Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
Batman & Robin #15 - Great ending.
Daredevil #511 - Another episode of Foggy and Dakota.
Highland Laddie 3 - Haven't read it yet.
Kick-Ass 2 #1 - The logical progression of the first series.
Morning Glories #3 - Still waiting on issue #1 before I read it.
Punisher Max: Tiny Ugly World One-Shot - Decent one-shot. At least Frank is in it for more than 2 or 3 pages this time.

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
Batman & Robin 15 Regardless of what you think of the whole Morrison "revamp" of the bat titles, the last page is about the coolest fucking thing ever. I got chills when I turned the page. And I want that page made into a poster.
Bruce Wayne:Road Home Catwoman and Commish Gordon one shots These were both fairly mediocre.
Booster Gold 37 Imagine Blue Beetle as a tiny chipmonk, written by the classic JLI team of Giffen and DeMatties. Funny stuff. I wish more of the DCU could be this lighthearted.
Brightest Day 12 blah blahblah blah a long boring tirade about Martian Manhunter, then a lot more boring tirade about Firestorm. I about blacked out from exposition.
Carnage 1 Beautiful art(and cover) by Clayton Crain and a good story by Zeb Wells with Spidey and Iron Man. Aside from the fact they are bringing Carnage back, this is a good book so far.
Chaos War 2 You know you are in some serious shit when you have to recruit Galactus to your team...and he accepts. The premise is so ridiculously over the top its actually entertaining.
Daredevil 511 Carlos is confirmed dead in the opening page text. The rest was garbage.
GIJoe ARAH 159 Lots of action in this one and an interesting final page premise. SnakeEyes brainwashed as a Cobra Ninja vs Joe Stormshadow...
Green Lantern Corps 53 Kyle and Sinestro vs some lame new baddie.
JLA 50 More boring crap from James Robinson. I was hoping a 50th issue might offer some decent story, but all we got was a cheap Darkseid ripoff.
Legacies 6 Recapping the Crisis for a second issue.
New Mutants 18 The NMs square off against the Inferno babies and get their asses handed to them.
Punisher Tiny Ugly World oneshot These Punisher oneshots are just boiling down to coming up with a depraved character and storyline, and having the Punisher show up for a page or two to justify the cover. This one, by Dave Lapham, is about a deviant who was [abused] by his mother as a young boy. Then she cut off his pecker and put it in a jar and then killed herself. Now hes all grown up and SUPRISE is maladjusted.
Shadowland Powerman 3Decent, but not spectacular.
The Stand: Hardcases 4 This series continues to rock.
Superman/Batman 57 Supergirl and the new bratty Robin team up to fight Scarecrow in this issue. It must be fun to write Damian. He's like an 8 year old House.
TF: Drift 4 Its over. A weak series.
X-23 2 I would rather they avoid the Wolverine In Hell stuff and just focus on the character of Laura. Despite the lame 'Wolvie Clone' bullshit, she's an interesting character with potential. As opposed to her mullet/mohawk wearing "brother" with a lame new costume, who also happens to be gay.
X-Factor 210 A fun, quirky issue with Rahne and Rictor discussing their baby (even though its not his baby, but he don't know that), Rictor's sexuality, and other assorted things.

Haven't picked up the ongoing, but I agree the character has a ton of potential, or at least had a ton of potential.Rollo Tomassi wrote:X-23 2 I would rather they avoid the Wolverine In Hell stuff and just focus on the character of Laura. She was great in NYX and pretty good in the both X23 minis, but from what little I've read (or read about in those free Saga catch-up books) they've really gone too far from what the character was for me to care anymore.

The first X23 series was great.
I never got a chance to read the second one, but I'm keeping an eye out for it when I go to Cons.
Now that they've established the character with connections to the X-students as well as the X-Force series that's where the potential lies. How does a killing machine live as a 'normal' teenage girl?

