X-Men, X-Men Origins, Wolverine, etc.

X-Men, X-Men Origins, Wolverine, etc.

With this coming out eventually (Summer '09?), and filming underway, I thought I'd make a topic about the 4th Wolverine movie (honestly, that is all X-Men 1-3 were).

It has possibilities to be good, but I'm not getting excited until I see a trailer (at the very least).

Comminsoon.net says there could very well be a cameo by the "merc with a mouth," Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds.
There was talk of a Deadpool movie starring Reynolds for quite a while a few years ago and the project looked to be dead, but this cameo could be a jumping off point for a spin-off (of a spin-off). Perfect casting for DP, IMO.

I agree. Ryan Reynolds is a Dreamboat.
"Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery."

Diabolical, I have lost a lot of faith in you. Here you are, praising a character created by Rob Liefeld?

You make me sad, Brave Sir Knight.

It's not my fault Liefeld slipped up and made one good character.
Besides, once he was out of Rob's hands, Deadpool became a cool character.
Not sure about recent history, but the mid-to-late 1990's DP was fun.

A bit more news:
From Obsessed With Film:
IESB have it on good authority that Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights) will play Remy LeBeau in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, the first of three movies he will play the character.

A trailer description from Comic-Con
Wolverine Surprises Fans at Comic Con: Trailer Features Gambit, Deadpool, Blob, and More

In an entirely unprecedented move, Hugh Jackman burst onto the scene at Comic Con after having flown straight from Australia, with filming on Wolverine literally finishing up just this past week. He announced that he just had to reveal to the real fans (without whom he claims he “wouldn’t have a career”) what the movie would be like, offering up the first ever seen trailer/footage.

Naturally, this caused an onslaught of applause from audience members.

The trailer kicks off with Wolverine and Sabertooth in a prison cell. They get taken outside, strapped to posts, and shot to hell by a firing squad. “What did that feel like?” a man asks. Wolverine responds: “It tickled.”

Cut to a shot of Wolverine strutting cheesily to the camera as a truck explodes behind him. Marvel logo fades onscreen.

Then Major William Stryker announces himself to both Sabertooth and Wolverine, discussing the prospect of putting a special team together. Interspersed between this are shots of them running through the woods with full-fledged animal ferocity, being surrounded by a group of soldiers in a circle while amping up to kick some ass, and then the clincher, a shot of Deadpool posing for the camera with his two samurai swords.

Wolverine tells Sabertooth that this wasn’t the program he signed up for. We see him being hooked into place inside the adamantium-injecting machine and thrashing about in the water. He bursts out of it in a blaze of anger and roars at the camera, his claws bursting out of his hands while he does it. Bodies drop as Wolverine slashes in every direction.

A handful of cards are tossed toward the screen, and the camera pans to reveal none other than Gambit holding his electrically-enhanced staff.

More quick shots: a child Wolverine (?) screams with his claws burst out of his hands, Sabertooth lunges across the ground like an animal and attacks Wolverine in what looks like a small snippet of a much larger battle, Wolverine gets clobbered in a boxing ring by the massive Blob, Wolverine goes one-on-one with Gambit, and a mysterious girl begins to have electricity sparkle all throughout her body.

Before you can even begin to recognize all the quick shots of your favorite comic book characters, a final set of clips shows off a very cool-looking set piece with Wolverine facing off on his motorcycle against a truck, and eventually climaxes with him launching thirty feet in the air onto a helicopter.

The title shoots on screen: X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Finishing off the footage, Wolverine looks at Saberooth and quips, “I’m gonna cut your goddamn head off; see if that works.”

Out of the clips shown, there appears to be a lot going for and against this movie. Towards the beginning of the footage, the cheese factor was through the roof, feeling more on par with Ratner’s X-Men than Singer’s. Later on though, the mere presence of characters like Gambit and Deadpool immediately picked up the excitement factor several notches. What we got to see from the action sequences only furthered this excitement, confirming that even if the film doesn’t offer much in terms of emotional/dramatic tension or strong storytelling, it will at least amount to a whole lot of action-packed fun.
Still a wait and see for me.
The Deadpool and Gambit bits have me hopeful, but the Brett Ratner comparison has me worried.

I wasn't expecting greatness from the Wolverine movie anyway, but I'm in just to see Gambit and Deadpool on the big screen for the first time.

not really a huge fan of either gambit or deadpool, so that doesn't have me all that excited. the sabretooth/stryker connections will be cool.

Oh, and it appears that Emma Frost in in the movie also. She can briefly be seen in the trailer, turning into her diamond form.

Saw the new trailer. I'm not excited. It will take some convincing for me to get excited about an X-Men movie after the shitfest that was X3.

Clawing Into the 'Wolverine' Teaser Trailer

Clawing Into the 'Wolverine' Teaser Trailer

Hugh Jackman may be People Magazine's choice for "Sexiest Man Alive," and he was just announced as this year's Oscars host, but for me and many other movie fans, he'll always just be Wolverine.

And like many fans of director Bryan Singer's first two "X-Men" movies, I was really disappointed by 2006's "X-Men: The Last Stand." And while many characters were treated poorly in that flick -- the way Cyclops' death was completely glossed over was fairly insulting -- Wolverine in particular was presented in a bad light. I mean, come on, he cries in that movie. Twice! Logan does not cry.

Needless to say, when it was announced that they were going to make a Wolverine-centered prequel, I was not sure it was such a good idea. But I watched the recently released trailer for "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," and I can say my outlook has shifted to "cautiously optimistic." If you haven't seen it yet, you can skip down the page to watch it.
Jump to the Trailer >>

Apparently, I wasn't the only one looking forward to the trailer. According to Yahoo! Buzz, web searches for "wolverine trailer" have spiked, with guys ages 13-54 making up 8 out of 10 searches. And reaction on fan sites has been mixed. Collider.com said the action "looks ridiculous" and predicts the movie to be a "crushing disappointment." But JoBlo.com said, "I'm a straight up Wolverine lover... and I'm just really excited about it."

I agree that some of the effects look a little iffy. The shot of him hanging from a helicopter stands out as being obviously green-screened. But I thought the fighting looked pretty good. In fact, I was just watching the first "X-Men" again last weekend and it dawned on me that in all three movies Wolverine's big fight at the end was against a woman: Mystique, Lady Deathstrike and Jean Grey. Good to see this one will have some guys tough enough to stand up to him. And, yes, there's the shot of Wolvie bellowing in heartbreak, but I didn't see tears, so that's a relief.

The most intriguing part of the trailer for me were the little glimpses of the other characters in the movie. The problem with prequels in general is that they cover ground everyone is already familiar with, but since Wolverine's backstory was mostly a mystery, it looks like there will be enough new information to keep it interesting. Here's a guide to all the fresh faces revealed in the trailer.

Liev Schreiber as Sabretooth Liev Schreiber as Sabretooth: In the first movie, this character was a barely-verbal henchman, not the crafty arch-nemesis of the comics. Schreiber may not look much like the character from the books, but he does have the attitude.

Danny Huston as William Stryker Danny Huston as William Stryker: The younger version of the character played by Brian Cox in "X2" who led the Weapon X project that gave Wolverine his adamantium skeleton. Huston seems to have toned down Cox's Southern accent.

Lynn Collins as Silver Fox Lynn Collins as Silver Fox: The woman Logan was in love with before becoming Wolverine. She's not a mutant, but was given healing powers by the Weapon X program. Collins took the role when Michelle Monaghan dropped out.

Taylor Kitsch as Gambit Taylor Kitsch as Gambit: A favorite of many comic fans, the character was supposed to be in the previous films but never made it to the screen. He has the power to charge objects -- usually playing cards -- to make them explosive weapons.

Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool: Reynolds took the small part as the wisecracking mutant mercenary as a potential launching point for a solo movie, something he's wanted to do for over five years. He won't always look that good, though.

Will.i.am as Kestrel Will.i.am as Kestrel: Here's the wildcard. This is the Black Eyed Peas frontman's first movie role (not counting "Madagascar 2.") Apparently he is a "X-Men" fan and went through rigorous training for the part, but it's still a big question if he can act or not.

Young StormAnd since this is a prequel, you'll not only see the younger version of Logan (check out the shot of him with his exposed bone claws), but also other mutants like Storm and Emma Frost. It's all part of the larger plan to do a whole "X-Men Origins" film series, with "Magneto" being next on the docket.

Of course, that depends on how well this movie does. But even with some not-so-positive reactions on the web to the first trailer, it will start off the summer movie season, which brought in huge numbers for "Spider-Man 3" and "Iron Man" in the past two years. I know I'll be there on May 1st. I just better not see any crying.

Hold on. Will.i.am is an X-Man fan? Wow. Who saw that coming?
