Other than the rush of comics just afterward, has 9/11 been mentioned or used story-wise much in the Marvel U?

I can think of one MK Punisher that mentioned it.
The MAX title mentioned it a few times but that was out of continuity.

This week's haul:

5 Ronin #1: Wolverine & #2: Hulk - Alternate takes of Marvel characters in feudal Japan. They all seem to be one-shots, rather than an actual mini-series. The only connection is one minor character (and they give away his identity in the ad with the covers for the rest of the series). Next week is The Punisher, so naturally I'm looking forward to that.

Batman & Robin #21 - I said the same thing Rollo did when I saw that sweet splash page.

I, Zombie #11 - Zombies, ghosts, werewolves, vampires, mummies. Its got it all and never takes itself too seriously.

Jennifer Blood #2 - Ennis' housewife with a vengeance story reads a lot like his Punisher Max stories.

Punisher Max #11 - Disappointing ending to the Bullseye arc. It still feels like the MK title with swearing, and I realize its not just Dillon's cartoonish art; Aaron's writing just doesn't make this feel like a "real world" story. It feels more like Itchy & Scratchy. The part of the fight between Frank and Bullseye that we don't see is the perfect example. They tumble into a part of the building under construction and then cut away to Kingpin's goons. When we next see Bullseye, he is holding one of Frank's fingers and has a couple of nails sticking out of his head.

You know what kinda bugs me about that 5 Ronin series? The variant chase covers look soooo much nicer than the regular ones. I wish they'd made those the main covers.

25 books this week, because one of them was a dollar!

Amazing Spidey 656. Spidey is without his Spider-Sense and keeps crashing and takes a bullet in the arm, so he concocts a new updated Spider Armor that shoots magnetic webbing to fight a deranged maniac killer named Massacre. Some really nice heroic Spidey moments here. And excellent Marcos Martin art.

Atomic Robo 4. What can I say? Those of you who read it, high five. Those who don't. Eh. pissoff.

Avengers Academy 11. Mist tries to ressurrect Wasp and instead brings back Korvac, the omnipotent Avenger villain from the 70s (well one of the omnipotent villains...Marvel has way too many of those guys, Molecule Man, Brian and Betsy Braddock's brother, Proteus, etc.) Anyway, the guy's wife shows all the Academy-ers how they'll look in the future. And there's some metatextual funny about Reptil being in the Avengers cartoon. Good stuff.

Young Avengers oneshot. The Young Avengers are the Avengers of the future and they send Iron Lad (aka Teenage Kang) back to the past to "save" them, which is part of the Children's Crusade maxi series. Kinda sorta takes place between C'sC 4 and 5. Alan Davis draws awesome.

Azrael 18. Final issue. Azrael teams up with RasAl Ghul because Gotham is a cesspool and needs a cleansin' like a fat guy's colon...leads into...
Batman 708. Azrael shows up and stabs Dick in the chest with his mystic blade. Red Robin and Catwoman show up to help, and Dick will return the favor when this crossover event hits their books in the coming weeks.

Brightest Day 22. Professor Stein is the latest casualty in Geoff Johns opus to kill off every DC character except the ones he thinks are kewl.

Captain America and Crossbones oneshot. Cap's nowhere to be seen except in a flashback when CB shot him. Mostly this is a farfetched tale about a secret govt cabal breaking Rumlow out of prison, so they can give him a bunch of guns and drop him into a foreign country where he'll do their bidding just because they asked. Interspersed with flashback to how he became Red Skulls head thug. Didn't suck, but nothing remarkable here.

Formic Wars 3. The bugs attack some ships in the asteroid belt and kill off a bunch of the characters we've been introduced to thus far.

Fear Itself Prologue. Red Skull's daughter and Baron Zemo track down one of the hammers from the big Summer Event. then Sin backstabs Zemo and leaves him in the desert. Here's hoping he fucks that bitch up.

5 Ronin Punisher. A samurai comes home from a three year campaign in Korea to find his wife and son dead and his home destroyed. Since he's fuedal Japan version of Frank, he finds the fuckers who did it and kills them all, with the help of a sneeze from that unnamed but obvious character 'bolical mentioned.

GIJoe Infestation 2. Psyche-Out takes one for the team. And by that, I mean he dies. Baroness, however, is crafty and survives.

GIJoe Hundred Penny Press 1. Reprint of the classic first Marvel issue for only a buck. Its a primer to pimp IDWs Trade collections.

Hulk 30 Needed a couple extra books to round up, and I wasn't getting Venom 1. Impossible Man combines Red and Green Hulk into a composite Hulk to fight Xemnu the Titan and a bunch of other nostalgic Tales of Suspense monsters from the 50s.

