The R2 was the biggest let down for me. The chrome seemed way to bright & the legs too skinny. The Sandtrooper looked pretty cool. The Lukes I saw had such horribly painted hair I couldn't look past it. I've still not seen Darth Maul, but he's not a consideration anyhow.

Ok Mr JJ, I have leftover "force effect" sitting here made from the same soft, clear blue plastic as the ones from the 2002-2003 Saga collection. It is quite small & coils tightly to go around someone's arm (or a pencil, just to describe the size of the center of the coil) 3x. Even when I stretch it out, I can't match it to any of the ones shown on the RS photo guide. I have all of the ones from my Geonosian warriors matched up with the figures (closest thing I could find).

IIRC, there were a couple of those included with Jedi.

On the subject of useless pack-ins, some of the AOTC-era figures came with laser blasts that just look stupid. I discovered that they work quite well (and look good) on G.I. Joes. Given that some of these figures you'd probably be better off donating to charity than trying to get actual money for, that might be a consideration if you still plan to display any Joes.

Yeah the Jedi force effects & blast effect phenomenon couldn't pass quickly enough. I can't think of any character I'd choose to display with them attached. I guess it looks ok around the Geonosian spears, but those were never electrified in the movie so far as I can remember - much like Dexter Jettster's kitchen tools (which also came with force/electrical effect pieces, which is I why I mentioned Dex in the first place - elsewise that wouldn't have made much fucking sense, now would it have?).

I saw the 6" Black Series a week or two ago.
I expected so much more.

I don't know if I posted it here or someplace else, but they're nowhere near Marvel Legends or even the Lord of the Rings larger scale figures - and those came out many years ago.

I haven't visited the other site in a while. Are BigB and others still defending these mounds of horse shit to the death? BigB seemed stubborn so I'm sure he'll keep up the charade...

Jar Jar Binks (Gungan Senator) had a long blue effect similar to the Geonosians, but the middle is much thinner than a pencil. Same goes for the Royal Guard. The Battle Droids (available in tan or maroon) had two blue effects that wrapped around its arms and legs. Yoda and Aayla Secura had Force lightning effects that wrapped around their arms (well, Yoda's was to simulate him lifting part of his base).

Aside from a few other figures like the POTJ Boomer Damage Battle Droid and various Sith figures, I can't think of other figures with anything like what you described. If you post a photo I bet I could identify it.

I dunno, I liked them at the time. Some of the ridiculous ones (like Dex's, or the swirly twirly gumdrop effects that some Jedi had) I could do without, and display the figures without the stuff attached. But I think the blaster effects add some cool visual pop to dioramas. The current Black Series Darth Vader figure's blast effect is kind of reminiscent of them but more accurate to what it actually looked like on screen.

And while the Geonosians didn't have thick blue electric coils, I believe they were at least somewhat electrocuted, like when one of them tries to poke the Nexu and gets killed. The figure's spear (and overall design) was based on concept art, and the ones in the film are much less "wild" and more refined (later figures made the change).

Beast is the one that will kill you if you look at these figures sideways. BigBarada is mostly all about the low-articulation figures, but he did recently talk up the 6" Sandtrooper.

I saw them at a few Targets a week or so ago. The paint wasn't too awful for the most part, but it wasn't where I wanted it to be for $20 - weird red streaks on the Sandtrooper and misaligned blue on R2 were the biggest issues. Yeah, the prototypes under studio lighting look better than the actual products, but I thought they were pretty cool in person. I'd still like to at least get Maul or something to get a feel for these before dismissing them entirely.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

Here it is, and there's only the one. All of the figures you mentioned I have bagged up with the appropriate force effects.

Didn't the Royal Guard, Dexter, and/or someone else come with two effects?

Dex came with 2, and the battle droids came with 2 darker blue ones each. The Royal Guard & Geo Warrior came with 1 longer one each. This is similar to the one that went around the leg of the battle droids but it's the wrong color.

Thanks for the photo. Hmm, while Dex, the Boomer Damage Battle Droid, and this awful Emperor had small pieces, they were different shapes than this one. Frankly I'm currently drawing a blank, but I'll check my shelves next time I'm at my parents' house.

After looking at my collection yesterday, the closest thing I could find was the Sith lightning effect from the 2003 "Saga" Darth Tyranus figure. Is it possible that the piece is the coil that wraps around his arm and has somehow broken off from the main lightning piece?
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

Piles of horse shit or not, I've purchased Darth Maul, R2-D2, and Luke from the 6" line. My only real point of reference here is the 3 3/4" SW line since I don't really collect anything else - mainly meaning I can't compare them to other 6" lines. But by and large they are pretty fucking cool. The level of articulation on Maul and Luke allows for a wide range of realistic poses. They're not the new wonders of the world, and they aren't going to knock Sideshow out of business, but as big action figures they're awesome.

It took quite a while to find figures with good paint, though. The Target where I got these had several copies of each - I bought the best-looking and they're still a little sloppier than I'd like. Hasbro kind of has to get their shit together on this one. But at least these figures aren't falling off the goddamn fucking cards in the store . . .
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.
