Here's a rundown of whats shakin' in the Marvel U. ( Excluding X-Stuff) ( and Ultimates)

Amazing Spidey. I LOVE Deodato's art. But I think JMS has run out of ideas. Let's face it, that Gwen Stacy storyline sucked about the biggest balls a comic story ever has. I'm gonna read the "Other" crossover, but if it stinks, I'm dropping ASM ( I don't bother with the other two Spidey books) I'll get my Spidey fix in...

(New)Avengers. Man this book kicks ass. Bendis is a writing legend. Watching Wolverine and Luke Cage ineract with Captain America and Spidey is perfect. They could just sit around in the Avengers penthouse and not actually do anything super heroic and this book would be worth buying. Now we've got the mysterious Ronin storyline. Which they are trying to make you think is Elektra, but I think that's a red herring. I think it's Shang-Chi, but I think the real kicker is that Ronin will actually be a different hero every time, leading up to it eventually being Matt Murdock in the costume. THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ.

Black Panther. I bought up the first two issues. But since I can't stand Romita's art and they were just rehashing his origin for the umpteenth time. I could care less. DROPPED.

Captain America. Brubaker is spinning an exciting yarn. Despite bringing Bucky back a cryo frozen cyborg Commie assassin, I actually finish each issue wondering where the story will go. And that's all any book can do. Make you come back next month. HIGH RECOMENDATION.

Daredevil. Alas, Bendis and Maleev are leaving. But Brubaker is coming on board, and since he's doing solid work on Cap, I'll stick around for an issue or three. But anything after bendis is gonna be a falloff. I'm just interested in seeing what Ed will do with the mess Bendis promised he's gonna leave the character in. Sounds awesome.

Defenders. Wacky fun stuff from the guys that brought us the Justice League back in the 80's Giffen, Dematteis and Maguire. Watching Strange and Namor constantly sniping is hilarious. They don't seem to grasp the Silver Surfer, instead using him as a one joke punchline, but mostly its just fun to watch a super team bicker more than save the world.

Exiles. Sort of a mutie book, but I also look at this as kind of the heir apparent to What If...? What if...? was cool when it was good. I'm glad they're sort reinstating it as as a kind of annual event where every December they release a handful of one shots. This is book is pretty good when it's good, and not so good the rest of the time. IN DANGER.

Fantastic Four. it took me about ten issues to realize that McNiven was only doing the covers on MK4, so I dropped that one. I've tentative about reading JMS run on the regular title since he's been kinda dropping the ball on ASM, but I dig Mike McKone's art and so far the story has been fast paced and the characterizations have been spot on. So for now its on my buy list.

Ghost Rider. Excellent limited series with gorgeous art. HIGH RECOMENDATION.

Hulk. After Bruce Jones apocalyptically letdown finale of his conspiracy story. Is it just me or did he get bored with his own byzantine plot and just...end it? Then we a weak Peter David story which gets waylaid by an even weaker House of M tie in. They say big things are happening next year with the Hulk, but as of right now...DROPPED.

Iron Man. Ugh. First off, this series started at the same time as Captain America. Cap's on issue 12, this one is on issue 4. Second. Nothing has happened in those four issues. Some bad guy whupped Iron Man's ass and Tony Stark is gonna "take the next step" in Armor Evolution. Other than that it's been a bunch of philosophical talk about obscure authors that you only have to read in advance Graduate classes. Boring and Boring. DROPPED.

Punisher. Wow. Hardcore ass whupping thanks to the MAX imprint. Lots of swearing and titties and violence. The way the Punisher should be. Frank Castle is a fucking sociopath thanks to Garth Ennis and yet it's compelling to watch him month after month. I mean, he erased his closest friend's head with a point blank shotgun blast because he "betrayed" him. ( We'll miss you Microchip) MUST READ.

Runaways. I've actually never read this, but everyone keeps giving it tons of kudos. And going on about how hot little Julie Power from Power Pack is now. That's just sick.

Supreme Power. Gone as we know it. The Nighthawk book is pretty good. The Hyperion book slightly less so. When its all done we'll have Marvel Knights Squadron Supreme which doesn't sound like it can live up to the previous series. I'll probably get the first issue or arc, but this ones is definitley on the chopping block.

Young Avengers. A strong start about the next group of Marvel heroes. Lets hope they don't turn into the next New Warriors.

That's about 50% of what's being offered by the House of Ideas right now. Who can keep track of everything they deluge os with? But that's basically the tentpole rundown.

God, EP, just caught up on New Avengers - and the Sentry storyline was absolutely amazing. I didn't think Bendis had the Avengers in him - but that opinion has changed. Fucking AMAZING art too, in case anyone missed it. Brian Michael Bendis IS the new Stan Lee - and if any of you know me a t all by now, you know I wouldn't say that jokingly. Outstanding.

