I'm kinda shocked nobody has tried to remake The Magnificent Seven in the last fifty years. That seems like a film that a major movie studio would get damp panties for to turn into a franchise.

No idea who he'd play. He's totally wrong for every character. The same article mentioned the possibility of Kevin Costner, Morgan Freeman, and Matt Damon. Again, each is wrong for everyone. Oddly, I could totally see George Clooney as Harry Luck.

I saw half of Real Steel.
It occurred to me that if that movie had come out in the 80s when I was 10, it'd probably be a childhood favorite. It had that vibe to it.

Over the weekend, I saw Full Metal Jacket, Sin City, and Beavis and Butt-Head Do America. Yes, I've probably seen Full Metal Jacket and Sin City too many times, but IFC keeps showing them and I can't seem to change the channel.

My opinion on the Beavis and Butt-Head movie hasn't changed since I saw it in the theater when it came out. It was ok. There were some good lines. The best part of the tv show was the videos, and the movie didn't have any. Come to think of it, that may only be the first or second time I've seen it since it was in the theater.

The best part is Robert Stack correcting the other agent for ending a sentence with a preposition. And Cloris Leachman who wants to score with the slots.

Saw Premium Rush today, starring Cobra Commander and the imitation General Zod. Enjoyable performances in a lightweight action film.

Watched the first half of RedTails today. Some truly hideously campy dialogue and characters and amateurish directing couldn't save the decent flying sequences. This is what happens when huge egos *coughGLucough* don't have Studio oversight telling them they need a serious rewrite.

The Hangover was on TNT last night. I gave it about 45 minutes until I was annoyed by it and changed the channel.

we got it via netflix a few months ago and feel like it was over-hyped. not because it's not funny, but because it was SO hyped it could never live up to expectations after such a long time. sort of like making prequels to 25 y/o movies.

Saw The Master today. Paul Anderson is doing his typical pretentious filmmaking again. He had a lot of interesting camera angles and cinematography that draw attention to themselves. The acting was good amd i forsee some Oscar noms for Joaquim and Seymour. I hadn't read anything about it at all, before going to see it, but the Scientology comparison was rather obvious. After I got home I read some reviews and they all mentioned it, so even though the director was effusive about it, it's obvious he was going there.
And there was lots of full frontal. The good kind. And since it's set in 1950 it's all bush.

Rocky III. Another movie I hadn't seen in years. Make that decades. While Mick is having a heart attack, they wait until the fight is over before they decide he needs to go to the hospital "immediately". Then there is the part where no one even attempts blocks a punch until the third round of the final fight. Another thing I found funny was how they were saying Rocky was too old to come back. How many more Rocky movies did he make? I guess what I'm saying is that Rocky doesn't appear to have aged well.

You mean the character or the first movie? Because no number of shitty sequels can diminish how cool the first movie is.

I meant Rocky III hasn't aged well. It has been a long to time since I have seen the others. I saw Rocky I-IV but none of the films after that. I'd be willing to bet there is a cheese factor in all of them.

Just realized I missed the beginning of Rocky III so I didn't see the part with Hulk Hogan.

I saw it too. The only other PT Anderson movies I've seen are Boogie Nights (which I like) and Punch-Drunk Love (which was a little strained . . . not bad or anything, just a little too far into "indie quirk" territory for my tastes). The acting was fantastic, and there were some really good moments (the first "processing" scene was great), but overall it feels like there's something missing - it seems like it's more of a character study than anything else, but the characters don't really change or "do" anything that interesting, so maybe it's just supposed to be a snapshot of these people at this time. I dunno. It was just okay.