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
I bought more books than usual this week because I splurged and picked up one extra book which in retrospect I could have skipped. But as I had 17 books, I rounded it up to twenty. So there's more questionable purchases than usual. But at least I avoided Green Arrow.
Amazing Spidey 646 The finale of the kidnapped Osborn Baby saga. Complete with copout ending. Harry was the father all along. Thus ends the thrice weekly experiment in ASM.
Avengers 6The Humongous Gigantic Extravagant time travel adventure that threatens ALL the omniverse...ends with a whimper. Really? A thirty second chat with Ultron to convince him to commit suicide? Really?
Secret Avengers 6 If you're not aware, Shang-Chi, the master of kung-fu's father is the classic literary and film villain Fu Manchu. Except now Marvel can't legally use that name in the context of being a Marvel Character and one of their characters' father. So they tiptoe around it whenever discussing Shang-Chi and his deceased parent. Except now they are bringing said deceased parent back to life. But they can't use his name. For legal reasons.
Bruce Wayne: Oracle and Ras Al Ghul oneshots Ultimately this series of oneshots was underwhelming.
Captain America 611 Bucky goes on trial for being the Soviet Assassin Winter Soldier for all those years. Black Widow and Tony Stark tell Hawkeye that Bucky didn't kill Kennedy. The CIA did. And that Kennedy was a skrull. I laughed my ass off.
Fantastic Four 584 Only two more issues until somebody DIES! (my money is on Sue Storm BTW) In this issue Ben gets turned back into a human. Which would be more dramatic if it hadnt happened several times throughout the history of the series. Their making it like this was the first time.
GIJoe Cobra 9 After five issues of buildup this was kinda a weaksauce ending.
JLA/The 99 1 This was one of the extra books. Assuming I have no idea who or what this "99" is like most comic readers in this country, its a shame they spent so much of this issue focusing on the Justice League. Who are all complete squares by the way. FYI the 99 is a Muslim Super Team thats very popular in the middle east and this is their first major crossover/exposure to western readers via a co-publisher crossover between DC and Teshkeel. A splendid notion and effort that is executed poorly.
Justice League Gen Lost 12 We delve into Ice's history as she goes crazy and tries to kill Fire and Rocket Red. A good read.
Secret Warriors 21 Holy crap! After thieir teammate's betrayal last issue, the team is in their fight of their lives and Alex(Phobos, the son of Ares) gets into an epic swordfight with the Gorgon. Another shocking ending in a series that's full of them. Only a handful of issues remain in this epicly awesome series.
Shadowland Moon Knight 3 A huge step backwards for the character in my opinion.
Spider-Man Saga freebie Catching everyone up on the past couple years of Spidey Continuity, just in time for Dan Slott's run on the series. Hey vyn, can you tell me when the part about the girls in the Spidey Fan Club took place? I have no recollection of that from the past three years. Was that a mini-series I missed?
Spider-Man vs Vampires oneshot Collected stories from a webcomic. Kevin Grievoux wrote it. Which is another way of saying it sucked.
Superman 704 An interlude from Supes walk across America focuses on Lois meeting her college sweetheart and his new wife and children. One of those "grass is greener" stories.
Action Comics 894 Lex Luthor meets Death, the cutie patootie teen from the Vertigo Sandman series. Proof that DC is scraping the barrel for ideas.
Teen Titans 88 Hey, this was one of the extra issue I got and I was pleasantly suprised the team isn't wallowing in emo anymore. And since Damian Wayne shows up on the last page to "lead" the team, I'm showing up next issue. Because its going to be a hoot watching that little asshole interact with the rest of the team, barking orders at them and such.
Thunderbolts 149 Take a once great book that is now weaksauce and dip it into a weakass crossover event (Shadowland) as a peripheral tie-in issue and you get TBolts 149.
Wonder Woman 604 WW fights some guy and gets her Lasso of Truth.
X-Men Legacy 241 The conclusion of the fantastic storyline.
Uncanny X-men 529 Hope finds her last "light" and Emma enlists Fantomex to help her and a permanently phased Kitty Pryde break Sebastian Shaw out of the X-Men's brig. And Madison Jeffries hits on Danger, the sentient computer and former DangerRoom. its like the Vision and Scarlet Witch all over again.

