Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
finally got to the store on tuesday and picked up the bare minimum of stuff from the past few weeks that i could afford
Atomic Robo: Deadly Art of Science #2
Invincible #76
The Walking Dead #80
Hellboy: The Sleeping and the Dead #1
there are a few BPRD books that have come out that i didn't get, and need Nemesis #4 and Incognito 2 #2, but there were plenty of them still on the shelves. the above are probably the four top books of all time on my pull list at this point. i'm ashamed to admit i have a lot to catch up on with spidey - three times a month seemed awesome at the time, but it's just too much.

The other day I also bought a short box so I could put a bunch of my Punisher comics together, mostly the stuff since Ennis' Marvel Knights run.
It was too short.
By a lot.

I also need to invest in some boxes. My last six months of books are getting stacked in no discernible order on top of what boxes I do have. I was hoping to hold out until FCBD when the LCS sells their drawer boxes for cheap (at least they did last year)but at the rate I buy cheap back issues that might not be an option.

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
17 books this week. 8 of which were the DC Covers.
Amazing Spidey 652. So, Peter's new girlfriend, Carlie, wants to set up her only real friend, Spider-Man, with Peter's best friend, his ex, Mary Jane. Because Carlie doesn't know Peter IS Spider-Man. Hilarity will ensue. This book is so awesome. And then Spider-Slayers attack Andru AirForce Base, and Spider has to save John Jameson Jr (again!). And then in a wacky back up tale, Spider-Man fights the new PowerMan and SERIOUSLY?! THE D-list villain The Looter shows up. I was laughing my ass off. This book is win again after years of suck. I'm still pissed about the retcon thing, but barring an epic intervention by Stan Lee or somebody, thats not going away.
Avengers Academy 8. Tigra's assault by the Hood becomes a viral video online. And three Academy kids decide to go 'eye for an eye' on the Hood. Which goes against what being an Avenger is all about, so they get expelled. Now, if your primary reason for keeping these kids in the Academy is to prevent them frombecoming Super Villains, kivcking them out might not be the best plan. But this book remains good fun and one of Marvel's better series. (PS I thought the Slug had been killed.)
Batman 706. A DC Cover featuring Batman. Riddler and his daughter, Enigma beat up Batman. Robin steps into save him and notices girls. Then Catgirl helps Batman track down some clues and gets ambushed by the bad guys.
Batman:Streets of Gotham 19.A DC Cover featuring the Joker. Hush has some plans and Batman makes out with Catwoman. This book is ending in two issues.
Brightest Day 18. Hawkman and Woman finally FINALLY break their centuries old curse of death and ressurection. So what does the White Ring do? Disintegrates them into white dust. And right before they're about to get nekked and bone. That's just cold, man.
GIJoe Cobra 12. A cover homage to John Byrne's Alpha Flight 12(the famous book where Guardian died) makes the same promise "And One Shall surely Die!" On the Cover you have Serpentor, Xamot, Tomax, Baroness, Cobra Commander, Big Boa, and Chuckles in cross hairs. And I'm not gonna reveal who does die in this issue, suffice to say it was balls rocking mutherfucking Two Page Spread of AWESOME. "Yo Joe." has never been uttered in such a fantastically awesome manner before. Seriously, this has got to be the most badass Joe issue ever.
Green Lantern Corps 56. A DC Cover featuring Sinestro. Sinestro and his Corps show up to beat Qwardian ass, and the GLs can't interfere unless they want to blow their truce with the Sinestro Corps. Unless they don't use their rings. Which leads to a lot of punching in the face.
Invincible Iron Man 500. The renumbering commences as Iron Man goes Legacy with issue 500. Tony enlists the aid of Peter Parker (whom he doesn't know is Spider-Man) to figure out why he was building a Doomsday device before he wiped his memory. Also a preview of Iron Man2.0 (which just a new War Machine series with a more marketable name) and a cover montage of all 500 issues with all the variants.
JLA 53. Another DC Cover. The JLA concludes a big four issue story battling the Crime Syndicate of America. I haven't been following this series because James Robinson is a putz.
Legion of Super Heroes 9.Another DC Cover. Legion. Don't know nothing except they're from the 31st century and they've got like 500 members.
Power Girl 20. A DC Cover. Power Girl fights Professor Ivo who's been cloning Kryptonians at Max Lord's request. (Damn, Max Lord is everywhere in DC now.) Then he brainwashes Pwer Girl into going after the JLI over in Gen Lost (see last weeks Justice League Gen Lost issue).
