I've just been too lazy.

I've still be reading my usuals, but I also picked up Batman & Robin #1 (far better than the creative team's AS Superman) and The Boys spin-off, Herogasm #1 & 2 (sick, twisted and full of nudity), and Daredevil Noir (which I'll read after issue #4 comes out).

Remender's Punisher has been really good.
The MAX Punisher is still good, but still below Ennis levels.
DD - still consistently great.
The Boys is still fun and twisted.
Kick-Ass is still good, but still ships far too late.
Star Wars Legacy is still Star Wars Legacy (always on the verge of promising).
Criminal is on hiatus for Incognito and All-Star Batman is MIA.

Vyn, you picked up Incognito, right? What do you think? So far I'm loving it. Great superhero noir.

The Criminal stuff is great. I've been reading since issue #1. Same tone/style as Incognito, except without the superpowers.

I'm not sure I've heard of Scene if the Crime. I'd like to track it down someday.
Good luck with it though. It looks like its out of print.

I got two new IDW TPB's in the mail:

Classic GIJoe Vol 4: Still some great stuff, but it's obvious that Hasbro shoehorned a lot of new characters in, told Hama they were replacing the older characters, and had a lot more influence overall. Lady Jaye and Flint, especially, don't seem to have any characterization yet, and Jaye is a bitch. The debut of the Crimson Twins, adventures with Candy Appel, Billy's father revealed, Storm Shadow turning from the Cobras, and the first part of the formation of Cobra Island. Still great, but not quite as perfect as the last volume because there's just about too many characters.

I can't find a scan, but a panel of the Joes hopping into Candy's balloon truck while she's in her bear costume may be the single greatest panel ever.

Transformers: Maximum Dinobots: I have to hand it to Furman. When he was asked to write something bridging the point where he was practically kicked off Transformers in favor of the slow, disjointed All Hail Megatron, and the seemingly separate continuity of the aforementioned All Hail Megatron, he could've told them to fuck themselves. Instead, he writes an incredible story that ties up all the loose ends and paves the way for what that hack had already done in AHM. Wondering why Soundwave is back? Why Hot Rod is no longer a Dodge Viper and Sunstreaker isn't a Headmaster? Or why Scorponok didn't cause trouble for Megs on Earth, or why it kept saying there were no Autobots on the planet when Hot Rod, Sunstreaker, and the Dinobots should've still been there? Simon Furman obviously wrote this for the fans who felt like they were reamed by AHM, and I pray this isn't the last we've seen of him.

that's a great week. well, DA7 was last week, but i missed it on the shelves, as the 'utopia' branding all but obfuscates the fact that it's actually the comic known as 'dark avengers'.

also, i read 'invincible' and 'atomic robo' on lunch break immediately upon returning to my desk from the store. that's like my seal of approval. the 'desk readers' and the 'train or elsewhere readers'.

I'll give the complete tally for Comic-Con, which is rather impressive this year, as soon as I get everything sorted. Lots of copies of Marvels and Watchmen in half-off bins, which surprised me. Not having Marvels, I got it. Also scored Preacher Volume 1 autographed (from the CBLDF booth--I don't mind the upcharge for autographed since it is a worthy comic-related charity).

One guy had almost all the IDW reprints of the old Now Comics Speed Racer series. Only Volume 1 was MIA. I was going to go back today, since he said he was putting stuff out all weekend, but Mrs A got into passive-aggressive "I'm really annoyed to still be here today, and I'm not actually going to tell you, and will even deny it if you ask, but will make it really clear with my snide comments and body language, and if you don't pick up on it, there's going to be hell to pay." Having already dealt with my in-laws for several days (which is always cool for about six hours, and hell on earth after that), I decided to leave early instead of looking for it.

And instead of meeting Simon Furman. As much as the guy is responsible for getting me into comics (the first time I bought a comic and said, "Holy shit, I must read the next issue ASAP!" was the first issue of Transformers he did in the US, getting me into a comic shop for the first time and addicted to all sorts of other sequential art beyond Hasbro licenses--even Hama didn't do that, since my Joe reading was so sporadic prior to that), I figured a drive home with an irritated spouse was not worth it.

But, oh, she will be aware of this next time she tries to drag me into a fucking shoe store. "Yeah, those shoes are almost as cool as Simon Fuckin' Furman!"
