Trank was directing an unannounced Star Wars Story, although it was widely believed to be Boba Fett.

And then Fant4stic happened and Trank is now directing cars in and out of a carwash somewhere.

I still want to see his cut of Fantastic Four before Fox jumped in and totally fucked it all up.
There were some tiny bits of potential in that flick.

I still haven't braved it yet. Maybe I'll see if it's on Netflix.

I have a confession. I bought Fant4stic out of the cheap bluray bin at WalMart a few weeks ago. Because I have an addiction to owning all comic book movies.

Upon second viewing, I can say the first third of the movie is okay. Mostly because the actors are investing in their performances. It's not great, but it's okay. Stupid, but okay. But at that point it isn't even really an FF movie, it's just a generic sci-fi scientist movie. It falls off the rails when they stupidly go to Planet X, at which the point the movie nosedives, crashes into the ground, and then actively starts burrowing into the bedrock of the planet because crashing wasn't going down far enough. It's fucking painful to watch. How much of it is Trank's fault and how much is the studio interference becomes academic because frankly, they are both equally to blame for ABUSING Stan and Kirby's creation in such a manner. Marvel has a legitimate case for Fox doing irreparable harm to their property and getting the contract dissolved on those grounds.

I caught most of The People vs. George Lucas this morning. I didn't know that Lucas campaigned against Ted Turner when he was colorizing all the black and white movies. The movie actually had me debating myself. Did it bother me more that the prequels sucked, or that people claimed they were good and defended them? Anyway, then football came on and I lost interest in my own debate.

And the Bills actually played well. Bizarro Sunday.

JJ Abrams is coming back for Episode IX.
I'm glad, but kinda shocked after his reported problems with Kathleen Kennedy during the production of TFA.

Yeah, with Justice League.

Pssshhhh...he'll be done with that in a few weeks. Episode "Icks" is two years away.

Visionaries need not apply. Lucasfilm doesn't want a voice.
They want directors that will tow the line and make it all the same looking, cookie cutter Star Wars brand.
I can't see him coming back without a large degree of creative freedom.

Besides, the last time Whedon worked with Disney/Marvel, it basically broke him for a while.

Kasdan story, Abrams shoots it & Whedon tidies up the dialogue from arms reach so he doesn't have to get all stressed out. Pay them & get it happening.

I think JJ's "positive" (I know parts were gloomy but I stand by the fact that TFA was a largely FUN movie) vibe is going to stand in stark contrast to the what I'm assuming will be a nail biter in TLJ from Johnston. I'm not sure if we need to flip all the way back. Hopefully they're careful with it.

I've been watching Rebels.

This show is incredible. I'm a bit shocked by how good it is.

Plus, it's like a love letter to the high points of the EU, while ditching a lot of bullshit. One episode in particular said Ezra was "captured by a new Imperial starship" in the guide description. The ep stated in hyperspace, and I said, "I'm going to scream with glee if this is an Interdictor Cruiser." Then, sure enough, a smallish Star Destroyer with four gravity wells pulls them from hyperspace and I just about lose it.