Hulk 30.1 Everybody thinks Thunderbolt Ross is dead, and the Red Hulk killed him. So the new Hulkbuster General Fortean attacks the Red Hulk with all the fervor of his former commander and mentor, not realizing they're the same guy. irony is a bitch.

Iceman and Angel oneshot. Similar to the Magento, Jean Grey, and Cyclops one shot, this is kinda quasi First Class continuity. But it's written by BRIAN CLEVINGER and he brings the funny. Bobby and Warren fight a giant Goom from Planet X (another nostalic monster from the 50s!) wreaking havok in NYC. turns out he's looking for his kid who's enrolled in college. Don't think about that too hard, its a humorous issue, with Bobby thinking how cool Angel would be with metal wings that shoot knives...Witty Clevinger dialogue all around.

Iron Man 502. Stark continues to trade barbs with Doc Ock as he tries to save Ock's life. Meanwhile Pepper beats up Sandman and Electro. Another fine issue by Fraction. thats like 36 in a row for those keeping count.

Iron Man 2.0 2. Meanwhile Rhodey gets pwned by some new baddie then gets a nuke dropped on him. Awesome last page.

Legacies 10. final issue of the DC history retold by a senile old ex-cop in a nursing home. Kinda weak finale. In retrospect, this is a book I could've skipped and found in the dollar bins. Oh well.

Red Robin 21. Red Robin continues to fight crime in the Unternet, an evil internet created by Darkseid way back during Final Crisis. It makes not much sense.

Superman 709. Superman is still walking across America. He's made it to Colorado. And the Flash drops by to chitchat over pie and coffee. Thats not a metaphor.

Thunderbolts 155. Luke Cage decides to recruit Satana, daughter of Satan, and sister of Hellstrom, to be his team's "magic" person. Dr. Strange helps out. And Songbird recruits like 30 new badguys to train as the Next TBolts.

X-Factor 217. Hizzoner J Jonah Jameson gives an impassioned speech about hatred towards Muslims and Mutants alike in this issue. And Strong Guy gets shot in the stomach. ohh! Cliffhanger ending!

Uncanny X-Force 5.1 UXF fights the Reavers and Lady Deathstrike in the abandoned australian town that used to be the X-Men's homebase. Once again Remender does no research into his characters, because he uses Cole, Macon, Reese, Prettyboy, the original Skullgrin, and Bonebreaker as his Reavers. Who were all killed by Claremont in his original run. So there you go.

Uncanny X-Men Annual 3. Didn't read it yet, but it ties in with the Steve Rogers Annual and Namor Annual coming soon.

Damn, IDW is bordering on Devil's Due levels of Joe bloodbath. Probably surpassing it with the number of "Cool Breezes" they've had. I know it's more realistic to a point, but then it gets to a point where you wonder if these guys really are the best of the best, or if Hawk's been hiring at the local 7-11.

Got Shazam: The Monster Society of Evil at the library.

I think I want to have a sex change so I can bear Jeff Smith's children. This book is awesome.

Checked out and read "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader."

Damn.

Neil Gaiman is fucking awesome.

I didn't realize he'd written the Secret Origins stuff that's reprinted in it, though. That SO Special was one of my first Batman comics ever. Reading it as an adult, with a better knowledge of what Gaiman's getting at with the Riddler, made it a much, much better read than before. And it was already awesome when I was a kid.

Unless I'm wrong, that'd be the only time Marsha, Queen of Diamonds, was even mentioned in a Batman comic.

Batman Inc 4. Didn't read it yet. But it's Morrison, so I can only assume its whatever he felt like writing that day, Batman goes to a dogshow or carves cheese wheels or pooped cottoncandy or something.

Batman The Dark Knight 2. This book seems to be coming out once every six months or so. the art is pretty but the story is fairly bland so far.

Captain America 615.1. A "stand alone" issue. Some new guy puts on the Captain America costume and almost gets his butt handed to him. Steve steps in and the guy says that somebody needs to be a Cap. Turns out Nick Fury is pulling strings to get Steve back in the uniform. Probably has something to do with the movie coming out. Can't confuse new readers now can we. Heh. New Readers.. HA HA Heee hee he hmmmmm....heh.

Captain America Comics 1. A Reprint of the 1940s issue. With a new cover.

Captain America and Batroc oneshot. Another in a series of oneshots. This one is told from Batroc's POV about what it means to be the guy who fights Cap.

Daredevil Reborn 3. Another rockin' issue. Matt realizes its just not in him to walk away from heroing. then he gets shot in the head.

Speaker for the Dead 3. Continuing the adaptation of the Orson Card book.

