The comparison I saw was to Christian Slater's Mobsters.
Frank Darabont is doing a TV series based in that era. Or you can always go play LA Noire, the video game. That's pretty bitchin'.

Re: What have you watched lately?
For some reason I remember Greystoke: Legend of Tarzan being ok, but last time I saw it was on VHS. Not that I had any intention of ever watching it again.
I will play LA Noire eventually. Right now I'm in the middle of Red Dead Redemption. Max Payne 3 is next. Come to think of it, I never finished GTA4 because I got sidetracked playing the two Batman games.
Ever get the feeling you need to branch out and play a different genre of video game?

I thought Mobsters was decent. Not great by any stretch, but not bad.
Oh, I hope my boner subsides before my parents come to visit.RoIIo Tomassi wrote:Frank Darabont is doing a TV series based in that era.

Eh. I don't like 1st Person Shooters. Or games with zombies.Ran wrote:I will play LA Noire eventually. Right now I'm in the middle of Red Dead Redemption. Max Payne 3 is next. Come to think of it, I never finished GTA4 because I got sidetracked playing the two Batman games.

I prefer the 3rd persons with a narrative of some kind. In a sandbox. And preferably with lots of side missions. So, all them RockStar games. Assassin's Creed. Just Cause. Mafia. That kind of stuff.
GTA V comes out in a couple months. Boner!
That was pretty much my assessment of Gangster Squad.anarky wrote:I thought Mobsters was decent. Not great by any stretch, but not bad.

I watched the 2010 movie Catfish last night, since my sister and dad are all into the TV show. It was okay - the storyline itself was pretty interesting, but I was distracted since I really couldn't tell if it was real or fake. I think there is enough evidence to support either claim.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

Saw Django Unchained and it was every bit as enjoyable as I thought it would be.
And I saw the new Trailer for GIJoe and got excited for it all over again. When Cobra blows up London I literally wanted to high five the screen.

Remember this moment... the moment when you were still convinced the movie might not suck.RoIIo Tomassi wrote:And I saw the new Trailer for GIJoe and got excited for it all over again. When Cobra blows up London I literally wanted to high five the screen.

I don't know what it was, maybe Cobra Commander strutting across the screen in full regalia, or a HissTank pulling up in front of the White House, or what. But the movie looks full on cornball GIJoe cartoon come to life. If nothing else, I think this director is a fan of Joe in the way that first asshole never was or could be.

Pee Wee's Big Adventure (1985). Yup. Seen it a few dozen times before, and watched it tonight with Anarky Jr for the first time. She really got a kick out of the dinosaurs (the real ones used are about ten minutes from here, and she's seen them many times).
Almost thirty years old. Christ. That makes me feel so damned old. Still, it's every bit as funny as it's ever been. Pee Wee's shtick should get old, but it doesn't. And the way the whole thing kinda seems set in some nebulous period before the 80s makes it seem timeless. I'd give my left nut to see Herman, Burton, and Hartman collaborate on a new PW film. Hell, I'd give both nuts and six more nuts I don't have; I've said before, Hartman was one of the great underappreciated geniuses.
I didn't remember Milton Berle being in it, though. Given that the clowns in Pee Wee's nightmare are clearly based on Cesar Romero's Joker, I'll chalk it up to Burton's trying for a Batman movie years before it happened, and delude myself into thinking the villains of Batman Forever would've been Two-Face and Louie the Lilac if Burton had directed it.
(Off subject, but do you ever wonder how fucking Tommy Lee Jones could've failed as Two-Face? If the character were written right and not as a fucking numbskull dipshit, that would've been some stellar casting. Then again, Clooney as Batman should've been good, too.)

I'm watching The Wizard of Oz again. I can't lie when I say that I love this moving more that AOTC. Although a swift kick to the balls is better than AOTC.

Agreed. Along with Mary Poppins and the original Muppet Movie, it's a tryptych of Joyousness.Slicker wrote:I'm watching The Wizard of Oz again. I can't lie when I say that I love this movie...

Independence Day. That movie gets more cheesy every time I see it. So many coincidences, it would make a Star Wars EU writer cringe.

Silver Linings Playbooks. The very watchable mental illness romantic comedy with a bunch of Oscar noms.
Even though I really liked it, I felt it became fairly routine and predictable in the final act.
And Jennifer Lawrence is hot.

The Last Stand. Dumb, but fun action movie with Ahnuld as a small town Sherriff stopping a drug lord from making it to Mexico thru his small town. It's fun watching 80s action stars getting old.
Underworld Awakenings. Wretched. How have they made four of these pieces of shit already? And J. Michael Stracynski wrote this one. Shame on him. For this and a hundred other things.

Re: What have you watched lately?
Finally got around to watching Goon. It was actually a decent movie. Not better than Slapshot, but still. It was based on Doug Smith, who played in the minor leagues for 10 years. Oh, and Alison Pill is kind of hot.
