This movie is so going to fucking rock.

Rose McGowan with a machine gun for a prosthetic leg may be the coolest fucking thing in film history.

Even the fake trailers are going to rock.

That's right--"Machete" is just a fake trailer, right? With the possibility of being a feature if there's a Grindhouse 2, IIRC.

I just watched again and noticed that everything is all 1970s, except for the marquee that Snake Plisskin crashes through, advertising Scary Movie 4 and Wolf Creek.

I can't remember where I read the interview, but Tarantino said all these indie cult directors want to get in on the sequels.

I'd trust both Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez with my children, but this looks like shit to me.

Blasphemy! The Tarantino one looks alright, but Rodriguez's Planet Terror looks like it will fucking blow the doors off cult films.

I don't know, EP, I just have a bad feeling. I never watched that George Clooney vampire horseshit either (with Salma Hayek, you know, the one I can't remember the name of), because it looked like shit - and weren't both Tarantino and Rodriguez part of that thing? Yikes.

I can't decide whether to go to this thing first thing in the morning, or wait and go see it at the late, late show with all the crazy QT/RR fans.

I wanna see Rose McGowan's character on the "nekked" list. No clothes, and the gun strapped to her stump!

I posted my thoughts elsewhere, but to sum it up:
Planet Terror: Awesomeness.
Trailers: Awesomeness.
Death Proof: Crap.

I remember last year at Comic-Con, absolutely nothing was done for Death Proof. I was afraid it would be a super rush job. :(

This movie was a perfect pitch into the 70's, everything from the consession stand ads, the cheesy rainbow coming attraction/feature presentation segues, the film tears, the splices, the missing reels.

Rodriguez' Planet Terror was by far the better of the two films in terms of homaging the campy b-movie terror the two directors have stated they were going for. "Bad" dialogue, lingering dramatic pauses so the camera and/or soundtrack can beat the dramatis of the story over your head. Everyone in this movie was having fun doing it.

My initial reaction to Deathproof was that it was inferior to Planet Terror simply because it wasn't as B-Movie Spoof as the first part. To be honest, it felt like Tarantino forgot about halfway through DeathProof that he was doing an homage to schlocky 70's exploitation flicks and it just became a "normal" QT movie. The graniness went away, the spice cuts, etc, but then it occured to me that ALL QT's movies are basically homages to 70's exploitation flicks and this one was no different. In retrospect, I was amazed at how the movie reinvented itself, throughout the course of playing out. The first part with the girls, is completely different from the "Sex and the City" middle section of the film ( which itself is almost an homage to QT's opening scene in Res Dogs, just flipped on it's gender ear) and then the movie morphs yet again first into the sheer terror of the car chase, and then into full on Women Revenge movie. The sheer suddeness of the ending was Brilliant! I also liked how the "Original" title of DeathProof (Thunderbolt??) was spliced out and the cheap black title card with "DEATH PROOF" on it, was inserted. That was classic grindhouse.

It wasn't a better movie than the first half, but it did complement the other half. I thoroughly enjoyed both parts, and indeed the overall presentation complete with cheesy trailers.

Wow. This fucker tanked at the Box Office. Was it because of the three hour + running time? Or opening a Hard-R blood and guts movie on Easter Weekend?

Nope.

It's because of you guys. You didn't go see it like you should have.

BAD vynsaners. BAD. :x
