What have you watched lately?

movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.

dude, seriously? what could possibly be the distinction you're attempting to make here? here's the Merriam-Webster definition of rape:
unlawful sexual activity and usually sexual intercourse carried out forcibly or under threat of injury against a person's will or with a person who is beneath a certain age or incapable of valid consent because of mental illness, mental deficiency, intoxication, unconsciousness, or deception
non-consensual sex == rape. pretty cut-and-dry.
It was my (apparently) piss-poor attempt at humor, making fun of the way I've seen it worded in reviews/posts.
Yes, Wonder Woman raped a dude.

Look, if vyn wants to jump down DB's throat, and Ran is going to record it and post it to superdupergaybeejays-dot-org, that's none of my business.

The Peanut Butter Falcon - a sweet movie about a young man with down syndrome with dreams of being a wrestler and his journey with Shia LaBeouf.

Garden State - I hadn't seen this movie in several years. I loved it so much back in the day in my mid-20s, I wasn't sure it would still hold up for me. Its still a great film, although I now see a few flaws in it. Zach Braff showed some real writing/directing talent. And Natalie Portman is amazing here (which is one of the shall problems - her character may be too perfect, almost cliché perfect). And such a great soundtrack.

Watched part of Matrix 2 and 3 this weekend. Didn't make it completely through either. They both feel dated. By the way, I searched "Matrix". There is not specific topic for those movies, but there were 10 pages of results.

The King. A Netflix film that’s sort of an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Henry V and also “real” historical drama. Had Timothy Chalamet, Joel Edgerton, Sean Harris, and Robert Pattinson. I’m digging they’re still making these old school historical dramas. While I was watching the final battle at the end, it occurred to me that nobody could possibly know who was on which side when everyone is wearing the same steel colored armor and everybody is covered in mud. The “friendly fire” ratio back then must’ve been staggering.

Passenger 57. This movie is barely over an hour long. But Bruce Payne’s scenery chewing villain is so fucking over the top hilarious, I was kinda rooting for him. I hardly recognized Elizabeth Hurley in one of her very first roles.

GIJane. Demi Moore trains as a Navy SEAL. Fucking love Viggo in this as the Command Master Chief.

Ocean’s Eleven. Holy shit, this movie is 20 years old? Egads.

Earwig and the Witch: A lesser Ghibli film (not their worst by any means, but definitely not their best), meaning it's still better than 99% of American animation. It's a solid enough family film, and definitely worth taking advantage of WB's decision to release all 2021 films to HBO Max to watch.

Killer soundtrack that encompasses a really wide range of styles, too.

Birds of Prey and the Continuous Badtardizaton of One Harley Quinn - finally got around to watching this fine example of mediocrity. Lots of wasted talent. Cinematic Harley is fine until you compare her to better versions everywhere else. And how the fuck are you going to take place in Gotham and not even have a Batman cameo?

Once again I was channel surfing and ended up on The Hobbit: Battle of the 5 armies. This has happened a few times before, and usually I turn it on right around the start of the battle. I'm not sure I've seen the very beginning of the movie since it came out in 2014. This time I tuned in much earlier in the film than I had in a while because it was like I never saw that part of the movie. I barely even remembered Saruman, Elrond, and Galadriel saving Gandalf. Maybe I need to watch the whole thing from start to finish again.

I did Man of Steel & BVS extended version to prep for Snyder's Justice League & those weren't as bad I remembered them to be... I could likely rewatch the Hobbit to see if my opinion changes.

I rewatched BvsS again with the understanding that Lex had literally dropped every breadcrumb Clark and Bruce were following in the movie, and narratively it makes the movie easier to watch. It also, however, makes Clark and Bruce the two dopiest people alive. So if you’re into character assassination of your favorite DC heroes...

Boss Level - Groundhog’s Day style shoot ‘em up action movie directed by Joe Carnahan with Frank Grillo as a guy who keeps getting assassinated every morning and keeps reliving the same day over and over and surviving a little bit more each day to figure out who’s killing him and why. Cheesy B-movie that I fucking loved and would definitely rewatch. It’s on Hulu.
