How I realized I was over Star Wars completely

movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.

My thinking is that Owen looked at R2 like you would look at a Buick a friend of a friend was driving when you were twenty, and then seeing another Buick when you were 50. You wouldn't think it was the same car because cars are fucking everywhere and uninteresting.

C-3PO would be the real key. Unlike Artoo, Owen had prolonged contact with him.

My guess is that memory wipes are so common, Owen assumed he'd been wiped when Threepio didn't recognize Owen or the homestead. (After all, he'd clearly been upgraded.) But when one of them got all talky about Kenobi, he insisted they get wiped the next day.

Also, the theory that Sidious used the Force to siphon Padmé's life from afar to create Vader (thus making his "you killed her" line somewhat true) is much better than Lucas's lame ass "lost the will to live" bullshit.

Look for and read a book called Darth Plagueis. It actually fixes almost every plot hole and dangling thread from TPM and makes that movie much better.

My hope: Disney will ease up on their usual "if it wasn't popular, we'll pretend it never existed" stance and we find out what happened to Jar Jar after ROTS.

It does happen in real life.

In a fantasy series, it's a lame end for a strong heroine. Take out her death, and Padmé could teach her daughter quite a bit out of badassery.

Owen not recognizing C-3P0 didn't bother me much. Seems like most protocol droids are metallic gold or chrome with the same voice. To go with Tom Foolery's car analogy, who remembers the license plate number of a car they had 20 years ago? Astromechs sound the same, but there color schemes seem to vary more. This is probably a weak argument, but is based on how I am. I am terrible at remembering names, but I recognize faces.

I have not read a Star Wars book in 14 years. Maybe I'll Darth Plagueis this winter. (Unless I get lazy and I can find a synopsis online). Does it clear up how Leia how claims to remember Padme?

Seems like Padme should have been able to overcome losing her bi-polar husband. For 2 movies Anakin went back and forth on how he owes everything to Obi-Wan, yet Obi-Wan was holding him back.

After giving Palpatine the power to run the galaxy, someone came to their senses and had a recall vote on Jar Jar. After getting kicked out of the Senate, he could have just retired on Naboo. He was a Guide thru the Center of the Planet, Galactic Adventurer, General, Senator...in a way, he was kind of the Forrest Gump of Star Wars, minus the likable part. It is still weird in TPM how none of the actors ever really look at him.

So, after reading interviews from Daisy Ridley and JJ Abrahams about what they meant in earlier interviews...

It appears that Luke is Rey's father, right?

If that's true, the collective look of shock on the world's face will look like this...

Well it was the obvious choice, then they worked like hell to throw curveballs at the fans so we wouldn't be so sure. The trouble with putting people off the trail like that & going with the obvious choice is that it feels like a letdown - as per Rollo's emoji.

To me, still by far the most plausible/best course for the story - the worst being her having been "fathered" by the midicholorians like Ani.

I still like the Obi-Wan theory.
Having a Skywalker train a Kenobi just brings the saga full circle. And Rey vs Kylo is more symbolic also.

I'm not sure what my issue is, but the whole "tsk tsk" attitude of Obi Wan when he discovers the Ani/Padme affair near the end of ROTS puts him on a pretty high horse for that particular moral issue. It would undo him a bit for me if he's the dad. I appreciate things get dry in the desert mind you.

Obi-Wan is not Rey's father. Not possible. She was born well after Obi-Wan died.
He could be her grandfather, even though it makes Obi-Wan a hypocrite ala ROTS.
(Although that could be the story of the rumored Obi-Wan movie after Episode 9)

Luke being the father just makes sense to me, based solely on TFA. The Skywalker lightsaber calls to Rey and that massive musical cue right before the Rey?Kylo fight is the Skywalker theme.
The only thing I question is: How/why doesn't anyone know or remember her? Did Luke "erase" her from everyone's mind with the Force to protect her when he dropped her off on Jakku?

Well, he might have kept her a secret from everyone. Since he was hiding her for a reason, I doubt he told everybody "btdubs, im hiding my secret love child on a shithole planet called Jakku. It's basically Tatooine 2.0. Don't be lookin for her or wev"
And even if they did know, he dropped her off when she was very little, so even if Han/Leia suspected it was her, there's a big difference between a three(?) year old they remember and a full grown woman.

If he didn't hide her, wouldn't she be a target for Kylo Ren and Snoke?

The other obvious question is 'who is the mother'?
