Semi-Dayley dose of METAL

uh, y'know, the sounds that sound good together... sometimes... and sometimes sounds like the disgusting "squish squish" sound Slicker's mom makes whenever she walks

Hey, mabs, heard of a band called Helix? I found a CD of theirs at WM for three bucks, could tell it was definitely some sort of metal, and took a chance. It's not bad--sounds like hair metal, not on par with, say, Motley Crue, but better than something like Warrant (if you exclude "Cherry Pie," which is fucking awesome). Looks like they're Canadians, so I figured maybe they were huge up there. Either that, or you're fucking sick of them. I think the album cover definitely deserves a nod as "The Album Cover That's Most So Incredibly Not Metal That It Somehow Loops Around And Becomes Really Fucking Metal, Kinda Like All Those Lame 1980s Scorpions Album Covers." It's so lame, it's funny.

well I haven't heard anything recent by them, but they were pretty huge in the early days of music videos.
They made this gem which is what they are best remembered for, it's actually a pretty funny video

Seen them do this as first encore on their 30th anniversary tour, all 3 sitting on hay-bales with acoustics, it was fucking magical :mabs:

An interview featuring Lemmy, Joey DeMaio (from MANOWAR) and Ronnie James Dio, all on the same set, I never knew this happened but I am stunned that the event was able to be captured on any kind of device due to the sheer awesomeness of such a gathering

Good find, although the subtitles reminded me of the opening of Monty Python's Holy Grail.

Mabs, you didn't tell me Metallica used to open for Raven back in the day. I heard they have many parallels with Anvil. I assume you already know this, but they have a new album out.

didn't know Raven was making another album, weird- they just aren't the same as they used to be tho...

I am finally in the proper stage of "mourning" to post up a piece of DIO. His passing and the subsequent total lack of coverage of it was a bit rough on me, honestly, but I have been digging a lot of DIO in this past week. Here (for the non-facebox types) is a weird alternate take of one of my faves,

Monday's Eddie Trunk's XM radio show was a tribute to Ronnie James Dio. He had a bunch of former band mates of Dio's and other musicians call in. They also opened the phones to fans. A lot of people took his passing pretty hard. Everyone said he was one of the nicest people you'd ever meet.

You know you are truly metal when Pat Boone does a joke cover of your signature song in big band style, and it's still cool. And when you aren't afraid of ruining your rep by singing backup on said cover.

see if you can figure out the "secret message" in this song. Somehow it took me years before it hit me and now I can't listen to hardly 30 seconds of it before I can't stop laughing....

Is "back door" the key word in the lyrics?

Pretty much yes, enriched by the couplet "Now I got a baby, and we try different ways... she didn't want to do it, but she did anyway"... also the falsetto on "looooooooose" is pretty funny once you realize that the entire song is about tricking a girl into anal, it's like a simulation of the first time or something.

I was stunned at how damn rude the tune truly is
