Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
Didn't make it to the comic shop yet, but I used a B&N gift card today and picked up Y: The Last Man Vol 2 (nearly a year after buying the first) and The Walking Dead Vol 1.
I had to reread Y:TLM Vol 1 before I started Vol 2 because it had been so damn long.
After repeatedly hearing about how awesome TWD is I decided to try it. I had no idea it was in B&W. Kinda odd for a big publisher like Image, but great because it feels like an indie comic.
I'd like to start putting aside a few buck per week and alternate picking up trades of these two once a month or so (that is, if I like TWD, which I should).

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
Just one last week. The Punisher MAX #66 (or Frank Castle: The Punisher as it's now called). A decent start for the second post-Ennis arc, even though it feels like the plot of the movie Crank (I'm assuming, based on the trailers I saw). Frank is kidnapped and injected with a drug that'll kill him in 6 hours unless he succeeds in killing someone.
The worst part of the issue is the price hike to $3.99. I get the feeling that'll be the standard rate pretty soon, which will kill many lower selling comics.
Also, I'm not trying to sound like spam, but has anyone ever shoped at instocktrades.com?
If things are as they seem, they seem like the way to go for trades.
I was just looking at continuing my Y: The Last Man & Walking Dead reads and each volume is at least 37% off cover price.
Shipping seems great also. Free over $50 (and only $4 under $50).

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
i know... it's quite a frightening jump, really. at least the increase to $2.99 was gradual. this is a one-dollar jump! i can remember the price-increase track going as follows:Diabolical wrote:The worst part of the issue is the price hike to $3.99. $0.75
$1.00
$1.25
$1.50
$1.75
$1.95
$2.25
$2.50
$2.95
$2.99
and that's over the course of my entire lifetime (well, the part that i spent reading comics. i got very few newsstand $0.75 books. i really started around the $1.00-$1.25 era.) some books, like savage dragon, have gone up to $3.50. but to jump an entire dollar, that's ludicrous.
they look like a really good deal. also, i've heard about their parent site, http://www.dcbservice.com so it's not a fly-by-night, they're established. Also, I'm not trying to sound like spam, but has anyone ever shoped at instocktrades.com? [...] at least 37% off cover price.

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
I started really collecting in the $1.00 era as well. I didn't mind too much when the $3.99 price tag was for a mini-series, since it was only for 6 months or so, especially when it was a mini that otherwise may have never been released (like the current NYX mini), or even when it was really quality material (Magneto Testament and Punisher War Zone). But paying $3.99 for a monthly? Looks like I'm going to be chosing more carefully.vynsane wrote:and that's over the course of my entire lifetime (well, the part that i spent reading comics. i got very few newsstand $0.75 books. i really started around the $1.00-$1.25 era.) some books, like savage dragon, have gone up to $3.50. but to jump an entire dollar, that's ludicrous.
Good to know. Even though trades tend to be cheaper than floppies I'm not crazy about payinging $12-15 for a book I'll read in a sitting or two.vynsane wrote:they look like a really good deal. also, i've heard about their parent site, http://www.dcbservice.com so it's not a fly-by-night, they're established. Also, I'm not trying to sound like spam, but has anyone ever shoped at instocktrades.com? Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
yeah, the $3.99 an issue on minis with higher quality paper and cardstock covers makes a bit more sense. the $3.50 for current 'project: superpowers' issues is just on the cusp of getting the axe, though. they're putting out a lot of stuff and i don't know if i can swing it all. but i think about a third of the issues of amazing spider-man came out with a $3.99 cover price this year. makes me glad i got the subscription!
too bad i can't also buy the adventures of dr. mcninja there... i'll have to get that over at topatoco.com
just so you know, i have a shopping cart full of 'madman gargantua', and 'popgun' vols 1 and 2, so your spam ploy worked, spammer...Diabolical wrote:[...] has anyone ever shoped at instocktrades.com?
