Cheap DVD buys

movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.

I'm fairly sure I'll be going to Target sometime tomorrow; they're supposed to have some $4 DVDs that could be good, so we'll see. Walmart is also having some DVDs on sale for $2 and $5, and the ads showed some good ones. Hopefully the crowds won't be too shitty.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

Picked up Tropic Thunder for $5 and Seven and Shoot 'Em Up for $2 each at Walmart tonight.

I'll swing by Best Buy tomorrow and see what they've got. I wanted to grab Pineapple Express there for $7.

The only DVD I got at Target was Superbad for $4, as my sister took the copy we had to San Francisco with her. I didn't go to Walmart, so eh, oh well.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

Hellboy II for me. Didn't see any other worthwhile ones. I considered Tropic Thunder, having finally seen it Wednesday night, but wasn't sure whether to go for the regular or director's version. All my brother-in-law's DVDs are bootlegs, and he wasn't sure which version he had, but was really vocal about some good lines being missing.

I've noticed that Walmart has 10 episodes of the 2002 Masters of the Universe in the $5 bin.
Is it worth the $5? I barely remember it.

Yeah, the show was excellent, but you can get the more comprehensive sets for not much more. It mightn't be a bad idea to check that out, though, and see if you want more. I've got to warn you, however, that the planned season 3 (with the Snake Men and the return of Hordak) never materialized, and the series was never really continued in any other format.

Target had a dvd with 9 episodes of the Dungeons & Dragons animated series for $5. They also had season 1-volume 1 of Ultraman for the same price.

Stopped at Big Lots today and looked in the $3 bin. Got another Three Stooges DVD. Nothing else they had was really interesting, although they had a Best of Beakman's World DVD. I forgot all about that show. If I remember correctly, isn't it a cross between Pee-Wee's Playhouse and Mr. Wizard?

Saw some new stuff at Big Lots (which makes sense, since I've not been there in ages). Among others, Chinatown, Death Wish, Rattle and Hum, and Black Snake Moan.

If you've got Costco membership, they've been getting some classic kids shows for cheap.

$8.99: Ducktales volumes 1-3, Chip 'n' Dale's Rescue Rangers volumes 1-2, Tailspin volume 1, Darkwing Duck volume 1
$13.99: The Muppet Show volumes 2-3 (and possibly #1, which I haven't seen yet?)

Already had the first volumes of Ducktales and Chip 'n' Dale, so I got the others for those two shows and grabbed Darkwing. Never could get into Tailspin, so I passed, even at that price.

Darkwing is every bit as awesome as I remember, even if the music is so ridiculously dated, I expected MC Hammer to jump out of the screen and challenge Michael Jackson to a dance-off so he could give his glove to Rick James and then they could all enjoy an Arch Deluxe at McDonalds after catching Dirty Dancing. (Yeah, the years don't quite line up. Fuck you.)

Also saw a super loaded edition of Dreamgirls at Ross for $6.99, with the 2-disc DVD and the 2-disc soundtrack. Mrs A wanted that, and I've had it on my "to-see" list for a while.

Black Snake Moan makes me hyperventilate.

I'm waiting for TF 2 to drop to five bucks so I can buy it for my son. I try to convince him there is only one true Transformers movie and it came out in 1986, but he whines about it everytime we are in WalMart. I get through the first one by doing a MST3K running commentary much to the delight of my daughter, but the boy gets mad at me.

Love that movie. Very underrated, IMO.

Sam Jackson is awesome (naturally) and sings the blues & Christina Ricci is hot and naked.