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
I think I actually have a real issue of 'the 99' somewhere...
as for the 'girls in the spidey fanclub' - not sure, any greater exposition than that? a quick search reveals what might be the source: 'peter parker' #3, which was originally a webcomic turned floppy.

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
I bought a Disney Princesses comic from Target's $1 rack today. They had a Cars one, too, but it was a reprint of an earlier volume she got, also from Target for $1, a few months ago.
Not a big deal, it may seem, but that's pretty damned close to the only place remaining where kids actually will be, and will see comics, and they'll be cheap enough for them to buy (or get their parents to buy).

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
Amazing Spidey 647 The giant sized ending to the BND cycle in Amazing Spidey. I rather enjoyed Harry beating the crap out of Vin Gonsalez after he threatened his new baby. For $5 I rather enjoyed the entire thing.
Avengers Academy 6 This issue focused on Reptil (the guy from the SuperHero Squad cartoon who is now also in regular continuity.) This book continues to be excellent.
Batman & Robin 16 What. The. Fuck. I can't even begin to fathom the final announcement on the last page of Morrison's run on this particular title. Other than to say he fuckin' ripped off my idea I laid out somewhere on this forum a while back. So at least we know Grant trolls vynsane.com...
Brightest Day 13 The halfway point of the series. Villains were droning on about the headache inducing continuity of the Hawkman and Hawkwoman. I dozed off.
Chaos War 3 Galactus fighting a deceased Zues. Pure comic fluff, but a fun read.
Generation Hope 1 Apparently the new X-team is fighting Akira from the classic Japan Anime film. Seriously, if the page has been posted, google it.
GIJoe 24 Another cool issue as the Cobra and Joe teams dance closer to an actual full on confrontation. its going to be epic. I love this series.
Hawkeye/Mockingbird 6 Final issue. Awhile back I predicted all the new Marvel books (specifically this one, Young Allies, Agents of Atlas, and Black Widow) would be gone by the end of the year. BW ends next month and I will be four for four.
Iron Man/Thor 1 Baron Mordo, Crimson Dynamo, Ulik the Troll, and High Evolutionary in a Thor/IM book written by Abnett and Lanning is nothing but awesome.
Jonah Hex 61 A tale of Jonah and his wife. Decent but not as good as other issues in the series.
Namor 3 Namor continues to fight the evil underwater vampires who we find out in the shocking last page reveal are led by Namor's dead grandfather, the legendary King Thakorr. Vampires suck.
Official Index of the Marvel U 7 More goofiness about Thor, Cap, and the Avengers.
Punisher: In the Blood 1Not great, but at least Frank is back to normal.
Secret Six 27 The Six continue their assault (or defense of, depending on which side you are rooting for) of Skartaris.
Superboy 1 An underwhelming reboot of the series with a contrived visit from the Phantom Stranger portenting doom, a fight with the Parasite, and a visit from Poison Ivy (as a potential ally?). Nothing really jumped out at me in this one. DC is touting Jeff Lemire as their new golden boy writer, I hope he doesn't turn into James Robinson part deux.
Wolverine 3 Wolverine continues to be tortured in hell. Why do all "devils" talk in the smug faux polite egotistical eurotrash manner? However, the final page teases a Colossus/Wolverine throwdown that should be awesome.

