thanks, man. yeah, i had yet to do a "large-scale" spidey pic, so yeah, i gave it more time and attention. a narrative page might be a possibility in the future, when i have the time to do it justice.

Nice work, especially Venom. That may be your best yet. I like how you opted for a more traditional-looking webslinger, as opposed to the weird "tentacle coming off the arm" shit some artists do with Venom.

i think the proportions are off, but whatever. at least i got a couple more sketches done.

Perusing through the impressive body of work you've amassed over the past couple months, I'm going to make an objective observation and offer you some actual constructive criticism.

On many of your full body character sketches, you tend to draw the head ever so slightly larger than is proportionate to the rest of the body. And it's so close that you can't even notice it directly. Only that something seems wrong. On your Spider-man sketches it actually works, because it gives it that Bagley Ultimate Spidey gangly teen look.

Your facial features are vastly improving. I am once again amazed by the Kari Byron sketch. I think most modern artists use reference photographs when drawing faces, as opposed to the old school Kirby style, so go with it. its working.

with the heads, i feel like i tend to draw them more human proportion than SUPERhuman proportion. heads are actually a LOT bigger than they are drawn in comics. i go back and forth, mostly subconsciously - not anything purposeful, on the proportions i use when drawing heroes. it'll most likely swing back the other way sometime down the road. it's a tough line, though, because if you draw the head too large, they start looking like midgets. too small, and they just look REALLY weird.

i also posted a sketch that i did a couple of days ago and wasn't all that thrilled with, but have since added to and felt was okay to post. plus it gets me closer to at least one a day for october. i wanted to make up for the days i missed in september, but alas, this month was fraught with downtime as well.

anyway, here's the headless horseman.

that's a good horse. do you sketch that kind of stuff from memory? Or are you glancing at a horsebook as you draw?

I know it's only a quick sketch, but you could do some really cool shading/lighting effects with that pumpkin head.

i generally look up photo reference for things like that. the internet is a godsend in that regard.

most likely if i added some depth to the entire thing through shading, i would be much happier with the outcome. that said, i just wasn't feeling it. maybe i'll revisit it when i have some more time and see what i can do.
