Overrated movies

I'm not going to make any friends with this one:
Blade Runner
Yeah, it's visually impressive. It is not the be-all-end-all of science fiction. Take away the visuals, and there's not much left. It's loosely based on Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, as in, "We just kept the basic idea of Androids." I saw this two or three times when I was younger. I don't remember much about it, except it looked good and Han Solo was in it.
Why the fuck do we need five different cuts of this fucking movie? One will do just fine.
Napoleon Dynamite
About as funny as a typical sitcom. It had some great moments, but none of them actually were because of Jon Heder or Napoleon. The other characters were a lot funnier, which means that they made me laugh once or twice. Everyone acts like it's the fucking second coming. It ain't.
The weird thing is, I think ND would've worked better cut down to an hour and used as a TV pilot. I could see the characters actually doing funny stuff, but the whole movie seemed like setup for something that never materialized.

Funny thing about "Napoleon"...I started out hating it, then I liked it, now I couldn't give a rat's ass about it.
As far as overrated movies go, one that comes to my mind is "Scarface". I think Denzel Washington said it best.
Denzel Washington wrote:"Scarface" gets more credit than it's worth. "Scarface" didn't change people. People were already living that. "Scarface" was just a good movie.
I also thought "Brokeback Mountain" was overrated when I saw it. When I watched it, I was thinking "Why the hell did this get nominated for awards? This is one of the most mediocre movies I have ever seen." And how did Heath "mumbles" Ledger get an Oscar nod for this?

As for Napoleon Dynamite, I loved it when it first came out. Then everyone had to jump on the bandwagon, and it lost something for me . . . I haven't seen it in a few years, so I dunno.

Agreed on both- I had heard SO much hype about ND then when I saw it all's I could think was that everone who'd recommended it SO highly might not be trustworthy as "reviewers" anymore, it was just SO MEH
Blade runner too, the book is AWESOME but the film covers about 10 of the original 200 pages and TOTALLY gets rid of the message of the original- I would be all for a proper re-make as really it's a great GREAT book- it'd beat A Scanner Darkly I'd wager
Escape from New York WHY this slow-paced, goofy largely boring and SILLY turd is revered while the MUCH superior (if only for the absolute ridiculousness of it, IMO they took the original and just made it kinda "openly" as stupid as the first one was "stealth like") sequel got PANNED for all the same flaws that are prominent in the first one is beyond me
Damn now I gotta think about my next submission- sp many films suck out loud these days that many don't even get phoney (like "paid") praise anywhere but in their own commercials
OH just remembered "The Blair Witch Project" NUFF SAID

I still like Napoleon Dynamite.
I agree on Scarface and Brokeback Mountain.
Fight Club was a waste of 2 hours.
Goodfellas (sorry Cappy) was good, but not that good.
Animal House was pretty meh, especially compared to today's comedies.
The Exorcist was boring as all hell.
And I'm assuming The Blues Brothers eats as much cock as the people that like the movie.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Sure, Spicoli's funny. And a lot of titties, including that classic Phoebe Cates scene. Other than that, this movie downright sucks.

Fixed. "DO YOU KNOW WHAT SHE DID??!! YOUR CUNTING DAUGHTER???!!!"
My uncle said that movie scared the hell out of him. I just laughed at him. There was nothing scary about that movie except for the two-second glimpse of Satan that looked like Christopher Walken.

The Exorcist is scary, unless you're totally desensitized to real horror and/or you're an atheist and the devil isn't scary to you.
Fight Club was cool, but very weird.
Blair Witch would've been great for one viewing, had they made one change. No one should've known going in that the kids died. There's no suspense at all, 'cause you know they're dead meat.
And I'll go hunting for some more shit for you, Diabolical. Seriously, man, if Blues Brothers were on TV, would you watch it then? They'd have to trim some language, but most of it should be intact. Or would you pass just because you think (wrongly) you're slighting me and not depriving yourself?

I don't know if I was really atheist yet (certainly not religious, though) when I saw The Exorcist several years ago - and it was on TV, so they cut out the worst stuff, I'm told - but yeah, I didn't really find it scary at all. As Double_G said, that little flash of the devil was scary, but just since you weren't expecting it.

Oh, yeah - it seems like everyone really loves Across the Universe, and keeps talking about it. It fucking pisses me off. I haven't seen it and won't; the very idea of it is just plain bad.

I've not heard much about it, aside from it sounding like Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, only filmed thirty years later.
If you don't know that, you're not missing much. Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees have to beat the evil Aerosmith in a battle of the bands, and George Burns sings. The only good thing to come out of it was Aerosmith's version of "Come Together."
