Ha ha! You're not too far wrong. I should take a picture of my room. The window is disappearing slowly as the stacks of book creep higher and higher.
I did just buy 10 drawer boxes last week, so that'll go a long ways towards getting things back under control.

I don't post pics of my house if I can help it because I seriously fear someone from one of those shows will surprise me at the door one day.
I've got more toys than I can display, more comics than I can store easily, more books than I can read, and a music collection (all on CD, even if it's just backups of the MP3s) that would take a year or more of continuous listening to get through (counting duplicate songs and such).

Re: Big score........
I really honestly did watch a couple of episodes just to see what kind things the doctors recommend to break the compulsive behaviors - they don't reveal much about that, just kinda make it common-sensey or something.... but the common thread is the people saying they're "collectors" and the doctors telling them "collectors" like to organize & share their stuff by showing it off (I'm guessing online or in real life both count). So that might be a sign you're crazy, Rico.

I'm sure Chux would 'show off' more of his stuff if he had the space for it. He's not suffering from hoarder mentality, he's suffering from 'Lackofus ManCaveii'

Yeah, I'm lucky that way. The computer room is a bit of a man cave, and our basement is unfinished so I've got bins of shit (neatly stacked and organized) everywhere. Fuck Star Wars and that stupid hypnotizing effect the little plastic men have on me. It's not right.

Re: Big score........
I need your honest opinion. I just won these two auctions on Ebay. They guy had "conservatively" graded the books at 4.0-5.5 on most of these books. But when I look at them using the "zoom" feature, they look pretty decent around the edges and corners and stuff. I broke my $1 each rule and ended up paying roughly $2 per issue. But it was the first appearance of Deathlok, and all the subsequent issues of the series. Did I make out? I feel like I'm getting excited for nothing, and the books will turn out to be closer to what the guy graded them, than to what they look like. What do you think?

Re: Big score........
They look like "fine" copies to me, likely graded them low just to appease any potential bitching from whoever gets them. Smart way to do business if you just want to let the books go hassle-free. I think you'll be pleased with them, barring any unforeseen water damage, cut out adds or missing pages...

Bah. This is the first appearance of the only Deathlok who matters.

Re: Big score........
But THAT Deathlok wouldn't exist without the first one. And 70s Deathlok is also the tits. Until they tried shoehorning him into the 90s Deathlok's book. All that Kelly/Manning horseshit made my head implode.anarky wrote:Bah. This is the first appearance of the only Deathlok who matters.

Re: Big score........
I know, I know. I just think the Collins Deathlok is an awesome idea who's currently suffering from 1990s backlash and, if history is any indication, will be revived with Sleepwalker and Danny Ketch in about three years when the 90s suddenly become cool again.
Really, Michael Collins and Danny Ketch were the right way to do legacy characters. Until, like you said, they tried to bring back the older versions as well. God damn, the early issues of both Deathlok and Ghost Rider are still fucking awesome.

Re: Big score........
Oh man, Ghost Rider #1 (the 90s Ketch version) is one of the best comics eveh. I don't get all this post-2000 masturbating about Johnny Blaze. Everybody is always, "yeah, Ketch is a cool Rider and all, but Blaze is the original. And without Blaze, Ketch wouldnt exist..." Yeah? Who gives a shit? what kind of rationale is that? Blaze is a fucking emo twat. Ketch's series lasted longer that Blazes and probably outsold his 5 to 1. It's like the Wally West/Barry Allen thing. Barry Allen is a boring asshat. Wally West is the superior Flash.

Wally is the Flash.
Danny is the Ghost Rider. (I know there's no "the." But there should be.)
Michael is Deathlok.
Steve is Captain America.
Bruce is the Hulk.
The other Bruce is the Batman.
Tim is Robin.
Dick is Nightwing.
Preston is Clayface.
Peter is Spider-Man.
Eddie is Venom.
[Classified] is Cobra Commander. (I still say he's Rex until told otherwise since that's the only cool new thing to come out of the movie.)
Anyone who says differently can suck it.

