i know, that SHOULD have been the actual poster. as it is, it was a limited (to 100) edition print that went out to cast and crew. idiots.

Shit, if that were the actual poster, the movie would completely shatter Avatar's box office record. Within two hours of the premiere, even. Who could say no to an awesome vintage-styled painting of a patriotic superhero punching history's greatest cocksucker?

There's something about the tagline from the newest trailer that's so unapolegetically UN-PC in its Nationalism that I got all giggly watching it.

HEROES.
ARE MADE.
IN AMERICA.

I went to this Friday and it rocked something fierce. I really enjoyed it. It didn't take itself too seriously, but it wasn't campy at all. There were lots of fun little EasterEggs like Phineas Horton's Android at the World's Fair. There was a Wilhelm scream during the motorcycle chase scene. The Avengers Trailer at the end went by too fast. I wanted to rewatch it several times in a row, I was Squeeeeing so much.

Saw it Friday in 2-D (fuck paying more to see a tricked out version, I'd rather see it how it was made) and really dug it. I liked it bettter then Iron Man for the simple fact that it seemed much more like a proper, old-timey movie, way less obvious riffing and improv. I was really happy with how the film managed to make a whole shit-ton of fairly excellent points that were not actually important to the film if one was not inclined to pursue them.
I am in a rush right now but I will put down a... fuller version of my thoughts on the film in the VERY near future. Overall tho, what could have been an insulting piece of jingoiism managed to be pretty much the polar opposite while still keeping right true to the source material, a really solid entry into the Marvel Universe.

I saw it Friday afternoon also and I loved every minute of it.
I think it may be on par with (or maybe even better than) Iron Man in these pre-Avengers stories.

Joe Johnson make a great nostalgic, fun WWII era flick (see also: The Rocketeer). The United States in Cap is the 1940s America that we all remember where every man, woman and child is a flag wavin', bond buyin', scrap metal collectin', Hitler hatin' American Patriot...even if we weren't alive to remember it.

Even though it takes a while to get to Steve Rogers' transformation, the set up and origin doesn't feel at all tedious (like Spider-Man). The moral messages don't feel cheesy and forced. And the aforementioned patriotism isn't corny.

Everyone involved in the this movie really seemed to care, and it shows. And I suspect many of the great jokes are courtesy of Joss Whedon's script polishing. It has his style of humor written all over it.

I've really got to hand it to Marvel's casting. With the exception of The Incredible Hulk, they really know how to cast their flicks. Everyone in Cap is great.

The skinny Steve Rogers effects were outstanding.

The music was great. The stage show had an authentic 1940s vibe to it. And that stage costume was hilarious.

The Avengers setup doesn't feel as forced as it did in Thor or Iron Man 2.

The Avengers trailer gave me a chubby.

Yeah, even though I KNEW it was digital trickery, I was so engrossed in the person I didn't even notice it. They could just as well have stuck a skinny Chris Evans' head on a stunt person's beefcake body and the effect would've been the same. You couldn't tell.
The Avengers trailer gave me a chubby.
And then some. When this gets released on DVD during the Holidays, I'm gone be freeze-framing every frame of that sumbitch and rubbing one out.

Also, I just figured out who the hot SHIELD agent at the end is. She's the younger hot CBI agent from The Mentalist. Giggity.

The only hot chick that plays a SHIELD agent that I know of is the hot chick from How I Met Your Mother AKA Unfunny Unwatchable Piece Of Shit Friends Knock Off Only Somehow More Shitty Than Friends. She plays Maria Hill and is on the big Avengers banner.
Oh, and our first look at the new Hulk.
And the first full look at Hawkeye.

Kate Mara played a hot SHIELD agent in Iron Man 2...oh wait, she was a U.S. Marshal. But she was still hot. Maybe SHIELD will recruit from the U.S. Marshal's office in The Avengers. Also, no doubt for the Captain America sequel, they will cast a smokin' hot blonde to play Sharon Carter. Hot SHIELD agents comin' out the woodwork Y'all!!

I'm not too up on my Cap comic history, but doesn't he initially mistake Sharon Carter for her Aunt Peggy or Grandmother Peggy?
If so, just get the same chick to play her.

I really liked Thor, I loved Captain America, I loved Iron Man (and thought Iron Man 2 was decent), and I thought Incredible Hulk was kinda cool...so I'm really looking forward to The Avengers, for which the teaser trailer looked really cool.

But how effing long is this movie going to be? 4 or 5 hours, to cram all this stuff into it?

I remember thinking the same thing when I saw the Phantom Menace trailer.

I saw it today & really liked it. The positives were WAY more than enough to outweigh my reservations, which were about stylistic stuff NOT about the story, characters or acting at all. I can sum it up fairly well in 2 words I think: delicious cheese. Right now, this movie is way up there with Spider-Man 2 as a top, top tier Marvel effort. Skinny Steve was way, way realistic. My God.

Captain America 2 has a short list of directors.

F. Gary Gray? He has a decent resume, but doesn't really light my fire.
George Nolfi? No. Adjustment Bureau was boring and forgettable. And Oceans Twelve?! Gawd no.

Joe and Tony Russo? YESSSS!!! Between them both, they directed like 15 episodes of Arrested Development! Including the pilot!!!
Search is over!!!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the official title for the sequel.

No telling what it'll be about though.
