i'm working on a rather large project... after rewatching BSG (for either the third of fourth time, not sure) i wondered how large the resultant model of The Bucket herself would be when using a scale of "1 crossbeam = 1 brick wide". the answer is, dauntingly, 470 studs, which is roughly 3.76 meters or 12.33 feet long!

here she is with just the crossbeams laid out flat with a little bit of hull plating in place just to determine whether or not the shapes fit the LEGO mold:

i found this blog post with some test-shot renders of the actual official computer model used in the series, which will be of great help. it's funny, but as i delve deeper into the details, it's like it was meant to be built in LEGO at this scale - the beams at 1-brick-width means the gaps between the beams are basically exactly four bricks wide. the point-defense turrets around the perimeter (two per space between crossbeams) are basically exactly the size and configuration of 30162 'Prismatic Binoculars'!

I could've swore we posted the Teaser Trailer somewhere, but I couldn't find it.
Anyway, this is going here. I'm not saying this is the movie I'm MOST excited for next year, but it's definitely Top Five.

I fucking love this series. I love everything I've seen from the movie. It's a total love letter to Lego. Lord Business's lair is truly beautiful. Go ahead and take a few moments to absorb all the details.

Just showed my kids those pictures and the movie trailer. They are excited. I'd wager Newsbot is too.

I like the selection of minifigures. We didn't get anything from series 1 or 2, so now I have a chance to get that cop and the Mexican guy. There are a few of these where we might have to get duplicates of because both kids want them.

This may be the first CMF series I buy all 16 of. I probably won't buy any of the sets but I'll get the minifigures from them on Bricklink/Ebay. I recently bought all the Roman CMF's in one go. Damn, minifigures are getting expensive. I was looking for a Spartan warrior but I'll be damned if I'll pay more than £10 for one. I keep seeing dioramas on Flickr where people have hundreds of Spartans and on the one hand it's quite impressive but on the other it infuriates me that someone has been so damn selfish and bought them all up and denied so many people the chance to own any. I hope Lego re-release some of these rarer minifigures some time. Totally devalue the ones that the hoarders have.

Departing slightly from that, my significant other has been watching Slugterra episodes. It occured to me last night what an excellent IP it is for Lego to pursue. Slug firing guns. Awesome. It's a little like Pokemon but with some snappier writing and more interesting characterisations. Though it does follow the tried and tested good vs evil formula for kids cartoons. Perfect for the older kid market once Ninjago and Legends of Chima are done with. Beat the crap out of Ben 10 for sure.

Oh I'm only looking for one or two. I'm collecting the historical characters for a City museum. With blank faces to resemble display dummies. You know the sort of thing, build a museum then have bad guys being confronted by heroes as they try to steal valuable relics. Just one of my long term MOC projects. Gonna build it dolls house style with different rooms for different cultures and eras. Big main hall with dinosaurs etc.

If you could part with a Spartan that'd be awesome. How much monies would we be talking about?

honestly, i'm not really looking to make any money off them - say $3 per? do you just want one, or more? i literally just opened one a few nights ago after finding it in the attic, and another one still in package from the same lot.

meanwhile, in the "perks of being funemployed" department, the Community Relations Team at LEGO offered Ice at Toys N Bricks a preview review copy of the next Modular Building, 10243 "Parisian Restaurant," slated for January 1, 2014 release. i was the first to volunteer, because i had nothing else to do (except look for jobs) so i got it two days ago, built it yesterday, and posted 'part 1' of the review an hour or so ago! it's a monster!

Awesome. I'm still behind two sets. Need City Hall and the Movie Theatre. I'm hoping to get them in the next couple months though.

The restaurant is a really nice model. I'm tempted to get it for my Mum. Who in her late sixties decided to become a Crumbly Fan Of Lego. She missed out on the medieval market and most of the other modulars aren't really her thing but this one with the food and wine and fancy details will really appeal. Plus it would get her away from red bricks for everything. I imagine a long winter night by the fire with a nice bottle of vino, constructing this, would be fairly awesome.

part 2 of the review is up. it's a great set, highly detailed! i did get to keep it, too.

Awesome. Lovin' the new parts. two new round tiles, 2x2 bowed slope, the inverse 2x2 dome. Just have to wait for them to appear in colours I'll use now. Friends and Chima seem to be doing well on the flame yellow orange front though. Love that colour. Loving vomit olive green too. For a company so publicly against modern warfare they're really pushing the camouflage colours recently. Not that that's bad as it's very useful and nicer than the old primary colours only way, but the new guy in charge is definitely shaking things up.