Supergirl 60. A DC Cover. Some kid invents an app that lets people GPS track Superheroes when they see them via their celphone cameras and post it in realtime on the web. So that villains can converge on them and beat them up.
Thor 619. Odin is back. And he's pissed. he was quite happy being dead and all that. Kid Loki steals a car. And Balder and Tyr apparently die attacking the new baddies all by themselves. I just read that in two months, Thor is getting renumber oned, and this book(again) gets called Journey Into Mystery(for the thrid time). What, does Thor have a movie coming out or something?
Wolverine/Jubilee 1. ha ha! Jubilee is a VAMPIRE! That's like, permanent ongoing continuity. Anyway, Phil Noto is doing the art and I like him. Plus Marvel decided to make it a $2.99 bookand I'm giving feedback with my money. Less $3.99 and more $2.99.
X-Factor 214. Darwin wanders into the desert, eats some Cactus shrooms and has a death vision. Where he fights Rahne's unborn child when he's all grown up. Bizarre.
X-Men Legacy 244. Sort of a prequel to the Age of X crossover starting next month. But its a crossover so steeped in mystery they can't adequately explain how this sets it up other than to say "ooh! Impending shadow and darkness descends!" But Rogue absorbs several mutant talents at once and kicks ass again. Which is always gratifying. its unfortunate they finally developed her into an interesting character and hardly anybody reads the book so they don't know.
Young Justice 0. So I had 17 books this week instead of 16 because I picked this up last minute. Its based on the new cartoon which I can't watch not having cable and all. Apparently they just hodgepodged several eras of continuity into one. Dick is Robin, Wally is Kid Flash, but Connor is Superboy (and he's not even Connor at this point, just Superboy, newly minted from his cloning pod at Cadmus). And Aqualad based on the brand new version introduced months ago. Nothing to do with Garth. there's also an Arrowette on the cover, but she doesn't show up in the bookat all, so I don't know if its the female Speedy Mia Dearden with a different name, or if its actually Arrowette from the original Young Justice, or if its a brand new character like Olivia Queen or something.
Amazing Spidey 652. So, Peter's new girlfriend, Carlie, wants to set up her only real friend, Spider-Man, with Peter's best friend, his ex, Mary Jane. Because Carlie doesn't know Peter IS Spider-Man. Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
The new "Arrowette" is actually called Artemis. She hasn't appeared yet. The show is quite good so far (only one two-parter has aired, and is re-airing this week.) No idea how they're going to do that, as Green Arrow's sidekick in the first episode is Speedy, who bails on the others before they go to investigate Cadmus.
Don't spoil me, but I'm now dying to know who died in Cobra. Chuckles would be a possibility, since this is the end of his arc supposedly. Big Boa is disposable as hell. Yet I get the feeling it's not one of them; given the way the twins have been handled, I wonder if one of them. Obviously it's not going to be Cobra Commander or Baroness, unless Hasbro gave them full control and had Chuckles kill Cobra Commander and, now insane, try to replace him. I doubt it; though that would seriously limit the knowledge of the high command of Cobra all of a sudden and put the two sides on more equal footing.

I just looked on Diamond's Weekly Release list, and it wasn't on there. Nor was it on next week's advance list. So Whew. It must've got pushed.

weird... it was supposed to be out this week. guess not, it's not on midtown comics' list, either. no post about it on www.atomic-robo.com either. there IS a post about martin luther king, jr. day and pubes, however.

Thought the Riddler was still a good guy, being a detective and shit.Rollo Tomassi wrote:Batman 706. A DC Cover featuring Batman. Riddler and his daughter, Enigma beat up Batman.
Just 3 for me this week:
The Boys #50 - The early days of The Boys continues to be revealed. Includes a couple of interviews (2010 & 2004) with Ennis, where he states The Boys will end with issue #70, so 20 + change (he mentions a few minis) to go. As much as I like the series, I have a feeling this is going to read so much better once its completed.
Scarlett #4 - "This is the story of a young woman whose life was destroyed by violence and corruption. This is the story of how she has chosen to fight back." I wish Bendis & Maleev were this good on Daredevil, not that their DD was bad (far from it), but this story is great.
Morning Glories #6 - Still waiting on motherfucking issue #1. I'm beginning to doubt my LCS will ever get the ones he ordered. I may have to search elsewhere within driving distance.