Whassup crackers? Good comparison between Bendis and Lee, JJ. I've been doing some major dropping from my list lately, but his stuff definitely makes the cut. My store had a 50% off sale and I picked up a bunch of New Thunderbolts for dirt cheap. I've always liked Tom Grummett's art and the story is like reading vintage 80's "Super Hero" comics without all that gritty realism and high falutin' psychologist inner angst stuff prevalent in todays comics. i mean its good and all, but sometimes you just need a bunch of heroes ( or in this case ex-villains) in their secret lair fighting off an Atlantean invasion and Baron Strucker. Good campy stuff.

Jesus, EP, I tawt you wuz sleepin' wit da fishes. Good to see you back. I just read my first dose of Uncanny in..... a long fucking time. Lot o'catchin up to do there.

Check out the Spidey crossover, PP took an ass whuppin from Morlun last week the likes of which I've NEVER seen him handed in 20 years of comics. Ugly, ugly stuff. I've been buying all the Spidey books to see what happens in this story, and haven't been disappointed yet (except for with Pat Lee's art - not suited to Spider-Man unfortunately).

Don't be such a stranger, EP!

Checked out Avengers 13, anyone? Very cool revelation as to who the masked ninja-style character was..... leave it to Bendis to dredge up one of his own skeletons to join the Avengers!

Read the latest 2 issues of Hulk as well, very nice art and a decent cool story - nice break from the shittiness that Peter David threw at us.

Civil War is on its way. This crossover is promising major shake-ups for every team and a tighter continuity across the board. Thank goodness. There've been some epic cool stories the last few years, but they lose their impact when theres no ripples into the other books. Like that Kang story in Avengers? Basically Kang took over earth and enslaved everybody in huge concentration camps, including heroes for like a year. You think something like that would get mentioned in FF or Spidey. Hopefully this will tighten stuff like that up.

And can we please use more than the same seven villains in all our fucking books? i swear Silver Samurai and the Wrecking Crew are the only free villains in circulation right now. Marvel claims to have 5000 proprietary characters. That means roughly 2500 villains. maybe somebody could do some research and USE THEM.

Guys, don't hesitate in buying the FF Special one shot that's on sale right now. Awesome story about Reed and Victor - highly recommended.

Oh, and Frank Cho's art in Avengers 14 might be the best comic art ever. Absolutely phenomenal.

My God, clowns are fucking terrifying. I'm just reading the Nighthawk ltd right now, and between it and "IT" - clowns are fucking terrifying. Jesus.

I like the spin on the Batman/Joker dichotomy they play with here. This guy has a permanent frown on his face. When the guy pissed on the floor and then nonchalantly sat down in his own puddle, I knew Daniel Way was crafting a severe psychopathic enemy for Nighthawk. I hope they can find a way to keep Nighthawk an ongoing MAX title. This guy is just too hardcore to be a bit player in a Marvel Knights book.

I love Steve Dillon. There's absolutely no one else like him... he can do psychopathy better than anyone. When one of his crazies (and I'm including Jessie Custer and Frank Castle on that list by the way) are giving you the "Thousand Yard Stare"... it's chilling. Love him or hate him - he's very, very good.

I wonder if they're going to have the Squadrom Supreme guys crossing over at all.... I kind of like it self contained myself. In a world with only those few heroes, we'd get to see more Nighthawk than if they lumped them in with all the other Marvels.

Speaking of Nighthawk, was that a fucking awesome conclusion or what?

Quick Trivia question. After starring in a handful specials and crossovers, three series numbering almost 150 issues combined, which Marvel Super Hero team went out like the ultimate bitches in New Avengers 16 this month? I'll give you a hint. They're Canadian. Seriously, they got a double page heroic spread on one page and then another double page spread of their bloody carcasses littering the snowy Canadian wasteland the following page. They made the Jedi in Episode III look like the 300 Spartans at Thermopylae.

Au revoir, Guardian, Vindicator, Puck, Sasquatch, Shaman and ermm...other two people. You will be missed. I'm sorry Bendis felt you guys didn't even rate a good going out with a bang issue. Although this is like the fourth or fifth time for Guardian. but still...

And the "leave no character under their stone for too long" award goes to Ed Brubaker for bringing back....Dakota North!! She's Foggy Nelson's new chief investigator! I wonder if her short run series from the 80's will spike in price now??

Alpha Flight died in someone else's book? And it's the Tiny Toons Take On The Avengers? That's cold. It was probably some mega-puss like Stegron responsible, right? Just another reason that Marvel currently blows almost as hard as they did right after the Onslaught debacle.

No, it was some alien fire-being that the Avengers are going to have to try and deal with next month - and we have not received confirmation yet that they're "dead" per se, but they were extrememly incapacitated for sure. I've read that Bendis wiped them out to set up for yet another relauch/revamping of that team.

Can anyone truly say whether or not those were the original members - the real Puck, Sasquatch and Shaman? Who was in the Guardian suit? I don't have any clue what's happened with Alpha Flight over their past 2 series.

Daredevil was great - but I think Brubaker is going to bring back Karen Paige somehow.