FF 1. Sets up the new direction. Johnny puts in his will that Peter Parker replace him on the team and more importantly, the team keep going. And Val's promise to Doom is fulfilled as he joins the Future Foundation. Excellence from Hickman continues.

5 Ronin: Psylocke. Psylocke is a concubine who can read the "tells" of men and size them up. She ends up shagging Logan (from issue 1) for half the issue.

GIJoe ARAH 164. Snake-Eyes vs Stormshadow! Cobra breaks Baroness out of the Pit! A minor peeve. They showed Hama's original sketch for Trimpe's cover as the RI cover and a certain watertower is much more prominent in the original cover. Now its barely there and mostly hidden behind Stormshadow in the foreground.

Green Lantern 64. Didn't read it yet. Part one of the Green Lantern War.

Green Lantern Corps 58. Didn't read it yet. Part 2.

Hulk 31. Red Hulk steals some barbecue from some Texans. And they introduce a new A.I.M. villain.

Justice League of America 55. Doomsday is back! He's going after all the "Reign of Supermen" players in reverse order. Steel went down in his oneshot. Eradicator got beat in Outsiders. Now Cyborg Superman is under attack. Next is Superboy and the big finale in Action Comics 900. Rematch with Superman!!

Justice League Gen Lost 22. The original Batman (who was "dead" when all this Brightest Day nonsense started) is back. And he remembers who Max Lord is. That was a bitchin' splash page. Batman is kewl.

Namor 8. The end of the Hell storyline. And my final issue. Just not compelling. I'll get the rest of the issues (I predict there won't be too many more) in the dollar bins.

New Mutants 23. part 4 of Age of X. This crossover is very very very good. Magneto, Legacy(Rogue), Basilisk(Cyclops), Gambit, and others are starting to figure out things aren't right.

Silver Surfer 2. From a five issue series down to four. Not a good sign. And Norrin spends the entire issue being very unsilvery and experiencing "water" and such. Bored to tears. Not going to bother with the last two issues.

Thor 620.1. Another "point 1" issue. With excellent art by Mark Brooks, and a decent story by DnA, this was a pretty good issue, but the point of the "jumping on" issues is just ridiculous when you consider 1)next month is the final issue of the book 2) this was not by the regular writing/art team (as they pitched the "point 1" issues), why even bother with a "point1" issu...oh thats right. its a money grubbing scheme. Dur-hay.

Transformers Heart of Darkness 1.I thought this was a oneshot, but its actually a miniseries. Galvatron, Cyclonus, Scourge, and Jhiaxus following up the "dead universe" plot threads from the Revelation story.

Wolverine and Jubilee 3. More Vampire BS. Although the scene where the Young X-Men kids were watching Jeopardy was funny.

Ultimate Spider-Man 156. Didn't read it yet, but it was promoted as the Death of Spider-Man, and at the end...he wasn't dead. Meh.

Uncanny X-Force 6. Less craptacular than usual, as Deathlok ( I guess this is the one from Jason Aaron's run, where the AI is altruistic, and the humon component is a scumbag) helps the UXF fight the futuristic cyborg heroes of the future.

Uncanny X-Men 534. The end of the Quaratine arc. Cyclops and the rest of the X-Men show up and whup on Lobe and his Sublime Corp. cronies. One of the "new" X-Men gets away with a bag of inhalers. I predict she will be the new Mimic. Also Fraction's last issue. Keiron Gillen takes over the book next month.

Galvatron is in the Wolverine & Jubilee issue? Holy crap!

But, really, you're going to complain about a Trimpe cover? Oh, well, if the "certain watertower" you mention is the one I'm thinking of, somewhere in Manhattan, then I can see that. That place has history, man!

Yeah, I wouldn't have even noticed on the actual cover if I hadn't seen the sketch inside and thought "awwww...dammit". And I think if Hama had conveyed to Trimpe that the tower was significant, he would've drawn it more prominently, but I imagine he just thought it was background scenery.

At one point Trimpe would've remembered its significance. But you can't blame the dude for forgetting after two decades. Hell, even Hama makes a reference to Sneak Peek in the preview for this issue (and, I assume, it made it into the issue), when he's been dead for just as long.

Unrelated, but I forgot how important Muskrat was for a year or so in the comic book. I totally want to use some spare parts and make him now. He should be easy. Daina, not so much.

I think SneakPeek is IN the issue. Which I also noticed because I also remembeed he had died. But I'll let some nerdier fanboy write in to IDW and complain.

Interesting. Especially since he was the only guy to die in the issue where he bought the farm, right? It's not like he was in one of those crowd scenes where a SAW Viper mows down an entire group.