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
Batman issues 698 and 699 had the Riddler go bad again because of some gunshot trauma or something. I was dissapointed because the 'new' Riddler was an interesting character. And now Tony Daniel always draws him with this disconcerting grimace on his face all the time. Its creepy.
Morning Glories 1 goes for like $50 on ebay. They're on like their sixth printing already. So your LCS guy most likely feigned getting them in and turned a tidy profit online. I mean he can get $3 from you or 20x that on ebay. Methinks you got screwed.

Nah, I don't think he screwed me. He's been good to me over the years. Besides, everything like that, which is typically the incentive covers, he puts on ebay and puts the link in the weekly emails.
I was just a bit late trying to get a copy.
He says he ordered some of the later printings ages ago, but they haven't been shipped for some reason. I don't care what printing it is, I just want to read the damn thing.

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
i actually bought comics this week!
savage dragon #168
amazing spider-man #651
amazing spider-man #652
BPRD hell on earth: gods #1
nemesis #4
incognito: bad influences #2
scarlet #4
december was such a bad month for getting to the store that i'm actually missing quite a few issues of ASM and midtown sold out of them. my subscription ended and we didn't have the dough to re-up, so i was picking them up at the store. i'm going to have to check if my old store on long island has any of them. i haven't renewed any of my subs - new avengers, iron man, daredevil, etc. i also need to pick up the last issue of the previous BPRD storyline, scarlet #3, jack of fables #49 and a slew of savage dragon issues.
i have to confess, savage dragon isn't as fun as it used to be. i dug the game-changer storyline where he ended up on a parallel earth that was post-apoc, and then he helped fix it so it was pretty much back to status quo, but now he's remembered who he was before he was found in that burning field (which was supposedly never going to come to light in the main title and only told in the 10th anniversary hardcover that never happened, so he published it as a one-shot for people who wanted to know, but other fans that didn't want to know would never need to, but now the cat's out of the bag) and it's like civil war/back in black/one more day for dragon - there's nowhere to go but either a complete ret-con, or his son takes over the title. however, there hasn't been enough character development for his son to be the mainliner (even though he's been in the books for like 7 years or something). idk.

