In a nice coincidence I grabbed the Director's Cut of the late 90's Mel Gibson flick Payback. I've been re-reading early issues of Criminal and Ed Brubaker was raving about it and how much different (and darker) it was from the theatrical cut. It went under heavy reshoots and changes before it was originally released to be more like a semi-dark Lethal Weapon type of flick. Now it's been restored to the director's original version - a very dark and brutal noir film. And this may seem totally asinine to some, but the D.C. actually removes Kris Kristofferson from the flick. I've never seen the original version, but this cut had me very interested.

Also grabbed Terminator 2 since I didn't already have it. Blasphemous, I know.

I may pick up Pineapple Express before the sale is over.

Why would anyone remove Kris Kristofferson from a movie? I thought all director's cuts were originally designed to get him into the movies!

From what I've read he was added to the movie during reshoots when the studio wanted a different type of film. His character was originally (and is now again) a woman.

picked up transporter 2 for $5 when i want to wallymart to pick up 'adventureland'. also, check the 'what toys did you buy...' thread topic.

I picked up a replacement copy of Half Nelson (which mysteriously disappeared) at Big Lots for $3.

Also grabbed The Animatrix for the same price. Haven't seen it since it came out and I remember some of it being pretty cool...before the Matrix sequels came and sucked ass.

Stopped at Big Lots. There was a bunch of new stuff - all crap.

My Big Lots recently got a shit ton of new $3 DVDs. There wasn't much that screamed "BUY ME NOW!" but there were some newer flicks in there (Goya's Ghosts and The Ruins are the two that spring to mind).

They also had a couple copies of The Adventures of Baron Munchausen. I know there are some peeps that dig that flick so I thought I'd mention it.

The only thing I've seen new recently was A Wish for Wings That Work, the nearly forgotten Bloom County Christmas special.

If any of you don't have it, I recommend making a trip to Big Lots right now. It's a shame it's not better known, as it's as good as A Charlie Brown Christmas, and better than a lot of the old Christmas specials.

At Marshall's, I picked up the mack-daddy collectors edition of The Wizard of Oz (for Anarky Jr, who loves that movie) -- the previous packaging, not the one that just came out -- for $14.99. Seemed pretty good, since the new version, with a nicer box but seemingly less bonus stuff, costs twice that. Also got Gone With The Wind (the standard version, single disc) for $3.99.

Ross had a bazillion copies of the extended, 4-disc version of Return of the King for $4.99. Just Return of the King; none of the others, but a bazillion copies. Not sure if they seriously overproduced this one, or if the others went to different Ross stores.

Thanks for the heads up. I found a Big Lots and grabbed A Wish for Wings That Work. The only other notable DVDs they had were Connan the Barbarian (Widescreen), Half Baked (Dave Chapelle & Jim Breuer), and James Bond: The Man With The Golden Gun.

Went to Big Lots today, mostly to get out of the house. Found Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid (2-disc edition) for $3. I've always wanted to see it, the soundtrack kicks all sorts of ass, and I figure a movie must be great if it stars James Coburn, Kris Kristofferson, and Bob Dylan, so I picked it up.
