I dunno if DB was joking, but that actually would be a pretty clever idea. It'd have to be a set, sold as an exclusive to an online retail or at a convention. I don't think you could get away with more than four or five characters per movie. If nothing else, it could be a cool convention exclusive with enough appeal to sell to geeks without pissing off those who missed out.

No, I wasn't joking. Something like that would get me to buy something Star Wars again.
I know I'm not the only one. It would be a lot of damn fun. There are plenty of us that love those real vintage figures.

I'm thinking 30 figures, with 6 waves of 5 figures (2 waves for each flick):
TPM: Anakin, Jar Jar, Darth Maul, Battle Droid, Obi-Wan, Qui-gon, Queen Amidala, Threepio ("naked"), Yoda (retooled), Nute Gunray.
AOTC: Obi-Wan, Anakin, Padme (Geonosis), Threepio (Gray), Clonetrooper, Jango (Boba retool/repaint), Dooku, Artoo (retool), Super Battle Droid, lil Boba.
ROTS: Anakin, Obi-Wan, Padme (preggers), Darth Sidious, Mace Windu, Clonetrooper (slight retool of AOTC version), Chewbacca (retool), Threepio (gold-retool), Darth Vader (retool), Grievous.


I also want side-scrolling Super NES versions of the Prequels.

I didn't say they'd made this costume before for Sidious; I have most of the Sidiouses (Sidiii?) and know he's not been made in this outfit. (Even if I didn't, the amount of requests for this version over the past five years would be enough to clue me in.) It's just that, in terms of the packaging only, he needs a subtitle for consistency's sake. To someone who's not been paying attention, it seems like they're claiming this is the first Sidious figure, or at least the first carded one, the way the back card design is.

Since the figure wasn't released before, and showing another Darth Sidious figure wouldn't be accurate, adding ": Senate Duel" would be the only solution to fix it without overhauling the whole line. I'll just consider it a minor oversight.

Of course, showing only the vintage cards for all the prequel figures would be the best solution. I think we all agree that some cards, especially the ROTS and AOTC ones, look like ass.

Oh, okay. I see now. And I kind of agree.

As for putting vintage-style prequel characters in the line - I don't think their 1995 experiment to sell reproductions of Luke, Vader, Chewie, and whoever else in that four-pack went too well. Since Boba is basically a throwback to the most well-known unproduced item in the line, it makes sense as a one-off. They've claimed they have no plans to do any more, and I think they've addressed the issue of making more vintage-styled figures, saying most fans would rather see tooling dollars go toward stuff in the current aesthetic anyway.

Some of those customs look pretty cool, but I wouldn't want to buy any of them. If you really wanted to, I'm sure you could do it up like that guy and customize your own. (But use a different head for Anakin, since that thing is fucking ugly. )

I always figured those didn't do well since anyone who'd want them probably had them already. "New" vintage figures, done on a truly small scale, might go over better.

The good news is that my mail away Boba Fett showed up. The bad news is that the card is bent up. Maybe later I'll look through my stuff to see if I have more proof of purchases. If I do, I might open this one and order a 2nd.

My wife told me that Build-A-Bear Workshop is getting Star Wars bears.

I started cleaning out the garage in earnest today. We've got all sorts of Christmas presents already, with all the old crap I had. I've got a ton of unopened Galactic Heroes, 12" figures, and other kiddie stuff like Jedi Force--stuff that I couldn't even get the original retail cost back on. I gave her a few that had packages that were too dusty to clean off, and she's having fun right now with JF Chewie, two GH Stormtroopers, and two Spider-Man Action Heroes.

I didn't realize how much stuff I bought just because it was on clearance, only to have it rot in the garage, taking up space and making the garage unusable. Sad, really.

Nice. I will say, as a warning, due to the spindly nature of the character, his legs are sort of vaguely rubbery. It's most noticeable when posing him, and moving the knees, but it hasn't affected the ability of the 2008 one or this new one (which, granted, I've only had for two days) to stand. But they're not nearly as bad as someone elsewhere has been suggesting over and over. (It's way better than the Clone Wars Grievous, at least.) The only other complaint I can think of is that the arms look perhaps too wide, but that's obviously an artifact of their ability to split in half. And he doesn't have foot pegs, but whatever. I think you'll be pleased, as it really does display quite well otherwise.

In other news, Jabba is fantastic as well. I got the Rise of Boba Fett set today, and I haven't had too much time to mess with it, but the Slave I is pretty awesome.

I got an idea for what Hasbro should do: release every figure since 1995, including shit like Monkey-Faced Leia or Battle R5-D4 or Artoo on a String, on vintage cards. Charge $10 for them. Watch in amusement as collectors simultaneously snatch them all up and bitch about them. Want to make it even more fun, add in three different foil applications, and maybe even silver figures.

I remember you guys explaining that to me a while back. If they ever put out another OT Y-Wing, I might buy it. Actually, I know exactly what would happen: I wouldn't like the original price and wait for it to go on clearance. If it is sold at Target, I'd end up getting it for a decent price. If it is only sold at TRU or Walmart, I'd wait and wait and never get it.

It is funny because it is true. People are stupid. Someone needs to start a grass-roots campaign for that Monkey Leia. Have the primary release on a Vintage card and a chase on the silver POTF2 card.