Re: Big score........
My Astonishing Tales arrived along with a mess of other auctions I won. Ironically, the guy that charged me the most on shipping for "expidited" hasn't arrived yet. I'm giving that fucker negative feedback for being a douche.
But anyway, I got a whole bunch of Green Lantern miniseries and oneshots that some guy was unloading, presumably because of the film. But note to ebay sellers. Don't end your auctions at 2:00 AM. I got a bunch of books for less than a buck apiece.
Green Lantern:Brightest Day Blackest Night. 2002. A Prestige book about Alan Scott and Solomon Grundy. Written by Steven T. Seagle, who I consider a bit of a douche writer.
GL/Superman: Legend of the Green Flame. Another Prestige oneshot. This was written by Niel Gaiman and has a cool backstory to it. Apparently then editor Mark Waid hired Gaiman to finish up the Action Weekly experiment from the late 80s which had gone over like a lead balloon with readers and DC alike. They were going back to a monthly Superman series with the book. but in between writing it and turning it in, they decided to shelve the book. And then promptly lost the manuscript for 12 years. Gaiman finally tracked down a photocopied version he had given to a comicshop owner who had given to some customer, and they finally published it many years later.
Green Lantern/Sentinel 3 issue mini. 1997. Kind of blah mini dealing with Alan Scott, Kyle and Jade. Nohing spectacular.
GL/Silver Surfer. 1995. Kyle and Norrin vs Thanos and Hal"parallax" Jordan. Other than being a Marvel/DC jam, nothing spectacular here either. it takes place before Hal "died".
GL: The New Corps 2 issue Prestige series. 1998. Written by Chuck Dixon. Why on earth this required the Prestige format, other than to bilk GL fans out of their cash, I do not know. Kyle attempts to start a new GL Corps and ends up fucking things up, so by the end he's all alone again. This could have easily just been two issues of the regular ongoing.
The two highlights of the purchase were:
Green Lantern:Evil's Might 3 issue Elseworld series. 2002. This was a damn fine series. Written by Tischman and Chaykin. With art by Marshall Rogers, it takes place in New York City during the Boss Tweed/Tammany Hall era. Kyle Rayner is a political cartoonist from the Irish part of town. hal Jordan is a police inspector who finds himself in the pocket of the bosses. And Alan Scott is the head of an irish gang running a protection racket. Kyle finds the Lantern/Ring in a pawn shop and uses it to fight city corruption. If you get a chance to read this, I highly recommend it. I don't know if it was ever collected as a Trade or not.
Green Lantern:Circle of Fire. 1998. A 2 issue bookend series, with five oneshots in between. This was a pretty good read. Early work by Brian K. Vaughan for DC, but the highlight is the first issue drawn by Norm Breyfogle. Featuring most of the Justice League. Each page was spectacular. if you can ever find the first issue in the dollar bins or whatever, or perhaps the Trade, pick it up. You'll be in for a treat.

Re: Big score........
The Comic shop across the river had a 3 for a $1 sale on Saturday. I was hoping they would've put more of their inventory in the sale. As it was, I got 47 books for $18.
Batman Chronicles 19
Batman:Dark Knight of the RoundTable 1
Batman Odyssey 3. This was supposed to be a 13 issue series that only lasted 5 issues. This was the last one I needed.

Bullseye: Greatest Hits 1, 2
Cable 5
Daredevil: Battlin' Jack 2
DCUniverse Online Legends 2, 4-6
Hercules Twilight of the Gods 3
Heroes for Hire 8. Dammit, I meant to get issue 7.
Her-Oes 2-4
Iron Man Armor Wars 3
Joker's Asylum II Killer Croc. I was missing two of these issues, amd I wasn't sure if this was oneof them. I haven't checked, so I'm still not sure.
Justice League of America 56
Kingpin 6, 7. The last two issues of the "ongoing" from 2004. Still need the first 5.
Marvel Comics 1. Reprint of the verrrry first Marvel Comic.
Marvel vs Dc 2

Punisher War Zone 5.
Punisher Holiday Special 3. These two Punisher issues leave me only 3 Punisher books to find. 2 of them are from the shitty FrankenCastle run.
Rogues oneshot from '97.
Superman 37.
Superman/batman 81, 82
Superman Save The Planet oneshot
Mann and Superman oneshot
Thor For Asgard 6

Ultimate Thor 1
Ultimate new Ultimates 3
Ultimate Spider-Man 12, 14
