X-Men, X-Men Origins, Wolverine, etc.

movies are cool. here is a place to talk about how cool they are. or maybe how much they suck, sometimes. like that fucking piece of shit 'mac and me'. worst fucking movie ever, a two-hour ad for fucking coca-cola.

And no Stan Lee cameo. If he should have had a cameo in any flick, an X-Men flick set in the 60's should be it.

I loved the film for the most part. Good story and a great cast, but sadly some character work on secondary characters gets sidelined in favor of the major characters.

SPOILERS HERE ON DOWN

Magneto - Fassbender overshadows everyone else and owns the film. The Nazi hunting scenes are very well done. Most of that had to be what they culled from the now aborted Magneto film, and what a film that could have been.

Xavier - McAvoy makes Xavier his own, much like Ewan McGregor did with Obi-Wan.

Mystique - Jennifer Lawrence brings a lot to the character, but it bothered me how close they made her and Xavier in this film, with absolutely no previous hint of a bond between the two in the previous films. It was good for this film, but feels way out of place in the saga as a whole.
And giggity.

Beast - They did a lot with Hank without much time, but I didn't feel that Hank felt like he NEEDED to take the serum. Just put some shoes on and boom, you're normal.

Angel, Havok, Darwin and Banshee - Yeah, they are there and we get a little screen time (mostly in training and the one bonding scene), but they get a minimum of character development, which is a shame.

Moira MacTaggert - Rose Byrne is a hot one, but the character is only a connector between Xavier and the CIA. The slight romantic angle falls flat.
And another giggity.

Sebastian Shaw - Kevin Bacon plays a great villain, but my mind kept going back to "Kevin Bacon. Magneto Helmet. Bacon. Helmet. Bacon Helmet!"

Emma Frost - So much of the attention has been put on how hot January Jones looks in the flick, which I agree, but I liked Moira and Raven better. As for the character, she suits her purpose...neverminding the fact that she was already in the Wolverine flick and a few years younger.

Riptide and Azazel -These two are walking special effects that get zero character development, which surprised me, considering that Azazel is Nightcrawler's pops (right?).

Easter Eggs - And there were a bunch.
Wolverine's cameo was pretty funny.
Rebecca Romijn was pretty cool, even for 2 seconds.
Storm was in Cerebro, as I'm sure there were others - The kid with glasses could have been Cyclops. There was a little girl that may have been Jean.
The mention of William Stryker.
The Xavier bald jokes were good.

SPOILERS

I think Beast could/should have been shown undergoing his secondary mutation - maybe showing mystique in one of their quiet moments that his body was starting to cover up with blue fur or something to suggest his appearance was going to become more extreme - which would have made it more important for him to want to cover it up... or they could have picked a more handsome kid to play Hank & made him a bit more vain, that would have supported his sudden desire to cover up the freakiness (which also felt to me like it came out of a left field a little bit).

I liked this movie overall...but I'm so tired of this reboot horseshit going on, it's WAY too soon for it. They could have done this movie as a prequel that fits with the first 2 Singer films, so I don't like that about it. I know X3 and Wolverine weren't that good but I didn't hate them like some people did...but still, those first 2 flix were cool and it would have been better to have a prequel in line with those. Then again, I suppose they do lots of reboots in the comics themselves so as a standalone movie, I did think it was pretty good.

But yeah, the Magneto: Nazi Hunter movie would be awesome to see. :)

Skeez - first of all what's up, bud? Hope you're doing better than well! - secondly, I believe this IS a prequel to the Singer X-Men and that it fits in with that universe. Rest easy, my Brown-loving friend.

I mentioned this on a different forum, but if you're a fanboy whining about continuity inconsistencies between the now FIVE films in this franchise, that ship set sail a LONNNNGGG time ago.

Consider the first films takes place in the "Near Future" according to the opening. Or as MST3K liked to refer to it "Next Sunday, A.D." In the next film, Stryker says that Logan was turned into Wolverine "16 years ago" which makes the Wolvie:Origins Film in the 1994 or later category, not the late 70s. And either way, First Class makes both Xavier and Mags in their 70s/80s for the Trilogy. And Cyclops is either in his mid-30s OR pushing 50 depending on the W:Origins timeline. So I think all mutants must have a secondary mutation that retards their aging.

It's best just to forget about it and enjoy each film on its own merits.

First Class is indeed a prequel, but Bryan Singer admitted there were certain things that don't mesh with the previous films, but they did attempt to keep the conflicts to a minimum.

Fox registered "Days of Future Past" as a film title. That's no guarantee that XM:FC2 will be about the time travel storyline. They could just be covering their bases. But still, cool.

just sounds like a ploy to make sure Marvel Studios can't do it, just in case the rights revert back to them due to a lag in production schedule.

I read somewhere that they have the rights to X-Men, FF, Daredevil etc in perpituity as long as they keep making films. And there's an obnoxious amount of "dormancy" time. I think the Daredevil and FF rights are about to lapse and it's been like 8 years? But since XM:FC just came out, they could NOT make an X-Men film until 2020 at least and still retain the property.

And Fox will never relinquish the rights back to Misney. They'll just pump out shitty films to retain the rights before giving them up.

Marvel made a shitty deal.

If the phrasing of the story is correct, the woman in the photo is playing Mariko.

Too bad. She looks just like Yukio.

Michael Vaughn has decided to not direct the X-Men First Class sequel.
Fox wants Bryan Singer to come back for the sequel.

Mark Millar, professional attention whore, paid me $200 just to mention his name in this post.

Bryan Singer is officially confirmed as Days of Future Past director.

But who gives a shit? Today DISNEY BOUGHT STAR WARS!

That trumps whatever news Fox released today. Other than the fact their Golden Goose just died and you won't hear the 20thCF Fanfare at the beginning of SW7. That'll be...weird.
