He missed the fact that every post-Catwoman DC movie has been great. With a few exceptions, the Marvel movies started good and have been going into the toilet. Even with standouts like Iron Man (so I hear), there's more chaff than wheat from Marvel.

Actually, both companies seem to be doing alright now. Marvel seems to be stepping in the right direction with the Iron Man/Avengers franchises, bringing themselves back up after the lull between "Spider-Man 2" and "Iron Man". DC's greatest success lies in Nolan's Batman films, but they need more than that to keep themselves going. We've got "Watchmen" coming, sure, but what else? The only other A-listers DC hasn't done movies about yet are Wonder Woman and Flash, and those don't have the mass appeal that Batman and Superman do. I think they'd need to bring out the big guns and finally do a Justice League movie.

But you're wrong that every post-Catwoman DC movie was good. "Constantine" was ass.

I have to agree with Robert Downey, he's right. If you remove Heath Ledger's fantastic performance from that movie, I think it's as average as Bats Begins and probably overbloated by comparison.

Too bad Tropic Thunder sucked though...

he's definitely right in that there's two schools of thought on superhero movies. not everything has to be played with such gravitas - it works with batman because he was the original emo. wah wah wah my parents died, i'm going to fight crime dressed in fetish gear. but superman? i don't understand why that movie was so dark - both figuratively AND in terms of cinematography! and they both tried to be these epic ben hur/gone with the wind sweeping dramas... i'm all for the attempt to elevate the superhero genre to something above the common genpop perception, but as much as i enjoyed the nolan batman movies and to a certain extent superman returns, at the end of the day for the most part i go to the theater to be entertained. i've gone away from the theater with more "i had a blast" feelings from marvel movies than i have from DC movies, plain and simple, iron man being the break-out pinnacle. is this because i have more love for marvel characters than DC? possibly, but i know my wife generally enjoys the marvel movies more as well, and for the most part enjoys the DC movies LESS than i do...

got the two-disc target "mark 3 mask" version today. fuck, i love this movie!

anyway, something i totally missed in the theaters, the name of the terrorist organization is called the TEN RINGS! mandarin, anyone? nice, subtle setup.

i forgot to look for cap's shield, also. but i still don't believe it's there anyway.

The Ten Rings is a total set up for IM 2-3.

And I believe that it's been confirmed that that is Cap's shield.

oh, i heard it was confirmed. i just still don't believe it ;)

and i jumped to the part in the movie it "appears in" after i posted, and while it LOOKS like caps' shield, it also looks a lot like a bunch of scrap metal and translucent plastic. if it's cap's shield, it's cut in half, which is absurd as it's supposedly unbreakable. and the "star" only has three points on it.

in the end, the "confirmation" is little more than the equivalent of SWEU, so you can take and leave what you will. i'll leave it, thanks.

If my comic knowledge serves me, Cap's shield is made out of adamantium, isn't it?

Anyway, I picked up "Iron Man" yesterday. It seemed like a much longer movie when I saw it in theaters for some reason.

WRONG!!!!

It's a unique adamantium/vibranium alloy which has never been duplicated since the man who developed it never wrote it down so it would remain a secret US technology and was killed by a Nazi agent.

(I wasn't intending to "yell," but it seemed appropriate. Imagine it in the voice of Dana Carvey as Whatshisface McLaughlin.)

I saw this the other night and was really digging the movie until it pulled a Gangs of New York with the ending. WTF kind of superhero is Iron Man? HE goes to Afghanistan, blows up a fuck load of terrorists and then fights Bridges and gets his ass kicked the whole freakin fight. What is that shit. He did nothing. Sold the fuck out

He got his ass kicked because he had the near dead battery.

he used a megapulse from the arc reactor (in his chest) to try to disable the iron monger suit, which only served to drain his power reserves - not disable iron monger. flying doesn't use as much energy apparently.

Iron Man 2: ScarJo & Mickey Rourke Help Raise Iron Curtain

Scarlett Johansson is joining the superhero set.

Her rep confirms that the actress has signed on to play Black Widow in the Iron Man sequel opposite Robert Downey Jr. The deal was signed this afternoon.

"Scarlett is thrilled to be a part of Iron Man," her rep, Marcel Pariseau, tells me.

Meanwhile, after months of negotiations...

The Wrestler's comeback kid, Mickey Rourke, has finally sealed a deal to play villain Whiplash, according to Variety.

Rourke's team had reportedly held out for more money after Marvel's initial offer was just $250,000.

Scheduled for a May 2010 release, part two of the franchise will also include Gwyneth Paltrow returning as Pepper Potts, along with Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Don Cheadle playing Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes.

I'm excited. I'll wager anarky is too.

I'm not much into comics but does Black Widow ever show her tits? If not then this is just "MEH!" news to me.