More interesting that everyone seems to have trouble remembering Sneak Peek is dead. IIRC, Devil's Due assigned a new character that codename, and Scarlett acted like she had no idea who Sneak Peek was in the first place, despite serving with him on a couple of important missions.

yayyy Nationalism!! Mark Millar is still a self-promoting wank douche.

But enough about that peckerwood. Here's what I bought this week.

Amazing Spidey 657. Spidey and the FF reminisce about Johnny Storm and Peter is asked to join the team. Now, this was a good issue, but 2 minor peeves. Peter's "tone" in his e-mail (and the FF's responses) on the recap page made for a rather awkward set up for the issue. And the cover was wonderful, except the placement of the damn barcode.

Avengers 11. The Hood fights Thor, Red Hulk and Iron Man over the Infinty Gems. Then steals the Mind Gem from Professor X (douche). Then inexplicably, Thanos shows up to steal the Soul Gem from Dr. Strange. Uhmmm...memo to Bendis? RE:Thanos. Read other Marvel books much?

Secret Avengers 11. The secret history of John Steele. Does Brubaker really need to waste two issues of a a $4 dollar book exploring some d-list Golden Age hero he has a hardon for?

Detective Comics 875. Commissioner Gordon deals with a serial pedophile murderer while attempting to make sense of his own son's sociopathy.

Captain America 616. HUGE 70th anniversary issue. Nice cover by Travis Charest (yeah, that guy still occasionally works). And several good stories inside, but the best page was where they had tracked down some fan commisioned artwork sketches by the late Jim Aparo and Curt Swan, who had never officially worked on Captain America. What might have been.

Captain America and Secret Avengers oneshot. A oneshot focusing on Sharon Carter and Black Widow fighting some new terrorist organisation that trains young girls to be assassins. Nothing noteworthy.

Deadpool Team-Up 883. Final issue. (sniffle) But DPTU goes out with a bang by becoming Galactus' Herald for a few hours before the Big G can't stand his yammering anymore. “You eat planets?” “Yes” “That’s Gangster.” Laughably, Wade also buys the Love Actually DVD at WalMart. “It’s got a great cast. don’t judge me.” he he True Dat, Wade.

Speaker for the Dead 1. Missed this last month. Anybody who hasn’t read the Ender books is sorely missing out.

5 Ronin Deadpool. Deadpool’s tale wraps up this mini series. After Deadpool kills the Daiyamo, the other Ronin (Wolverine, Hulk, Punisher, and Psylocke) have to reassess their goals in life now that their one reason for living has been fulfilled, but not at their hands.

Gotham City Sirens 21. Harley breaks into Arkham to kill Joker with an unsatisfying (and inevitable) “twist” at the end.

Green Lantern Emerald Warriors 8. Part 3 of the “War of the Gls”. haven’t read it yet. Waiting to read the whole thing in one go.

Punisher:In the Blood 5. Certainly not as gawdawful as the earlier issues, but when the fuck would Frank sit around and let Jigsaw monologue for page after page? And not just put a bullet in his skull on page one? Thankfully this mess is ended and Greg Rucka can kick some ass on Punisher this summer.

The Stand: No Man's Land 3. The epic continues with beautiful Mike Perkins art.

Action Comics 899. Lex Luthor is “shocked” to discover Brainiac has been manipulating him for the past 12 issues. Except…NOPE. Lex Luthor is no dummy and had Brainiac figured from day one. So he soundly beats the A.I.s ass in space. Leads into next months Action 900. Which got here the hard way, and not like Deadpool and Wolverine. Cheaters.

Teen Titans 93. A new Titan is introduced. Her name is Solstice and she’s hindu or something. I bet Geoff Johns is salivating at the thought of killing her off in his next big event.

Thor 621. The final issue (again). Book reverts to its Journey into Mystery roots for the third time with the next issue, and Thor gets a brand spanking new number one in time for his big movie debut. Oh, and the Asgardians defeat them pesky badguys.

Wolverine 7. A possessed Wolvie continues to fight his X-Buddies. Acuna’s art is not right for this arc. I don’t dislike him perse, but it just doesn’t feel right on this story.

Wonder Woman 609. Wonder Woman has her origin explained to her by her nemesis Dr. Psycho, then she wakes up from a coma? Was this entire story a dream? Wow. Lame.

X-23 8. The first part of a crossover with Daken. Since I could give a shit and this series hasn’t been wowing me, I think I’m done. I can sense when a book is going to get canned (especially in this market) and I can find the remaining few issues in the dollar bins.

Age of X Universe 1. A look at a darker version of the Avengers in the "Age of X"verse that are dedicated Mutant hunters and their reasons for doing so. Also, a tale of Spider-Man helping his pregnant wife MJ escape the mutant hunters by sacrificing himself.
