $24.99 at Microplay - to me that's a steal of a deal.
The games I've looked at are still fun for the most part, but I have noticed one thing: my PS3 is capable of creating nicer looking graphics than these older machines.

That is a great price for a GameCube, but, if you're serious, I'd hold off and get the Wii. For one thing, you can download N64 games.

I wish I could do that, but my TV already has too much shit hooked up to it anyway with a DVD Player, Cable box, PS2 and Xbox 360. The other TVs in my house are too new to be compatible with my old SNES and N64, which I still have (and have no intention of giving them away).

I've got my N64 and Super NES hooked up downstairs.
Played some Super Mario Kart the other day, which isn't nearly as fun when I'm not whoopin' Cappy's ass.
My PS2 travels from room to room.

My N64 and original playstation are still hooked up. I also have a Sega Nomad, which plays Genisis games...mostly for NHL '97 and Columns before I go to bed.

Man, those NHL *insert year* games were the shit. Just cut across the net and use the backhand and you're golden.

I prefer the "Deke of Death" - on any breakaway, you just got close to the net, faked backhand and went back to forehand quick - red light.

i wish i still had my old consoles - had the NES and genesis. after that it was a 'cube and now the wii. so i guess it's like i have my old consoles again. but it's not exactly the same. with the wireless controllers, you don't get that instantaneous panic at almost pulling the console off the TV stand when you get too excited.

Or the wickedly painful "Nintendo Thumb."

no, there's no nintendo thumb, but my right pointer finger was numb for a few days after a rather intense session of spider-man 3 - wii finger is the new nintendo thumb.

Nothing like aggression-wear on videogame equipment - one of my PS2 controllers is partially separated from a particularly vigorous frustration "squeeze/twist" after having a kickoff run back against me.

I have one of those old school nintendo replicas. I need to pick up a few more games from back in the day- Mike Tyson's Punch Out and Double Dragon are two of the biggies.
As soon as I finish my God of War 2 no upgrade run, I'm going back to it. It's just too much fun.

fuckin Nintendo thumb was PAINFUL, fuck
JJ has my old SNES (which I SWEAR worked FINE Jimbo, seriously, when you got it) , I gave my PS1 to my buddy Johnny and I dunno where any of the older ones ended up, hopefully they're in a good place and being smacked regularly for non-performance
I still feel like playing Ice Hockey on NES from time to time- back in the day we built a league out of like a bunch of buddies and we got fuckin SCARY good at the fuckin game- anyone who wasn't in the league, even folks who were moderately good at it in their own minds would get the PISS knocked out of them by us... it was BAD, it took one of us like one period to score 30+ goals on the uninitiated and EVERY time the vanquished opponent would get angry and drop out before the 3rd..
We elevated it to such a high level that if one of us didn't play for a few days, it would really affect your ability to compete. LOL the 2 hour scoreless ties that we wvwntually worked our way up to were the cause of some SERIOUS nintendo thumb
