Okay, this has absolutely NOTHING to do with any GIJoe comic book series, past, present, or future. Off-subject posts in this thread suck more than the Sigma Six cartoon.

Has anyone been reading America's Elite? Or as I now call it: Shipwreck. Seriously, could you have Snake-Eyes, Scarlett, Duke and all the other Joes fans are clamoring for in it a little less? And more Shipwreck. Who was at the top of everybody's fan lists to begin with. And when I say top I mean top 50.

So I was talking with this friend of mine whos a big Joe fan from way back and we were talking about how cool Snake-Eyes origin is and how its like a template for classic origins right up there with Spider-Man, Batman etc. And it got me thinking about how none of the other main characters ever got that kind of treatment. Where did Hawk come from? Duke? How did they hook up with Stalker? How and when did Cobra rear its ugly head and how did they decide America might need a counter terrorist unit to deal with them? And who decided Hawk and Duke were the right men for the job? Did they have a personal interest? There is tons of material wating to be fleshed out there. As labyrinthine as Snake-Eyes convoluted past with Cobra Commander, Zartan, Firefly, Stalker, StormShadow, etc is. How many more layers could have been added with serious looks at the origins and motivations of these other characters.

Something to think about.

PS Nobody really believes Snake-Eyes is dead after #7 do they?

Firefly could have a really cool origin story. A Vietnamese orphan who would've been an adult merc during the Vietnam War (American version) and was hired by the man who would become Cobra Commander to infiltrate the Arishikage Clan. . . and succeeded? There's some stories waitin' to be told there.

Fuck Rusk. I finally got into the comic shop and scored Snake Eyes 3-5 (still missing 2, but I'll find it).

Holy Goddamn!!!!!!

I thought after #1 was all "been there, done that, here's a couple extra lines of dialogue," the rest of the series would be downhill. But #2 apparently has Snakes as a Punisher-style vigilant (!!!), and all the details about the Arashikage split were very well-done. . . IIRC, it even jives with the details in the Ninja Showdown pack-in comic! I knew for all three issues that that fateful arrow would fly, and it was still the first time I got misty-eyed over a Joe comic since Cool Breeze bought it years ago. (Lady Jaye just fucking pissed me off.) The turmoil in Zartan, and the tension between he and Firefly was totally new to me, and I really felt sorry for the Aussie prick. Had he just been able to make swords and forget the whole deal, a whole fuckload of trouble would've been prevented, in more ways than one.

Cameos by Jinx and Blind Master, too, though they didn't explain too well why the clan was so against bringing the westerner Snake Eyes in, but the Blind Master is obviously not Japanese.

And was Firefly fathered by a French (or even American) serviceman in 'Nam? He doesn't look entirely Vietnamese. But maybe it's related to his wacky ability to never be seen clearly by anyone or any camera.
