Am I the only person who's fucking sick of Borat already?

Seriously, come on. This is the same shit Yakov Smirnoff (sp?) did twenty years ago, and it wasn't fucking funny then!

All I've seen is what has been shown on TV and the ten pointless minutes of "idiot breaking shit in an antique store" and "two guys acting like they're fucking and blowing and salad-tossing one another" from Comic-Con. (Yes, I was serious about writing to Comic-Con to complain, and actually drafted the letter this morning. I'm all for free speech, and it doesn't offend me, but FUCK, warn people when this is shown at the preview for fucking Eragon, and sandwiched between Superman Returns and Stardust/Transformers.)

Yeah, this shit looks like dullsville. Everything I've seen is "ethnic humor," which gets old really fucking fast, and the guy's not even 10% as good at it as everybody I know seems to think he is.

Jagshemash!

High five! Is good! I like!

My friend lent me the Ali G show a few weeks ago. Funny stuff. Anybody that can get Boutros Boutros Gali and Koffi Annan to rap is funny.

I am definitely going to this one.

This British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, had a show on HBO where he posed as three different characters and interacted with real people.

Ali G, an ignorant hiphop gangsta
Bruno, a raging gay German fashionista
and Borat, a Khazakstani who is doing a PR film about America for his country.

There are plenty of uncomfortable situations because the people each character interviews doesn't know they are on the show, they think it's for whatever fake show the character is doing. You'd have to watch it.

Ali G has interviewed people like Newt Gingrich, C. Everett Koop, Donald Trump, etc. He also does roundtables with people about edgy topics like euthanasia, and religion, but the character is so ignorant he makes politically incorrect statements and pisses people off. It is actually quite funny.

The movie is his Borat character travelling across America. It causing a huge uproar because the Khazakstani government is pissed at the protrayal of their culture as backwards, sheep fuckers and Anti-Jewish. Cohen ( who is a Jew) is staying in character as Borat and offering rebuttals which are among other things, decidedly Anti-jew.

I'm making it sound horrible, but its quite humorous if you get the irony. You should definitely check it out before you pass judgment.

Did you happen to see the excrutiating ten minutes or so of preview at Comic-Con? This reeked of "trying too damned hard" more than the Coneheads movie.

oh, no, i know what it's about... i've seen bits and pieces of his show, and my friend talks about it all the time. i laughed my ass off at the trailer - i was just commenting at the fact that you guys had, like, this point/counterpoint SNL skit going on with those two posts where they were polar opposites, and i was just commenting on the confusing aspect of two posts that were so polarized that didn't really engage one-another as a discussion... more like reading two separate reviews of a movie from different newspapers... it was like hearing two people talk about ham sandwiches, thusly:

person a:

Code: Select all

ham sandwiches are bad
person b:

Code: Select all

ham sandwiches are good
:bj: :???:

Holy crap, I just noticed the code for that smiley was BJ! That's hilarious!

Funnier than this Borat shit, at any rate. But Dell Rusk is funnier than Borat.

I love Borat: Kazzaks are so stupid! I love how this Borat guy thinks he's being a true-American when he's only being a true-fool.

It's a good thing that there's a war in Kazzakstan (I could never spell it right!) so we can kill as many of these Jew-haters as we can.

And then we can kill all the Jew-lovers too.

I hadn't seen much of Borat or Ali G for that matter - I saw more of Sacha Baron Cohen in Talledega Nights to be perfectly honest. That being said, the line "Her vay-geen.... it hangs like the sleeve of a wizard's cloak." has been indellably entered into my mental "all-time funniest bullshit EVER" storage area.

I thought this movie was hilarious. I was sick of seeing shit about this but when I finally saw it (and then bought it) I loved it.

Now I'm always saying "romance explosion", "sexy time", and "very niiiiiiice".

I, too, saw this recently and kinda laughed my ass off- my mom had this hungarian buddy in the 80's, real recently immigrated, and he was almost a dead-ringer for Borat- no-one believes me that there's REAL people like Borat, but it's true, and that is what made it so DAMN funny for me I think

I like :mabs:
