i actually have some, if not most, of Superior Spider-man, but never read it. i was still getting a subscription to ASM at the time it switched.

i'm more meaning just from the new 001 and onward, is that collected in TPB format yet, or just floppies still? what's the schedule on it, monthly, bi-weekly, thrice-monthly again?
Life is short. STUNT IT!

Well, after Superior there was a new ASM that ran 18 issues or so. They've all been collected in trades.
The new post-Secret Wars ASM is on issue 9. The first arc is done, so it'll be collected any day now. I think the turnaround on trades is almost instantaneous these days.

All you really need is Saga and Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye. There are a lot of other really good series out there, but those two are like oxygen.

Another dozen this week. No first issues because I skipped Hyperion, but one Final Issue; the one I said I wasn't getting.

Ant-Man 5. Going thru my piles, I realized I had skipped this one a few weeks back. Ant-Man tries to train the new Giant-Man by having him walk thru a Lego recreation of San Francisco. In the end, he settles for having him be his tech-guru in Pym's old lab.

ANAD Avengers 7. Standoff continues. A Maria Hill convinces the ANADs to go to Pleasant Hill where they end up fighting the Unity Squad and the creepy little girl erases everyone's minds in the end.

New Avengers 8. Standoff continues. Bobby's AIMvengers get a distress call from Rick Jones, who got captured by SHIELD(in the SHIELD issue I didn't buy) and they head to Pleasant Hill to rescue him. Songbird reveals she's an undercover SHIELD operative. Al Ewing is becoming my fave Marvel writer. It's like the 80s where creators would make up new shit with reckless abandon and not hoard ideas for their "creator owned" stuff. American Kaiju!! It's a giant monster with the goddamn American Flag tattooed on its back!!

Carnage 6. Carnage now possesses the Darkhold book and boards a sailing ship be soloed around the world by a 16 year old girl. Things don't end well for the girl. Or her boat.

Contest of Champions 6. The origin of how the Contest began, and the finale of the first arc as Maestro defeats everyone and recreates Battleworld. So the first arc was just prologue. I'll be sad if this book gets cancelled just as its getting started.

GIJoe Deviations oneshot. A goofy What If where Cobra succeeds in taking over the world. Not satisfied with being in power, Cobra Commander wants to disrupt all tablets and cellphones and weaponize the worlds fish, but his lieutenants tell him that they want stability now. So he hires the remnants of the Joe team to become the world's new terrorist organization. The art was subpar.

Howling Commandos of SHIELD 6. Final Issue. Standoff continues. One of the Commandos gets betrayed and sent to Pleasant Hill and his fellow monsters show up and break him out. Dull. No wonder the series ended after six issues.

Hulk 4. Amadeus stops the alien lady from stealing all of Earth's monsters for her alien garden zoo or whatever. And we learn how Cho became the new Hulk.

Star Wars 17. Leia has to break Aphra out of prison to help he retake the prison. And Han and Luke smuggle a herd of nerfs.

Star Wars: Obi and Ani 3. Ani gets kidnapped by the people he was helping to rescue. And in a flashback, Ani and Palpatine bond in a Coruscant gambling bar.

Ultimates 5. This is like the amped up version of what the Fantastic Four ongoing should be. Brilliant minds. Brilliant concepts. Oh look, Al Ewing is writing it.

Uncanny X-Men 5. Magneto lures the Dark Riders to Genosha and then butchers them and blows up Genosha and sinks it into the ocean. Then he recruits Mystique and Fantomex onto the team.

The latest volumes of Transformers (Former RiD) and GI Joe: ARAH.

God, I fucking love Soundwave. I know I'm a bit behind, but I see him turning on Galvatron soon. There is definitely a rift forming in the Decepticons, and Galvatron, Needlenose, and Brawl will be on one side, with Soundwave on the other.

Tracks and Needlenose are brothers? How exactly do Cybertronian siblings work? I don't believe IDW's explained that.

ARAH, well, you simply can't tell me Hama has ignored all other Joe comics, because he tends to borrow liberally from them (Duke's wife, cough). I'd still like an explanation of what the Red Shadows are, and why they're suddenly allied with Cobra as equals but simultaneously working for them as subordinates. This was a good read, but it felt like nothing at all happened in the first half of "Cobra World Order." Some master plan Cobra Commander has, making us pay twice as much for the story by stretching it out.

Hama says he doesn't plot out stories perse, and doesn't know the end of a story when he starts it. This was one of those times. I think they just threw the "Cobra World Order" on the covers and went biweekly to drum up some sales and lure in new readers. At this point GIJoe is purely a nostalgia thing for most comics readers. Modern millenials could give a shit.

So, in addition to my normal purchases, I picked up a Superman/Batman freeb issue that reprints the first issue of the 2004 SuperBat series by Loeb and McGuiness. And not something more recent from any of their New52 horseshit.
So hey, readers, if you liked the movie and are interested in the comics here's something from TWELVE YEARS ago written by the current head of MARVEL's TV production(responsible for all those cool Netflix shows and Agents of SHIELD amongst others) and drawn by the guy currently drawing MARVEL's Spider-Man/Deadpool comic. You might know Spidey and Deadpool as the two most popular heroes right now. Deadpool having a hit movie and Spidey being the talk of the new Civil War movie. In short...Marvel, Marvel, MARVEL.

Ironically, this was probably the last time Loeb was writing anything decent because his kid hadn't died yet.

12 more books. Apart from a couple one shots, no first or final issues this week.

New Avengers 7. The issue from before the last week's Standoff issue that I had missed. Maker finds an alt universe Tiger talisman and gives it to the Hand brainwashed Angela DelToro, so she can fight her successor, Ava Ayala. Leaving the current White Tiger without her powers.

Captain America 7. Giant 75th Anniversary issue. Standoff continues. Sam and Bucky infiltrate Pleasant Hill to find Steve. In the end, Steve gets his youth restored by the creepy cosmic cube girl. Also has a few backup stories by Whedon, Cassaday, Sale etc. Even though this is Sam's comic, this was primarily a Steve issue.

Daredevil 5. Matt has to ditch work(that will bite him in the ass down the road) to go fight a Hand demon intent on killing Tenfingers. Which they do anyway. Blindspot has a showdown with his mother. How long do you think it takes Matt to lace up his boxing boots and tape up his hands instead of throwing on gloves?

Hercules 5. Hercules has to fight the modern era Gods trying to usurp the ancient orders.

Marvel All New All Different Universe oneshot. Handbook style book with all the recent relevant players in the Marvel U. Has a different narrative style from all previous OHOTMU books, that I don't really like.

Moon Girl/Devil Dinosaur 5. Luna has to break DD out of the museum of natural history where he's being held.

Saga 35. As Hazel's parents and Prince Robot plan to break in and rescue Hazel, she and her fellow prisoners plan to break her out. And they made a Lying Cat plush doll.

Squirrel Girl 6. A crossover issue with Howard the Duck. This issue unfairly sucks the awesome out of the rest of the week's books(apart from MTMTE) because it is so awesome. And this is in a week with Saga. I'm serious, a book CO-WRITTEN by Ryan North and Chip Zdarsky with both Doreen and Howard in it. Goddamnit, start buying Squirrel Girl. All of you. Before it's too late.

Darth Vader 18. Is there a point to these "Sith apprentices" or whatever the fuck they are? Does anyone actually see them as any kind of threat to Vader? They're just kinda sucking up page space until he inevitably perforates all of them.

TMNT Deviations oneshot. Another IDW what if story. Tried to get into it until I realized its referencing a story arc from the current TMNT series that I haven't read since issue 1. The gist of it is, in the original story, Leo got brainwashed by Shredder and worked for the Foot for awhile. In this version ALL the turtles get brainwashed.

Transformers MTMTE 51. Great character development for Megatron as the stranded crew waits for the DJD to come for them. And a final page so awesome I cheered out loud, as two missing characters return.

All New X-Men 7. Toad has kidnapped young Scott and believes killing the younger version will prevent the older version from ever existing. Since it's clear these O5 are never returning to their timeline and even if they did, it's clearly not the 616 versions, I really want to see the hellish alternate timeline where the O5 left and the butterfly effect that had on the rest of that universe's history. Tell me that's not a Event waiting to be written.

Another 12 book week. Two First Issues.

New Avengers 9. Standoff continues. As retaliation for their involvement in the Pleasant Hill incident, the US Army releases its secret weapon on the AIMvengers. Cpl. Todd Ziller, AKA The American Kaiju. But Dacosta has his own secret weapon, a giant ass robot controlled by five Avengers. You see where this is going? Good.

Uncanny Avengers 8. Standoff continues. Thanks to her mental conditioning by Prof. X, Rogue realizes she's been brainwashed and finds her trapped teammate one by one to break them free. This upsets the creepy cosmic cube girl.

Black Panther 1. First Issue. Months of decimating setbacks have riled up the citizens of Wakanda and they have lost the faith. T'Challa is certain nefarious nogoodniks are behind the civil unrest...because it couldn't possibly be your pisspoor leadership over the past couple years, Mr. Illuminati. Nooo, couldn't possibly be that.

Black Widow 2. A bit of flashback to learn why BW went rogue in issue 1. Because she's being blackmailed by some Russian crime lord.

Contest of Champions 7. As Maestro settles in as the new ruler of Battleworld, White Fox recruits the Ultimates to find out what happened to her teammate Gun-R.

Deadpool 9. Sabretooth realizes DP thinks he killed Wade's parents. Since the truth that Wade killed his own family would wreck him, Creed decides to take on the burden of two more victims to save Wade from the truth.

GIJoe ARAH 227. Cobra Commander deals with the coup of Springfield, and Snake Eyes 2.0 learns some arishikage mind juju.

Iron Man 8. Iron Man and Spidey team up to find Rhodey and fall into the same trap Rhodey did.

Spider-Man 3. Miles gets grounded by his overbearing stereotypical black grandmother. Ms Marvel stops by for a chat.

Poe Dameron 1. First Issue. Mundane first issue as Poe is tasked by General Leia to find Lor San Tekka and see what he knows about her missing brother. I feel like I know how it turns out in the end.

Vision 6. The events of the past six issues come to light and Vision deals with it by getting his family a dog. Because he's in denial. The series is halfway over.

Uncanny X-Men 6. Apocalypse Wars begins/continues. Psylocke has a weird vision of Archangel decimating a small Colorado town, so she and Magneto go to investigate and find a blonde Warren Worthington acting as a local messiah. In a back up story, pundits discuss mutants on a news channel, and Magneto visits Xorn in Tibet. The irony there comes full circle, but I like what they've done with Xorn as a character despite the convoluted mess of it all.

12 book weeks seems to be the new normal. Two First Issues and a Oneshot.

Amazing Spidey 10. Spidey throws down against Zodiac and figures out its his majority Stockholder who threatens to destroy Parker Industries. Spidey says worth it.

ANAD Avengers 8. Standoff continues. As the super villains run rampant thru Pleasant Hill, Deadpool has a bonding moment with the little cosmic cube girl because he knows what it's like to be manipulated into a dangerous tool used by other and convinces her to restore all the Avengers so they can stop the assault. She does. Avengers Assemble.

Guardians of the Galaxy 7. Rocket and Thing take on an entire planet of space slavers and Grimm gets some hot alien thanks.

Gwenpool 1. The devisive First Issue of the variant cover turned cosplay meme turned backup story gets her own ongoing. Others hate this and see it as a sign of the apocalypse. I thought it was fun and impish and I enjoyed it. YMMV.

Hercules 6. Final Issue(?) has Herc and his cohorts having a celebratory dinner after last issues battle. Then Herc has a heartfelt talk with Tony Stark about sobriety. But it turns out "Tony" was the new internet God in disguise and Herc ends up falling off the wagon on the last page. This book is taking a hiatus for Civil War II and it's unclear if it will be back after.

Mockingbird 2. Bobbi saves Lance from the London Hellfire Club in one of the several in-between flashbacks from the first issue. So far so good.

Moon Knight 1. First Issue(this is like MKs 30th "first" issue but whatevs). Mark Spector wakes up in an asylum and isn't sure if Moon Knight was real or if it's always been in his head.

Silver Surfer 3. Surfer's 50th Anniversary Issue. Shalla Bal and the ZennLavians are culture forming Earth into a new ZennLa and SS uses all his power cosmic to reverse the transformation, killing him in the process.

Darth Vader 19. The uprising on Shu-Torun is ended. Thanoth finds Aphra and wants to chat with Vader about it.

C-3PO Oneshot. The story of how Threepio got his red arm is about as dull as you'd imagine. I want my $5 back.

Weirdworld 5. As Morgan LeFay's molten army attacks Jennifer Kale's Swamp Thing army, the girl, the chick barbarian, and the cat wizard are trying to get through the battlefield and a dog pilot in his WWI fighter plane helps them. Yes, this book is pretty awesome.

AN X-Men 8. Young Hank wants to go back to the past and asks Dr. Strange for help. Strange says no.