Re: So, What comics did you buy this week?
I had a big week with 27 books. Spent almost $80. Seven were DC white covers.
Avengers 9. Iron Man and the Illuminati explain and justify the Illuminati to the assembled Avengers teams (all of them, Mighty, New and Secret). it doesn't go well. To say Steve Rogers is DISPLEASED with them, is an understatement. Also, we flashback to how The Hood escaped from prison and found the first gem. (Stupid Inhumans)
New Avengers 8. Luke and Jessica discuss whether she should suit up and be an Avenger fulltime. While a waitress waits impatiently to take their order. Acuna's art of the waitress during long Bendis dialogue scenes is hilariously understated.
Secret Avengers 9. The good guys exchange Shang-Chi for Sharon Carter. Moon Knight disguises himself in baddie armor and infiltrates the badguy headquarters.
Captain America 614. Bucky's trial continues. Red Skull's daughter kidnaps Falcon and Black Widow( extremely easily, too, I might add) and Bucky does something completely idiotic and breaks out of jail to stop her. What a maroon.
Chaos War 5. An epic series ends with a deus ex machina. Herc punches the Omniverse destroying ChaosKing into a pocket dimension. Then uses his omnipotent God powers to restore everything back to normal. And Alpha Flight remains alive, presumably to make another ongoing series boring as hell.
Chaos War:X-Men 2. In a contrived, ultimately irrelevant Claremont tale, Thunderbird merges with his Apache god namesake and blows up some Chaos King flunkie never hesrd from before or since. Then they all die again.
Fantastic Four 587. Marketing Hype aside, Hickman is doing wonderful things with this book, and this issue was no exception. I actually got choked up at the end when Johnny and Ben have their final moments.
GIJoe ARAH 162. Oh man! Zartan calling Cobra Commander and asking to have Chocolate donuts and Grape Soda delivered to the Dreadnok Garage where they are rebuilding the ThunderMachine! I LOVE this book! Also, most of the action takes place in Broca Beach, which is like the Jersey Shore of secret Cobra towns. Awesome Hama fun continues.
Green Arrow 8. I only got this for the excellent Cascioli cover. the book has Green Arrow fighting Etrigan in his new forest.
Incredible Hulks 621. Haven't picked up a Hulk book at full price in two years, but this had a cool Paguluyan cover so I figured what the hey. Mostly splash pages of Hulk fighting all the Greek Gods in the aftermath of the Chaos War. Pretty, but not worth $4.
Justice League Gen Lost 18. DC Cover featuring Capt. Atom. Power Girl fights the JLI, who she thinks is really the JLA gone bad. Until they hit her with hypersonics to break her out of Max Lord's hypnosis. Then she joins the team. It's lookin' old school JLI more and more every day.
Justice Society America 47. White DC Cover. So, some badguy (I've no idea, calls himself Dr. Chaos. And I don't think in an ironic way.) fights with Mr. Terrific whom he has made stupid. Black Lightning's daughter is dead, and Dr. Fate has saved her soul so they can repair her body. This book has gone downhill since Johns left.
Magneto Oneshot. Picked this up not realizing it was a First Class related series. or that it was drawn by Howard Chaykin, who I can't stand. I guess it's sort of could be quasi set in the regular Marvel U since its a flashback tale to how Mags got his red underoos. but really, Chaykin art. I made a poor choice.
Namor 6. Namor's version of hell is a desert where all his failures attack him as scorpions with people's heads.
New Mutants 21. Zeb Wells run comes to an end and brilliantly wraps all the plot threads he started in issue one with Legion, Magik, Karma, and the rest. I was underwhelmed at the beginning of the series, but seeing it all come together, I am impressed. Well done, Mr. Wells.
Punisher:In the Blood 3. Not only is Frank's wife back. And a villain. But she's also now a trampy slut who likes Jigsaw. You may ask why the fuck I'm still plunking down good cash for this tripe. I'm asking myself the same question.
Action Comics 897. A White DC Cover featuring Lex Luthor. Lex and Joker face off in an Arkham interrogation room. Paul Cornell gives both ubervillains an off kilter freshness in their mental tete-a-tete.
Teen Titans 91. A White DC cover. The Titans defeat the bad guys. Damian develops a crush on Ravager (as I knew he would) and Superboy and WonderGirl break up.
Thunderbolts 152. Hyperion joins the team and they go to Japan and fight big monsters. I'm not kidding. Actually a fun diversion. Not spectacular, but fun.
Wonder Woman 606. A white DC cover. Phil Hester turns the impending supertanker disaster that was JMS' run back on course. Diana sees Phillipus killed by an antlered demigod, so she rips his horns off and impales the sonofabith with his own horns. Wicked.
Uncanny X-Force 4. The team finally comes face to face with the child Apocalypse. Archangel fights his own demons and succeeds in not giving into rage and killing the little boy. Everybody is proud of him. But then Fantomex just shoots the little fuck in the face anyway. Ha.
Uncanny X-men 532. All the X-men continue to be sick. And Sebastian Shaw is pissed he got thrown out of an airplane.
X-23 5. Mr. Sinister's clone, Miss Sinister proved to be too much of a distraction because of what she was wearing the entire issue. A black bustier cross stitched up the front barely covering her ample bosom. And a short black skirt. So short that if a woman wore it in real life her vag lips would be hanging out the bottom. Who dresses like that? And who has conversations with a person wearing that without saying "I'm sorry, can you go put on a robe or something before explaining your diabolical cloning experiment? Thanks. Whore."
Age of X:Alpha Oneshot. The beginning of the new Alternate Reality X-men crossover. Explains why Wolverine is dead, gives Cyclops a kickass new origin and codename (Basilisk!). I like Mike Carey's writing on X-Men Legacy better than any other current X-book. And this crossover is his brainchild, so I'm looking forward to it.
Zatanna 9. Only got it for the white DC Cover. Zatanna fights an evil ventriloquest dummy or something. Then flashes back to when she was a kid and defeated some guy with her braces. I'm not kidding.