Batman & Robin #16 - Great, familiar sounding last page few pages.
The Boys #48 - This series feel like Bendis' run on Daredevil, where not a lot happens, but it always feels like it's building toward something big.
Incognito: Bad Influences #1 - Even though the issue jumps forward several months after the conclusion of the first mini-series and makes it seem like I completely missed a mini-series or four (due to the "Here's what happened since..." mid issue recap), I don't mind, because its so damn good.
I, Zombie #7 - Not my usual cup of tea, but I like this series. Nothing too serious and has a few slightly different takes on the supernatural.
Punisher: In The Blood #1 - Frank seems a little too cold towards Henry. I realize Frank is still getting his shit together mentally and physically, but still. And the chick he fights better not be who I think it is.
Scarlet #3 - Marvel's Icon imprint is probably the best thing they have going right now. Kick-Ass, Criminal, Incognito and Scarlet are all amazing comics. It's just too bad the release schedule is so wacky. Maleev's art is sick. I can't help but wonder if he uses someone as reference for Scarlet.
And more of the various #1 for $1 issues.

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
Amazing Spidey 648 "Big Time" begins! ASM goes from thrice monthly to bi-weekly as Dan Slott takes over writing. This issue was a lot of fun as Slott likes to get almost meta in his story telling. The Andru Air Force Base pun had me giggling. And Peter touches base with some older supporting characters and finally gets a decent new job (although I liked the Science Teacher idea. It had a nice symmetry to it). Hobgoblin also returns. I also use to hate Humerto Ramos' art as it was uber cartoony, but in this new 'lighter' Spipdey era it fits. A solid read for $4.
New Avengers 6 Who didn't see that coming? Brother Voodoo, marginalized superhero and current Sorceror Supreme gets killed off.
Young Avengers 3 The Y'avs and their quasi-partner Magneto head off to Latveria. After several years of being off the grid (seven by my count!) Scarlet Witch shows up again...as the fiance of Dr. Doom?! Heinberg and Chueng really aim for the bleachers, don't they?
Avengers Prime 4 The more I read this series, the more it feels like it could have been a oneshot and not FIVE issues. Apart from the great Alan Davis art, its just telescoped to hell. Oh, and Bendis decided that Patsy "Hellcat" Walker gave it up for Thor, when he admits he "might've hit that". Whats up with Marvel writers retconning their heroines into sluts?
Batgirl 15 Batgirl is wanted for murder!!
Return of Bruce Wayne 6 What? What the fuck is th--ARRRGH! I just can't-- Seriously what the fuck is up with Grant Morrison's epileptic writing and why the fuck do I keep dropping money on it? FUCK. YOU. Sir.
Birds of Prey 6 The Huntress gets into a fight to the death with Lady Shiva. And she fights dirty. But nobody actually gets to the "death" part of the fight.
Chaos War:Thor 1 Tie in issue that seems like a point of view of a normal person watching the events. i only skimmed it.
GIJoe ARAH 160 Snake Eyes gets brainwashed by Cobra! Stormshadow rejoins GIJoe! This is the kind of awesome Joe writing I expect for Mr. Hama. And Cobra Commander continues to use really big obscure words! Ahhh, its like I'm 13 years old again.
GIJoe Origins 21Dave Lapham continues his story of a Cobra recruit. Like most Lapham its dark and disturbing.
GL Emerald Warriors 4 Guy and his team try to track down Sodam Yat. Decent but nothing compelling here.
Justice League Gen Lost 13The halfway point of the series has a huge fight between Magog and Catain Atom. And ends with Magog EXPLODING (so much for that character in the DCU) and Maxwell manipulating everyone into thinking Atom blew his damn head off. ( although how does Max Lord manipulating people's minds transate into manipulating celphone camera footage? i don't get that part)
Red Robin 17 Hey, cool! Cassandra Cain shows up even if its just for a few panels. Lonnie "MoneySpider" Machlin also makes an appearance as Robin's new tech guy? oh how the mighty have fallen. Tim breaks his new nemesis/girlfriend (think the Catwoman to his Red Robin) out of jail and has a heart to heart with Bruce.
Thanos Imperative 6 Sat down and read the whole series from the beginning. This has been an epic conclusion to Abnett and Lanning's Cosmic Series starting with the Annihilation books, thru the ongoing Nova and Guardians books, War of Kings, Realm of Kings all the way to this series. its all been one large interconnected story of over a hundred issues. And it ended stupendously with the deaths of two major heroes.
Thor 617 Thos tracks down his dead brother Loki, who is now in the body of a child with no memory. Beautiful Pasqual Ferry art. Fraction is doing well with this book.
Transformers 13 Wow. A complete left turn from where the story was heading. Leaving Earth to see where HotRod went off to when he stole Ultra Magnus' ship. We find him trying to retrieve the Matrix from Starscream...until the final page where Megtron returns and BLOWS HOTROD AWAY and leaves his carcass floating in space with the Matrix still around his neck. Fuckin' A Megatron is badass! And he has a new Cybertronian look to prove it.
FUCK. YOU. Sir.

