What have you watched lately?

movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine & The Wolverine. Had never seen either. I liked Japan better than part 1, but Green Lantern was actually half decent as Wade Wilson in the first one (until the end, that mask/cg/makeup was horrendous).

Watchmen Director's Cut - the Dr. Manhattan origin sequence, right as he's leaving for Mars, must have been drawn out a bit for this version as I don't recall it being nearly so long the first time I watched the movie. Not a complaint at all, it's fucking mesmerizing. I love this movie, and even though the violence is way over the top for me to show Thomas, it would rate right near the very top of all comic book, and even near the top of all action movies for me.

XO:W was pure shit. Ryan Reynolds was easily the only good part. That wasn't him at the end, BTW.

I was surprised it was as bad as it was, seeing as how it led to a sequel. I'm guessing both movies must have been green lit & signed for all in one deal.

Fanboys - my daughter actually found this on Netflix & badgered me into watching it with her. Much like Spaceballs, I had always put it off as I don't really like things taking the piss out of Star Wars and its fans - I guess I'm a little sensitive to that or something. Anyhow, it was surprising as there were a lot more cameos & appearances by people I actually like (ok, Kristen Bell, cat's out of the bag and I'm sure you're all shocked because she's not fucking gorgeous or anything)

than I was expecting, and I actually laughed a couple of times. Stupid, but enjoyable.

XO:W Made $180M, despite being shitty.

I liked Fanboys quite a bit. When it was first announced it sounded like it was going to make fun of star wars fans. It also had quite a rocky journey, is quite fascinating. The Weinsein's tried to fuck with it and brought in a second director to make it raunchier and meaner. Fans threw a fit and we ended up with a mostly original cut.

Absolutely nothin'. I haven't watched jack shit. Apparently we have Netflix now but I never get to use the TV as the partner is constantly glued to the sofa and clutching the remote. We switched ISP and my connection is like 28k dial up so no point attempting to download anything. I can't even get up to speed on the damn TMNT animated show with Seth Green's weird Leonardo voice. So I've been watching the same porn movies repeatedly. The more I watch the more abstract they become. I started to count how many times a particular shot is re-used or how many times one cameraman gets into frame. recognising dubbed grunts and groans from other porn movies. I don't think porn will ever be moving for me again.
I have never read any of your posts, but from what I can learn I should say that for people who like the kind of posts you deliver, they are just the kind of posts such people like.

Since my last proper post:

The Bad News Bears - the original. Classic.

Hot Tub Time Machine 2 - Insanely stupid, yet funny.

Miracle - on the anniversary of the miracle on ice.

Lost in Space - I've said it before and I'll say it again: I know this movie is terrible, but I like it.

Unfinished Business - Only worth seeing for Dave Franco - mofo is hilarious. The rest, meh.

Chappie - Not as good as District 9. Not as bad as Elysium. Turn off your brain and ignore the plot holes.

TV shows on Netflix:
Finished Arrow season 1 and started 2 - Good show.
Supernatural season 4 - Another good show that changes things up to prevent it from becoming stale.
Unbreakble Kimmy Schmidt season 1- Netflix's new series. Hilarious.

checked out RoboCop'14 on netflix. all in all it was enjoyable. not nearly as bad as i was anticipating based on word of mouth. some interesting moral quandaries about cybernetic augmentation and possible abuses thereof that weren't really touched upon in the original.
Life is short. STUNT IT!

The Interview. There was a ton of funny shit in this movie. I am jealous, so jealous, of the lives of James Franco & Seth Rogen. ><

Basic Instinct. Just flipping thought the channels and it was on one of the uncensored networks. Remember when this movie was a big deal?

Jeanne Tripplehorn is way the fuck hotter than Sharon Stone in that one.

I saw Kenneth Branagh's new remake of Ever After, Cinderella. Not as bad as I expected (even with Branagh at the helm). It was visually stunning, and about half the cartoon elements were adapted well (I thought the mice were handled better than I was expecting from the commercials).

Unfortunately, most of the other half of the cartoon bits were just made live action, which didn't work. The stepsisters were especially bad. And the rest, well, I really suspect there was a conversation along the lines of "We've got to flesh this out. But how? How did Ever After handle this? Just do that. Fuck it; not like anyone ever saw that obscure film." There were a few spots where the dialogue seemed lifted right out of EA.

The approach to the Fairy Godmother, making her fairly off-kilter, was good, but Helena Bonham Carter was woefully miscast. (Weird thing is, I wouldn't doubt the approach was because of her playing the role.) Sorry, put a wand in that woman's hand, you're asking people to think "Bellatrix LeStrange." Cate Blanchett was just fucking wasted on the one-dimensional stepmother (nothing against Angelica Huston, but I never thought she'd demolish Cate Blanchett at essentially the same role). One stepsister looked too much like HBC, which was distracting. Everyone else did well, particularly the "fuck you, Disney marketing, mention some of these people in your ads" Derek Jacobi as the king.

All in all, hardly a masterpiece, but worth watching in spite of the issues. Branagh could probably make a watchable movie using "TWAS THE NITE B4 DOOSH DAY!!!" as the script and acted by The Grin and Snarf. You just probably won't re-watch it.

The Frozen short, though, was a cobbled-together last minute abortion that lacked even the small amount of charm Frozen had. Olaf saved Frozen; here, he was as shitty as the rest of the mess. Also no Alan Tudyk.

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For - more of the same, just not as good. Clive Owen was better as Dwight. I realized while watching this that I've never read the comics for this particular segment which surprised me - I thought I had all of Sin City in one place or another. Guess I'll have to go back & see what else is missing. Hopefully not much....

End of Watch - Jake Gyllenhal & his mexican partner get into more shit in 1.5hrs than I could in 9000 careers. Only the witty banter between the partners saved this one from being unlikeable. Needed more Anna Kendricks in less clothing.

A Dame to Kill For was horrible. Marv's make up looked like silly putty.

I saw 7Fast7Furious7 the other night. I'd watched the other 6 last year to see if I could find out why they are so popular. The first 3 are absolute unwatchable dogshit, but the second 3 were find of fun, in that ridiculous over-the-top, shut your brain off kind of way. 7 was more of the same.
Also, I was curious as to how they were going to handle Paul Walker's unfinished stuff. There were three scenes that were pretty obvious. One was fairly early and you barely see his face. The second was a fight scene, primarily in a dark building. And the third was the "goodbye" scene at the end which was done well, but it still looked "off" because of the CG.
