I could never finish that game. Or the third Mario for that matter. That ending looks pretty anticlimactic, though. I forgot it was just a dream sequence, which is pretty fucking gay.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

Seriously? I whooped it repeatedly as a kid, then downloaded it for the Wii and whooped it in one try. I can't do it without warps anymore... yet. Super Mario 3, different story. That one was so long I always got bored.
By the way, it was a dream sequence since it wasn't really Super Mario 2. The first game was the same in Japan and the US. The second was released in Japan first, and was judged to be way too hard. The mechanics and graphics were almost the same as the first, but Mario and Luigi had slightly different abilities (I think Luigi jumped higher and Mario was faster). So they took an existing Japanese game, stuck the Mario characters in it, and released it here as Super Mario 2. Super Mario 3 was Super Mario 4 in Japan. Oddly, later games (like Mario Party) make reference to the American #2 in Japan despite the game not existing there.
The original Super Mario 2 is available on the Wii, but I've not downloaded it yet.

That's interesting about the story; I had no idea.
It's not that the game was difficult per se, but every time I play through it, it takes way too long. I'm not really enthused about playing video games for like eight hours straight.

Unless I'm mistaking it for another Super Mario 2, the original SM2 was released in the US for the Super NES when they released Super Mario All-Stars which had Super Mario Bros 1, 2, 3 and Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels.
The Lost Levels was basically more of SM1, just way harder.

That's what I've read, and I remember playing All-Stars a long, long time ago, but don't remember those levels.Diabolical wrote:Unless I'm mistaking it for another Super Mario 2, the original SM2 was released in the US for the Super NES when they released Super Mario All-Stars which had Super Mario Bros 1, 2, 3 and Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels.

You're right; it was "The Lost Levels" on that game.

I'm going through Super Mario World on SNES right now for the first time in about 15 years. The ability to save your progress makes this one fine to work on, but trying to sit there and play SM3 on Wii just isn't working out.

About 4 months ago a guy I work with and myself beat the entire game in just one work shift (it was a slooooooow night). It's still a bad ass game.jjreason wrote:I'm going through Super Mario World on SNES right now for the first time in about 15 years. Re: fuck yeah!
Most of the people I knew at the time had a Sega instead of SNES, so I pretty much missed everything from that era by Nintendo. But through the miracle of computers, I have a CD that contains a SNES emulator and a bunch of ROMs. This one is probably on there, so I'll have to give it a try...if I can find that CD.

I know I never beat that shit. I too was a man of the Genesis back in those days, so playing SNES was a rare occasion for me. I'll keep plugging away, but it can be frustrating as fuck.Slicker wrote:About 4 months ago a guy I work with and myself beat the entire game in just one work shift (it was a slooooooow night).