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
A big week with 20 books. And I dug thru the 50 cent bin as well.
Avengers 7 The Hood begins tracking down the hidden Infinity Gems (which are surprisingly poorly hidden/protected. Way to go Reed and Blackbolt.) And then he uses the two he found to beat the shit out of the Red Hulk, wo unfortunately is joining the Avengers.
Batman 704 What? Now there's a Catgirl? She's the daughter of Carmine Falcone and Selina's new protoge.
Batman, Inc. 1 Grant Morrison starts the next cycle of his Bat-mythos restructuring. This was better than usual because I could actually follow along without feeling like a dunce.
Batman:The Return oneshot A combination of Morrison writing and Finch's art finalizes Bruce's new international plans leading into all the new "Inc." books. Pretty good. I'm excited for Finch's new solo book.
Black Widow 7 Second to last issue of the series.
Brightest Day 14 A Deadman centric issue guest starring Batman. Not bad. Better than the last couple issues.
ChaosWar:Chaos King oneshot Three short stories about the baddie of this event. Nothing spectacular.
ChaosWar: Dead Avengers 1 Capt. Marvel, Yellowjacket II, Dr. Druid, Deathcry, Swordsman and Vision are all resurrected to fight when the rest of the Avengers get taken out. My fave Tom Grummet is on art, so yay!
Flash 6 Eh. more crap. I had a couple freebies coming and this was one of them.
GIJoe Cobra 10 The story returns to Chuckles. He makes a break from the Cobra compound where he's imprisoned and almost makes it, but then gets an interesting offer from Cobra Commander. Join Cobra.
Green Lantern 59 Hah. Larfleeze picks Barry Allen's pocket and lifts his wallet.
Green Lantern Corps 54 Taken out of context, the splash page where Kyle is punching Sinestro is one of my new faves. If everybody said "Batman." as they punched another person, the world would be very cool.
Heroic Age: Villains Handbook style book where Steve Rogers discusses and assesses almost 200 villains in the Marvel U.
Legacies 7 Bane breaking Batman and Doomsday killing Superman are recapped in this history of the DCU.
Spider-Girl 1 Suprisingly good read for a first issue. Adding Sue Storm as confidante to young Anna Corazon is a nice touch. The 'twitter' Captions are annoying though.
Stand:Hardcases 5 The excellent adaptation continues with Mike Perkins art. Only two more minis left.
Superman 705 Superman helps a young boy who is a victim of an abusive father.
Thunderbolts 150 Supersized 150th issue. has a reprint of the T-Bolts #1 in the back.
X-Factor 211 The team fights zombie asgardians and Shattershot swoons for Thor (which was hilarious). I wish I had a scanner so I could upload some of these panels that crack me up.
X-23 3 Laura finds "inner strength" in a dream sequence "finding yourself" issue.

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
GIJoe: Hearts and Minds came in the mail today. When I ordered it months ago, it was solicited as paperback. When I checked Amazon this morning to see where it was, I noticed it said it was a hardback. Sure enough, it's a hardback. Why would IDW switch gears in the middle? I've got all the volumes in the IDW Joeverse so far, and there's not been a hardback until now. This one is going to look weird on the shelf among all the paperbacks.
Oh well.
Oh well.

Super light two weeks:
Green Hornet #9 - #10 is supposed to be out this coming week, which will finish Kevin Smith's run.
Highland Laddie #4 - The Boys spin-off mini continues.
Morning Glories #4 - Still waiting to find a 3rd printing (or 4th or 5th or 6th or...) of issue #1.

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
A fairly decent, if expensive, week. Even the extra freebies I picked up ended up entertaining.
Amazing Spidey 649 HOLY SHIT! Roderick Kingsley fans is gonna be PISSSSSED! After being on the burner behind the back burner for a good many decades, they finally brought him back last issue (to the delight of Kingsley cultists everywhere) and then fucking CHOPPED his HEAD OFF this issue! ha ha! Sweet!!
Secret Avengers 7 Sweet Deodato art and Holy crap! John Steele is back and he's a baddie! ha ha ! This week's awesome continues.
Detective Comics 871 moody writer Scott Snyder takes over 'Tec this month with an actual detective story. yet another well done story. 3 for 3!
Batman and Robin 17 Paul Cornell starts his three issue fill in with this issue. Drops off after Morrison left, but still a good story with a kooky villain and premise.
Batwoman 0 A well told primer issue that has Bruce following kate Kane attempting to determine whether she's Batwoman, and cleverly fill in the reader thru exposition on everything you need to know about her backstory in a tight one-off. Bodes well for the ongoing.
Captain America 612 Bucky's incarceration continues, and Steve hires ex-gf Bernie Rosenthal as his defense attorney. this is the first issue in awhile that didn't drag. I'm a sucker for courtroom and political drama.
Chaos War: Alpha Flight oneshot Acompletely arbitrary and unconvincing way to bring boring characters who were better off as martyrs back to life. No doubt to serve some future poor selling, quickly cancelled series.
Deadpool Teamup 887 I got this because of the cover, and enjoyed the interior. Deadpool teams up with Thor? Hilarious.
Fantasitc Four 585 Namor, you stupid bastard. Thats no way to cultivate peace.
Iron Man 32 Another great issue. Its amazing this series has gone 32 issues and every single one has been great. Highly recommend this to anyone currently hating on Marvel. its not all shit.
Justice League Gen Lost 14 Captain Atom jumps into the future again and meets the new Justice League 100+ years from now. Adds a new twist to the series. Instead of languishing like that overblown tripe Brightest Day this series is rocking.
Namor 4 The first arc ends as Namor confronts his now undead vampire grandfather. yeah, I know, vampires suck.
New Mutants 19 One of two X-teams that get their asses handed to them this week.
Secret Warriors 22 After Phobos' death last month, Nick Fury finds out who the traitor is. And drops his ass down a big hole. This series rocks. Along with Iron Man above, another book I recommend to Marvel haters.
Shadowland Blood on the Streets 4 End of the mini series. A decent ending that leads in to the upcoming Heroes For Hire book.
Shadowland: PowerMan 4 Another decent mini ends. Not spectacular, but leads into the new PowerMan/Iron Fist series.
Teen Titans 89 Another fun issue. I loved Superboy and Kid Flash playing ping pong in the background with four paddles and eight balls. And everybody ragging on Damian was fun also.
Uncanny X-Force 2 This team gets a serious ass beat down by Apocalypse's Horsemen. it was embarrasing.
Uncanny X-Men 530 The X-Men get the flu and are stuck on the island, which leaves anybody NOT on the island as the defacto X-Men. So Northstar, Dazzler, Emma, and others get to deal with...The Original X-Men! Huh?!? Also, a cool cover.
X-Men Legacy 242 Omega Sentinel goes nuts and tries to kill Hope.
